I'd have to respectfully disagree, though I can see how one might dislike this redesign, and prefer either something more faithful to the original, or a different alternative. What are your thoughts? Should it be more faithful, less faithful?
@@Audio-Man Rather more, I would say. The original also had the top part more pronounced so to speak. This one looks like a dress, being wider at the hips, I also dislike those narrow sleeves.
Probably will sound stupid, but I don't want to play as a water mage in this game. The robe for me is quite a symbolic thing, and this one is just awful.
I agree that it looks bad or at least very weird. In my opinion they are too flexible, I would never imagine original ones stretch like that (yes I know that if you pull out your mele weapon in the any robe it streches but I thinks that is more of a compromise for gameplay, I wouldn't like not being able to use a sword just because I am wearing a robe) And the sleaves are too thin, didn't the mages put their hands into their sleaves, how would they even go about doing that now if they don't have space for that.
You missed the most important change (7:03). The King HAS to give them everything they WANT. This used to include women for their amusement. Something that isn´t necessary for mere survival (needs met). Is this a sign, that the developers have taken a soft approach? A woke approach?
Thats nowhere near being the "most important change". This is reading too deep into the narrator's words, even for a video called "Overanalyzing gothic remake". And even if that was the case and the king only sent them what they "needed", it wouldnt make it woke. The word "woke" has lost all meaning at this point. The game would be woke if it agressively pushed progressive values that were out of place/did not fit into the universe, ruining immersion. The game would have gone "woke" if Diego started preaching about gender issues and gorn was a woman, or other similar goofy changes, not changing this tiny detail dawg. By these absurd standards, the original gothic 1 was woke because it had Thorus, a person of color, in a position of power. Or the characters were pushing feminization of men, because they had long hair, instead of everyone looking like Kratos. Lets keep the woke paranoia for ubisoft
@@jtest6670 "The game would be woke if it agressively pushed progressive values that were out of place/did not fit into the universe, ruining immersion." No, not necessarily.
Thank you for the analysis, Audio-Man! I lost faith in the remake a long time ago, and after watching new gameplay footage, I am even more convinced that the developers simply do not grasp what Gothic is. The main problem with it, as you already pointed out, is that everything that made G1 unique and memorable now looks so fucking generic. It doesn't feel like Gothic at all. In one of your previous videos, you attempted to explain to them that they shouldn't compromise the realistic worldbuilding of G1 by transforming common animals into monsters. But instead, they transformed every creature into something demonic-looking with red glowing eyes. It's so fucking lame, man! Seriously, I haven't liked any of the redesigns they've shown us thus far. It also seems that they completely ruined the combat system, which was another feature that set G1, and especially G2, apart from other RPGs at the time. Was it so hard for them to just use what already existed and worked perfectly while only improving its animations? Well, I'm sure many people will gladly deceive themselves and eat this pile of shit only because of a Gothic name on it, but I'm not going to buy it. It looks very unpromising, and it's already clear that this is not a remake that we, die-hard fans of G1 and G2, were anticipating.
The world design or rather redesign is very good IMHO, but in some cases is overdone. (Just as you mentioned in the video) But based on the current footage the fighting system and general animation is very lacking.
Great video!! I share your sentiment that a lot of the redesigns seem to opt to go for very generic / well established designs. Especially the orcs and how they are designing the orc town reminds me a lot of Orc Settlements in World of Warcraft. Even down to the desert like plant life :/ The infusion of catholic imagery they seem to be adding to the fire mages is also very confusing to me. There is also another weird thing going on with monster desings where they seem to get rid of aspects that made it easier to identify the difference between various animals. For example the wolfs being brownish in the original made it very easy to spot the difference to Wargs. But now the redesign wolfs are black apparently, making it easier to mix them up I would think. Same for the scavenger redesign looking a lot closer to snapper right now.
@@Audio-Man the depiction in the window is not of Jesus, but of some Saint. But I agree if there is no meaningful twist, no thank you - and this is coming from a Christian 🙂
To me, this remake culture will only produce generic, derivative garbage for the sake of cheap profit. Every single fantasy setting will be butchered to look like a mass appealing, BS, D&D ripoff. At least this isn't as bad as the tragedy that was the american Demon's Souls remake.

My bad, forgot to put the name in the video itself, it's "The Butcher's Circus Lobby" from Darkest Dungeon's soundtrack.

There's a difference between a cross on a rune as a symbol of holiness and straight up putting Jesus in Gothic, imo
