- May the 4th be with you! Watch the trailer for my newest edit: STAR WARS: THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY - THE FINAL CUT.
AVAILABLE NOW: • Every Change in 'Star ...
"THE FINAL CUT" sets out to create the ultimate STAR WARS viewing experience by combining the best aspects of both the "Special Editions" and the Theatrical versions of each film in the acclaimed ORIGINAL TRILOGY. Controversial changes such as Greedo shooting first, Vader yelling "nooo!", distracting CGI additions, and many others have been removed and restored to their original THEATRICAL VERSIONS - while beneficial changes such as updated visual effects, added dialogue, and extended scenes have all been retained from the newer "SPECIAL EDITION" releases. Other subtle new enhancements have been added that are not present in any officially released version.
Please enjoy this first look at the never-before-seen cut of the Star Wars Original Trilogy, remastered in 4K Ultra-HD - coming May 25th (the original 'Star Wars Day').

1:30 You Aged up Hayden! What an awesome compromise!
Thank you!!! That's what I was hoping! :)
@@TheVarietyGuy Do you have Discord? I'd love to bend your ear!
I like the older Anakin you see underneath the helmet, he was even in the 97 special edition
@@humanice2 Sebastian Shaw is still the unmasked Vader in 'The Final Cut', but the actor was 78 years old - 9 years older than even the already old looking Obi-Wan, Alec Guinness. He was old enough to be Luke's grandfather. Anakin was canonically only 45 when he died, and his slightly different appearance from in the suit can be explained by his severe injuries and dark side degradation, while his Force Ghost portrays his redeemed and healed middle-aged self.
@@TheVarietyGuy I'm really moved to be able to see this work of passion in this lifespan . I always used to scratch my head at the young Hayden Christensen force ghost thing-it felt kinda random and lazy. Thanks a lot for fixing it.
To all those that say Han shot first, please stop; Han is the ONLY one that shot!! Thank you for restoring this!!!
*approving clap from the 6th row*
I prefer if Greedo pulled out his blaster first but Han still shot first, to show how prepared Han can be. He’s dealt with this stuff before.
Nah man, it’s about about Greedo saying “maclunky” and Han’s head being clicked and dragged out of the way
Han shot last.
@@brewmaster2912 I don't hate this, but Greedo had Han at gunpoint during the whole scene.
I feel like every Star Wars fan has made a mental note of what changes they’d include and exclude in their own edit. Fun concept to actually see it put together
Agreed. As much as I like so many of the edits, it's made it so it's hard to find an edit all fans like universally. But it's fun to see what people can come up with, this one looks fantastic.
I'm a big fan of the edits to Cloud City in Empire, the digital set extensions that open everything up and show more of the space station, but I don't like how inconsistent it is. Like there was a special edition change to the promenade that added a large window showing the exterior as they fall into Vader's trap - one shot later and it's the original glass wall again. Hopefully this editor noticed that stuff.
Literally all I’d do with ANH is take the 2011 DVD re-release (the version of the film I grew up with), include most of the deleted scenes, keep in the scene with CGI Jabba because it bothers OT purists, then purposefully edit in the “Maclunkey” version of the cantina scene to spite people who say Han shot first. Also to bother OT purists because those guys are really sensitive and fun to pick on. 😁
You had me at “Bring my shuttle” 👏
"Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival. I will be leaving my current location on cloud city and moving to my star destroyer, which is a space ship in space. So in a few minutes, if anyone is confused about the details of my location, now you know how I got to my star destroyer and why I'm not at cloud city anymore."
@@niles6159 😂
@@niles6159, hey, man. If we get to see some more shots of Darth Vader, I'm all for it.
@@niles6159 Exactly! Even as a kid I knew what he wanted the shuttle for - it wasn't exactly rocket science. Plus... he originally sounded PISSED!
Yes!
That's the first time in ages I've watched a Star Wars trailer that: 1.) has raised the hairs on my neck with excitement, and 2.) made me think "I'd buy that."
Why there was nothing speical about this
@@dj2bklyn
I'm both terribly sad and extremely happy at the same time. Like fondly remembering a long passed friend.
@@dj2bklynThere’s nothing special about anything Disney’s done. I’d bet you’d be frothing at the mouth for that slop lol But you’ll say you don’t like Disney stuff either
Lucas didn’t like people mistaking the “cold gunslinger” depiction that people assumed he was going for. It’s the reason why he kept tweaking the shot many times to get the point across that Hand isn’t a cold blooded killer.
"coming May 25th (the original 'Star Wars Day')"
The Force is strong with this one.
I CANNOT wait
I love the 90s/00s vibe of the trailer. You really got me excited! It reminded me of when I rented a Star Wars dvd for the first time.
Thank you!! I actually literally modeled the trailer after the original Phantom Menace 1999 trailer, and the Special Edition re-release 1997 trailer! 😁
@@TheVarietyGuyWho is the narrator?
@@TheVarietyGuy Yeah, the narrative voice feels like a '90s trailer again!
The Star Wars original trilogy.....At last, we meet again for the first time for the last time.
I noticed that too. I wondered if it was on purpose, but probably not.
You should know one thing. I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
@@MykeLewisMusic"......so what does that make us?"
Now this is Star Wars. You play this in theaters and audiences will go bananas. The trailer narrator brings excitement back to these old movies and respects the fans who want to love Star Wars again.
How are you making me excited to see something I’ve seen a million times 😂
😎
Because you've seen it a million times. It's called “familiarity”.
I love how this mirrors the 1997 Special Edition trailers. Goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Every. Single. Time.
I always wanted to see someone make a fan edit of the original trilogy that kept most of the special editions but still maintains the Theatrical cuts. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true 😊.
Yah
Sounds like this does not keep the theatrical cuts though, as they say they’ve kept the extended scenes from newer versions.
@@closebenThey use footage from the theatrical release. I think its an attempt to preserve the best qualities from all editions and to cut out tbe unnecessary/destructive additions. For example, its absolutely necessary for the appearances of Jabba, Palpatine, and any other recurring characters to be consistent and that is nothing but an improvement. But changes made that dont look good or are negatively effecting the story/consistency are probably getting cut.
I see a proper and respectful Star Wars fan-edit, I press like!
At the end they had the chance to quote Lonestar! "For the first time for the last time!" They had to be thinking that lol
Finally the version I've always dreamed of - a mix of the old and the few GOOD changes.

Man, I love all the references to various past trailers in this. The "One Last Time" trailer, the Special Edition trailer, and at least one other I can't think of right now.
The beginning is inspired by the original Episode I: The Phantom Menace trailer!
@@TheVarietyGuy That's the one! I used to see the "One Last Time" trailer constantly on my friends' Trilogy tapes. Always seemed a bit weird that they were trying to sell him the product we were already watching.
Nice! I always thought showing the planet celebrations nicely made all 6 films feel like a single story even more. Actually the main reason I held off on getting any fan edits. I appreciate you acknowledging that some of the spec edition changes have value
Changing Anakins force ghost is SO needed. Hayden looks so creepy in the official version!

As a 54 year old, this....just this hits me again, giving that specific feeling we had back in '77 and the years after....
I've learned to just stick with these 3 episodes only, before the CGI overload and Disney.....
This stuff is awesome! ❤ No red lines crossed.
Same here.
Hey I'm one of the cool young people that doesn't like Disney, because most things they make are cash-grabs
Just finished watching the first of these edits, "A New Hope". These are excellent editions!
They're a perfect middle ground between the upscaling and necessary audio and visual corrections, as well as some nice special edition effects, but with the right restorations from the original release. It was also rewarding watching this with my gf who hadn't seen the original movies and was captivated by this one.
I'm very excited to continue with the following two films, definitely anticipating these as my preferred version of the original trilogy. Thank you for your hard work on this, as well as providing easy access for us to watch them!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it, and am so glad you enjoyed!
Now put it on VHS and DVD and it'll be the most peak OT release ever.
Why? The CBS/FOX VHS release is easy and inexpensive to obtain online.
@@mickeyconnor830 Because they arent this version lmfao
Too bad it's prohibitively expensive to press it on laserdisc these days.
Laserdisc! Laserdisc!
just get an adapter to a CRT TV and you could basically do that, or burn it to a dvd and do the same with a dvd player
the best part of the special editions, boba fett flirting with the jedi rocks back up singers 🥂
Lucky for you, that's in here 😎
Jedi Rocks was a terrible addition.
@@ToyFiend Yes, Jedi Rocks is not in it, but Boba flirting with the backup singers is. They are now just other guests and not backup singers.

@@TheVarietyGuy what about the new band members? Did you keep any new shots before the Jedi Rocks actually begins, while keeping the old song?
Why do i get so choked up when I watch these original trilogy trailers.

Excellent trailer! As a big fan of Adywan’s “what the special editions should have been” edits, your Final Cut edit definitely intrigues me!
The only thing that bothers me with Adywans is the "animation" he added to the faces of the puppets. It's just looks like a Photoshop warp tool. Everything else is pretty great.
"Bring my shuttle." ❤❤❤❤. Thank you David for this amazing piece of work.
It has "Bring my shuttle!" it has me!!!
Of all the issues with the special editions, Vader's sing-song "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." Is the one that winds me up the most
@@ywhok
So happy Im not alone.
”This is getting out of hand. Now there are TWO of them!”
@@ywhok The ¨bring my shuttle line¨ is so badass, its perfect. the other one is so lame. and its pointless to add the sequence from the suttle lading in the star destroyer (in a ROTJ deleted scene: S)
Very much agreed! "Bring my shuttle" never should have been changed. That, IMO, is a perfect example of less is more.
The pacing was better with the original line. That other line "you're lucky you don't taste very good" should be kept too.
David, I am genuinely LOVING this Final Cut project. As someone who grew up with the Special Edition tapes as a kid and seeing all the various versions that followed, I can say with confidence that this edition of the trilogy is LITERALLY PERFECT. So many details where I exclaimed, "Yes!! Thank you!!" Lol!
The original additions you made are really cool, too! Like, how TF did you hybridize the two voices of Boba Fett so flawlessly?? That alone blows my mind! 😱
Thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm so glad you are enjoying and appreciate the changes I made! 😁
If this has a unicorn dream sequence, I won't even be mad
😂 I understood that reference.

@@darth_zounds 'Blade Runner: The Final Cut' added a unicorn dream sequence.
@@darth_zounds I think it's from The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling?
This is delightful. My hat will always be off to the purists that aim to recreate the true "theatrical" version, but it cannot be argued that SOME changes are alright - especially vfx upgrades. The fact that this heavily implies the inclusion of deleted scenes / shots makes it all the more exciting.
I couldn't agree more!! I also love the theatrical versions, and made custom ISO disks for 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83 - but I also do appreciate many of the more subtle SE changes, and am excited to have these "best of both worlds" versions in my collection too!

A fan doing what Disney cannot.
Now that is what I call a dedicated project made from a passionate team of fans who take their time to restore a lot of the changes to these films, and for the better, that Disney and George Lucas couldn’t! That’s talent, right there!
@@G.S.Productions It’s supposedly because of George though. He doesn’t want anybody making their own changes and thinks that the final version of what he made is what everyone should see.
@@Deathpool_04 That’s bogus, right there. Sure, you can have the “special edition” version, but just at least get the original version of the films also. That way you can have the best of both worlds. But yeah, what he’s saying right now is complete rubbish.
@@G.S.Productions I’m pretty sure he always had that mindset rather than something he thought of recently but I do agree that the original versions should be available if someone preferred or wanted to view it.

Project 4K77 is the best in my humble opinion, original prints restored/cleaned/fixed/regraded. I honestly prefer the original effects with all their flaws but still that was what I first saw in theaters when I was a little kid and made me fall in love with movies.
Me as well. There was really no need to paste 90s CGI all over perfectly good practical effects.
It’s a shame that George has behaved that way that he has with the Original Trilogy and has really made me resent him a bit.

@@HabitualJoker You could see the comparison in Lucas's good friend, Steven Spielberg. He did a special edition of E.T. with poor cg effects, he regretted it years later, and now recognizes that the original version is the best, and that it was a mistake to try to change a product from his time.

@@ddespair :D you're hilarously stupid.
This looks incredible, man!! I hope you release this soon on May 25th. I can't wait to see it! ❤❤
Damn. Now that's how you do a trailer.
Just think- Sebastian Shaw was about 77 (9 years older than Guinness) when he filmed ROTJ. It kind of tells us that George had no idea about what he wanted to do with the timing of his backstory because if he had plotted it all out based off Anakin's ROTJ age, I guess Anakin fathered Luke when he was in his mid 50s then instead of early 20s. If George had just cast a younger looking man in his 50s for Anakin in Jedi, then this age discrepancy thing wouldn't exist. I guess putting Hayden in at the end now makes sense & Anakin's aged look in the suit can be explained by injuries & dark side degradation. Nice work
Thank you!! Those are my thoughts exactly.
I have found myself struggling to revisit the original trilogy because of all the terrible special editions choices time and time again, but hopefully because of this, not anymore. So thank you for your work sincerely, I can’t wait to see it!!!
