8:05 This cadenza is one of the best i’ve heard in my life!!! This insight in the style of the cadenza really was an eye opener!!!!!!
I love the facial expression of the cellist on the back. I can tell he is really into isserlis music and proud of the harmony cello can express
I love the fact that he plays the tuttis! Wonderful!
yes I think being with this orchestra demands something different of the soloists. ive only recently discovered NCO but now im in love with them and the "togertherness" they can create in their music. .
I'm just happy you used the term tuttis 😊
Haha agreed @Yaser Masood
Isserlis says he studies the whole score so that he knows what the other parts are. I wonder how many musicians do that? From listening to his interviews and master classes, I see that he has a profound understanding of the music he plays. And I absolutely love the look on his face at 8:03, at the being of the cadenza - he is so playful! One of my favourite all-time recordings!
@@MrTargenor what is nco
Haydn always has something hilarious and a pinch of humor in his pieces. Just so wonderful.
I know! My favorite is his concerto in D right before the cadenza. Those two notes are hilarious 😂
And, especially beginning at 8:03, Isserlis totally gets this! I love it!
Haydn - one of the truly great composers. Infectious joy, humour and emotioncombined with enormous intellectual and structural rigour.
As usual with FJ Haydn's music it is full of class and elegance. But this cellist has me floored. He is unreal...This is marvelous
His playing is absolutely the most joyful and elegant of all time!
Steven Isserlis is so very great! I love his dance and lyrical styles. ARTISTRY
one of my favourites. just wonder why some people could dislike this..
I think they thought it meant "Dis I Like" 😅
Steven is amazing . Beautiful and flawless as always . The orchestra is just amazing .
I love how Isserlis infuses his music with such joy! It is such fun to watch the expressions on his face at the beginning of the cadenza! Listening to his playing makes my day!
The chamber orchestra is such a beautiful complement, as well! Thank you!
I love him playing with joy.
As a cellist -- I've been playing since 1960 or thereabouts, and I'm old enough to remember the rediscovery of this long-lost concerto -- I wish to say that this performance strikes me as very possibly the best (of this work, I mean) that I've ever encountered. Given the superb quality of his playing, I can even ignore the fact that Steven Isserlis looks like Harpo Marx's long-lost twin brother!
David Steven Tabbat Harpo Marx haha
Harpo was one of Isserlis’ idols!
Normal and tame and pleasant, and then THAT CADENZA WAS AMAZING
FRFR
4:12 is literally my favorite part of the concerto, especially because he just killed that part!
I love the starting❤
I watch this every work day to keep me happy. :-)
What a great orchestra. I am always amazed by the great quality of their recordings
I love this performance! Bravissimo!!!
Playing this for my final high school fall concert! What a way to kick off senior year! :)
Beautiful cadenza !!!! ❤️
Bravo!!!! Such a cheerful interpretation!!
This guy totally enjoys the music. It almost seems as if he actually improvises the cadenza (as it ought to be). Only oboes and horns are missing!!
Yes, I agree, and this is one of my favourite recordings! Watch his face from 8:03 - he has so much fun playing! Making something new!
I think the string players can really arrange themselves as they like best, with no wind to worry about. It has a great feel!
best interpretstion in the world
So smooth, like cutting butter with a warm knife. Bravo!
Amazing
I was feeling kinda down until I heard and saw this. Excellent! Thank you for sharing heart and peace and soul with the world, it is sure needed. Blessings to you all ☯️🌈🙋♀️🤗🥰💙💚💜🎹🦋👍🕉🌲🙏💦☮☸🍨😁

AMAZING!!!!!!
very nice, quede marabillado y extasiada mi alma
the way you play this piece is kind of verry smooth flowing yet stable and not that strong like for example dvorak concerto let's say that. is that what it is?
Sensational.
respect!!
Brilliant.......)))
Grande! !
amazing job i have been subscribed to you guys for an extremely long time and your playing is amazing, i am a cello player i have been playing for 5 years and i really appreciate the work that goes into a performance like that.
첼리스 박진영님이 좋아하는 연주자라고 하셔서 ~
멋진연주 즐감했습니다.
Isserlis is a marvelous cellist and has clearly thought out what he wants to do in great detail, but IMHO somehow his interpretation also strikes me as a bit mannered and precious.
Even though it might seem irrelevant here to many, I do wish however that the UK's finest artists would also speak out about matters of political conscience- e.g., the British judicial system's corruption and its torture of Julian Assange. After all, if music is to aspire to our deepest humanity, then can we be true to ourselves if we remain silent about the abrogation of that humanity and the rights that attach thereto?
Hermoso🎶
What I find most impressive is the man playing the cello. He is the only one without a musical score in front of him.
Its standard practice for the soloist to play from memorie unless it's a sonata or chamber music
The soloist usually never plays with music in front of him/her 😪
Yes
I guess the soloist has already practiced so much, that he no longer needs the sheet music; and that's really great for the camera which is able to pick every single of his gestures and technics 😋🤗👌
great~^^
yeah!
wow!
Love love love LOVE. Though I do wish the 'drum solos' were taken out of concertos. Oy.
I love you
Can someone please transcribe the cadenza in the first movement? I don't have time to and I need it for an audition.
Who composed this beathifull cadenza?
Cello Rafa Isserlis himself
may ask you a question? playing this piece what is the main techniques or sort a thing to focus on?
articulation
the rest of the movements please! :)
He did
They are on a separate recording
3:18 what's he doing with his left hand?
Matteo probably was cold so he was warming it up in his suit
does anyone have the sheet music for just a string orchestra?
Well since the oboe and horn parts are not as prominent as they are in the second concerto, you can just play it without them from the original orchestration
Rishi Puri IMSLP maybe
Which cadenza is this?
His own!
What Cadenza is this?
His own!
If you ask him nicely on FB he'd send it to you for free
1:46-2:01 fav
there are many great cellist in this world, but only two are real artist, only two!! they are same carzy but in differenz way, they have both inhuman bow technique that nobody can imitate;they are same extremly and with same hairstyle, their name is Mischa Maisky and Steven Isserlis,~~~

Beautiful, however I was very distracted by the "showmanship." Just too much.
To be entirely honest, I foudn his facial expressions SUPER annoying. But once I stopped watching the video I was able to hear just how amazing his sound is on this concerto. His performance is especially impressive, since unlike some concertos skill on the instrument isn't enough to put together a convincing performance of this concerto; some tremendously talented cellists have totally butchered this piece, but not Isserlis.
@voilaviolamh Truls has still the better Bow technique!
