@@zim1966 I hate to correct, but that is some what inaccurate. While Danny did have one double headed rack tom, he was using two floor toms at this point in his career with the band. He was also using a single headed 10” concert tom next to his rack tom for this album along with the following couple. There is some great footage of the band performing this song in Caribou Ranch where you can see what Danny’s setup was at the time of VI’s recording.
I have played since 10 years old now 56 still chomping!! always been a fan of early chicago from steeling my older brothers records Awesome job on the cover!!!!!!! hard one to do. rare to see traditional grip now. you speed is very impressive! Thanks for the vid, Pauly

Some really good drummers on youtube. I can tell you play with class. You are one of those first call drummers. The only thing i hear is that you are not pushing the beat enough, just a few milliseconds behind
Wow Tate!! That was outstanding!! You played beat for beat exactly like the album. I have been listening to Chicago for decades now so I am very familiar with the notes and beats of their 60's to early 80's material. You nailed it. Your technique is so good, just love watching you jam. Btw, I love that Ludwig set and the color. Happy New Year and take care. Patrick.
Bravo! That was amazing! I could listen to that all day! If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you to learn it (and how long to perfect it)? Thanks!
Thank you! I knew and had listened to this song for awhile before actually sitting down to play it and record this video. For songs like this, where I've heard it plenty of times and could tell you the form without ever having formally sat down and learned it, it usually takes me and hour or so to sit at the drums with the recording and just work through the fills while making sure the smaller details are correct before I do a couple takes.
Great job!!.....too bad your well wishes for a great year didn't age well.....we were all looking forward to a great year. Good music like this helps a little, until we get our lives back.
I'm covering the studio version from Chicago VI in this video. Yes, Danny does use all 4 of his toms in the recording. So do I, but a lot of his fills, especially in the ride out, feature the 10" concert tom he had mounted next to his 12" tom. He played fills around the backbeat through that section of the song, mainly on the snare and rack toms.
I'm a drummer of almost 42 years, and I have to say I'm impressed how closely you played to the original! Nicely done, sir!
Thanks!
Bout time someone does Danny Saraphine justice!! Great job!
Thanks Dan!
One of my favorite most influential drummers of all time
Right?! Excellent my friend! 💯!
I have been drumming since 1970. I have never seen anyone cover Chicago/Danny Seraphine better than you. I wish I could study with you.
Danny was such a creative drummer coming up with these parts for the music...you covered him very well!
Thanks!
also Danny played one up, one down at this time also. His drums went "BIGGER" in 76'.

Agree, Saraphine was a very unappreciated drum master. Thx for doing it right.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Renee! Definitely didn’t age well lol, but I’m glad people have still been enjoying my videos...
Like the Jazzy Rock do ya; Danny Seraphine. ;)
Danny's the man!
So Kuule! Chicago should be looking you up if they need a new drummer.
Haha! I wish.
Another really great cover. I like the way you play it like the original. I do a cover of make me smile, but I'm not in your league.
🎼👍🥁🎼
changed the way I cover this on my kit from watching you
Thanks for watching William!
You remind me of a young Joe Morello.
Haha! Don't think I've ever gotten that one before! Thanks!
You should use your lower toms more in fills on this song. Sounds better. Otherwise good job.
Thanks! Be sure to let Danny Seraphine know as well!
@@tate_berkey Do you think Danny didn't use his lower toms on that song? Not true. Which recording version did you try to emulate so I understand?
