I think the ecoboost Mustang is moreso a competitor to the GT86 and the BRZ. When you think about it like that, it makes a lot of sense. You have less weight than the v8, it's a cheaper base msrp than the BRZ while being turbocharged with a lot more power, more easily tunable, more interior room, good aftermarket suspension/performance, etc. I agree that it doesn't really capture the spirit/essence of a Mustang, but ignore the badge and you've got a 300hp turbo manual rwd coupe/convertible for 27k base msrp. And in that context, I think it's fantastic.

The EcoBoost Mustang is a great car but that badge is f****** is hurting it Ford thought that people would buy just because the Mustang name and they're not wrong people that there's a lot of non car people that bought the EcoBoost just because it's a cheap Mustang but had they called it falcon or Probe or hell even brought back the stallion name those would be flying off the shelf hell call it a Sierra and if this car didn't have the Mustang name the sales of the BRZ and GT86 would plummet this car is faster prettier cheaper and a better driving car

I can honestly see the appeal of the eco boost. Some people love the shape of the mustang it looks better than the focus. And the advantages of the 2.3 is you can tune it to 400hp with ease and keep up with v8s. It’s a nice car you can’t compare it to the 5.0 but it’s a good deal considering what you get.

The 3.8 would've been better. Even the 3.6 from the f150 would make the cheaper mustang more fun.

that’s not what he means, he’s saying that for a mustang, a car that is best when racing, drag racing, on the track, isn’t that fun when you drive a 4cyl compared to when you drive a gt350

From what I'm hearing in this review, I kinda wish Ford didn't drop the V6 from the base Mustang. I'm guessing that the 2.7 and 3.5 Eco boost might replace the 5.0 in the mustang soon...or they'll just go fully electric.

@@damilolaakanni yes i completely agree, but you know, v8’s, insane gas prices aren’t for everyone, they totally could’ve kept the v6 but i feel like the demographic was better to make a 4cyl for the people just looking to cruise!

Just picked up one of these loaded yesterday. (low miles Post-facelift model w/ Both Premium and Performance packages with 6 speed) for 23K. It reminds me in performance a lot of my 1990s V8 Camaro. But with a vastly nicer interior and features, even corrected for the advance in years. (Zoomers let me tell you about this audio tech called a "cassette deck") I'd avoid the bare bones cloth seat, and radio from an F-150 work truck version, but specced up a bit it makes for a nice daily driver. I'm a huge Mazda fanboy and knowing it shares more than a little DNA with the 2nd gen Mazdaspeed 3 engine is fun. (same exact block, similar but stronger internals, new head)
And I got 34 mpg on my first commute to work, which is only slightly worse than my 3rd gen honda fit it replaced, and a hell of a lot better than my 90s Camaro. (MPG was often measured in the single digits). While I understand why you'd think so, this is not just "I couldn't afford the v8" cope: Modern v8s are too expensive and fast. I don't want or need 400-600 horsepowers in my street car. Yes you can spend more money to go faster forever, but i've flown airplanes I also dont want to spend stupid money on that are much faster than your Laferrari. (My personal record is Mach 0.72)
I'm a ride-or-die miata driver (I've owned 4). And part of the joy there is you can drive around like an asshole and explore the limits of your car without going to a federal prison that night and having your car crushed. Or god forbid, mustang GT-ing into a crowd of spectators. Japanese sports car makers in their 90s "golden period" had an unofficial rule: power was capped at around 275. Which in practice crept into the low 300s. And I think they were on to something. That sort of is the right amount of power for a sports car. (and before you cite power to weight ratio: This car weighs less than a Mitsubishi 3000GT)
The ecoboost Mustang allows you to experience the performance of a top-of-the-line 1990s-2000s muscle car. While also returning good MPG and with Apple car play. Win-win for me.

Had no idea it shared the same engine block from the Mazdaspeed 3. Needless to say I 1000% agree with you. Not everyone wants a 700hp daily driver that gets 12 mpg. Some of us find the appeal of owning a nimble RWD sports car such as the gt86 but with the oomph of a Civic Type R/Golf R/WRX. This is where the ecoboost mustang comes in, the best of both worlds.

  • @JoKIA_-100
    @JoKIA_-100 3 роки тому +12

But it doesn’t cost 50 grand either. It’s an apples and oranges comparison. It’s like comparing a Civic LX with a Type R.

I don't think its necessarily fair to compare it to a 5.0, it seems to be marketed towards other areas of the market. Also i think after driving more powerful cars I think that the opinion of reviewers may be skewed. With that being said I'll be upgrading from a fiesta, so this should feel o.k. lol. Not to mention I don't want to pay super high insurance, tons on gas and more to just keep it running. Imo 310-335hp should be good for a daily driver that I can have some fun in.

as zack said here in europe we do pay considerably more for displacement (mk1 ford focus in eu the smallest engine was a 1.4L , but the usdm one had a 2L as the smallest , and a 2.3 what we did not get the the eu , its just how it is , different markets like different sizes and at least where i live , a 2.3L will still cost you a pretty penny , anything over a 2L really also gas is more expensive at over 1$ per litre (around $5-6 per gallon) you can see why we rather have the eficient engine over a V8

IDK man, 310hp and 320 pound feet...these are not pedestrian numbers, it still pulls 0-60 in 5 seconds. And you admit it yourself--the Mustang is, historically, a *pony* car. It *became* a muscled-out beast due to Shelby and due to Cobra and the GT line. Even with the relaunch 5th gen in the early 2000s, the better car to buy for reliability was the 6-cyl. Also, much better option if you desired not getting yourself wrapped around a telephone pole. The Mustang has always been about casual (not competitive) driving with a liiiittle bit of oomph, in a domestic RWD coupe. Those who want legit muscle should get a Dodge for twice the price, or shop around for a Camaro. The whole "let's go get a smoothie with the top down" thing, is what the Mustang has always been.

Gee idk why you'd want an EcoBoost... I will say I would have preferred a 2.0L V6 with two smaller turbos or a slightly bigger one.
I will say I miss the days when you could get a cheaper RWD car that isn't a fuck off huge level sedan with FUNCTIONAL back seats

I will NEVER buy another FORD because of their failure to honor the warranty for the DEFECTIVE transmissions they put in the Fiesta and Focus. The "suites" at Corporate FORD think their customers are idiots and will buy 'Merican no matter what; well I was an idiot for buying a FIESTA. From now on I am buying a car from a company that at least tries to make the best car they can. Mazda Miata is always the answer. Mazda has good reliability and that is why I will buy one of their cars. SCREW FORD.
