I plan on a retirement in the Philippines. I’ve secured leases on two properties ( 1+ acre and 1+ hectare ). Mostly bananas and coconuts with a smattering of cocoa, avocado and mango mixed in. Goats eat the young banana plants like candy. They seem to prefer brows ( weeds and tree leaves ) over grass unless the grass is new shoots. The will eat the blazes out of citrus. Do you have a rule on grazing density? Polyface farms has recommended one cow unit, per acre per day on grass pasture. As this is the tropics I’m farming, the stuff grows up a few inches per day and knee high in a week or less. Cutting, drying and stacking feed seems possible but I’m uncertain on that method. Bending and stooping seems to be the bad method at this late stage. Scything, raking and stacking may be the better method. Training staff on a scythe might take some effort and translating. Thoughts please.
Hi do you put you keep your goats out during the rains or do they go inside ? Do you struggle with pneumonia at all with the snow ? Do you get any genetics from South Africa
They have access to shelter at all times. Sometimes we have issues with kids getting sick if they are born on a cold night. Most of the Boer genetics we have go back to South Africa at some point.
Dude the mountains look beautiful in the background
