My first year beekeeping, I can not thank you enough for posting this video! Where I live it whas been on the 60s the past week and yesterday it was up to 88 with no wind an very bad humidity! Me and my boyfriend noticed them on the outside of tr he give ans started to stress until I research what it was and how they can control heat and humidity like this. We where both scared they where swarming to get ready to leave the hive🥺 thank you so much for clearing this up for me!
Hello, I'm a brand new bee keeper. Got the Nucs, let them hang out next to the hives they will be transferred to for a couple of days, did the transfer, all good. Today I got home from work and I experienced the first Bearding on hive 1 of 2; yup kinda had me freaking out for a moment. Your videos are amazingly on point and very educational. Just wanted to say thank you!
Saw our bees do this for the first time today, so thank you for this video! We inherited a few hives with a property we just bought and are very new to bees.
One of my hives are bearding after I collected honey of which there was a lot. I have added another super and propped the top super open to give more air flow. I had never heard or seen this before. I thought I had massively upset the bees and they were about to swarm! They have been bearding for 2 days now. Thanks for the info. I live in South Australia
Took some photos of my Top Bar Hives this evening and yesterday evening. Some evenings the form of the beards is quite spectacular. Did take the time to research it the first time it happened. Tried propping lids open but it made no difference. Just two beehives that happen to be in full sun.
Heya Nikki. . Good info. I was all flustered first time I saw mine beard, now I know it’s normal and I walk up and watch. I like your info videos like this, and inspection series. O.H.
Thank you thank you! You just answered my questions abt this all at once. I have noticed that mine dnt do it so much but our big flow is pretty much done here. Most of the honey they put up is capped too so your you're right in my opinion. Thanks Nikki and thanks for helping!!
Thank you so much for your feedback! The first time I had a hive beard I panicked. I thought they were swarming. No matter how long you are a beekeeper, we learn something new all the time!
I don't think it would bother them if you inspected when they are bearding. In my experience, my bees are typically bearding in parts of the day that I wouldn't recommend getting into the hive. I find mine do it most during the evening and night. Your foragers are out and about during the day.
Thank you very much for the explanation. I opened the top of the lid to help with ventilation, sometimes this works they beard maybe every 2 or 3 days but I noticed it's only when it's hot like you said. Should I put a fan or something up there to help keep it cool. I know nothing like this happens in the wild as far as having fan or something. Just curious to see if I can make them more comfortable.

Perfect timing with this video as I just noticed mine doing this tonight for the first time!
I love your channel. Very informative.
Great video on bearding. I would like to know what is wash boarding and why do they do this. Is it some type of cleaning?

Oh thankyou was worried as I was ignorant bout this behaviour. Could be cos of the heat but am rest assured now. God bless.
Great 👍 stuff to know, Thanks so much! Was wondering what to do in this situation. Now I know.
Thanks so much. The first time I noticed one of my hives was bearding it sent me into a panic.
That's really interesting. I didn't realize they did this. Bees are smart 🤓
They are pretty incredible little beings!

THEY ARE BEARDING AS WE SPEAK
Any idea why a fresh caught swarm would beard outside of their new hive on their first day in the new hive?
Can or should you inspect your hives while they are bearding? Or leave the hive alone until they are done?

What type entrance are you speaking about at top of hive. I am new so learning.
I am trying to have my hives colonized but the bees have clusterd outside from the first day. What should I do? Is it normal.

Very interesting song!
@@sweetbeefarms Ooh, thank you for listening! 😊
I’ve seen my bees bearding and have a sprinkler system that turns on Will this harm bees bearding outside the hive if they get wet?
They should be ok. I've seen mine bearding and then it starts to rain. They just go inside.
@@sweetbeefarms thanks for putting my mind to rest
