Thanks. I will put lights there, but likely DIY style LED lights. The reason is that there are very few LED strips with high CRI value (>95). If the value is too low then the light might look nice, but it will not illuminate food in the correct color. I.e. meat will look not the way it's supposed to look. Now it is possible to get LED strips with very good light quality. This is what I will use and that is what I recommend for people who want to have the perfect light (and are not shy with electric).
Hi Mike, thanks, I am glad you like my videos. If your setup exceeds 30W, there are a few ways of doing it. Do they sit in sections, or do you have 30W in one long string? If you have sections, each group gets their own power supply. But you're asking since you have +30W in one long line, right? In that case, you can "cut"the lights midway or whatever makes sense. They will be installed the same way, but you don't insert the connection piece between the sections, and then you will need to feed each section with its own Vågdal connection cord. If you have more than one power supply sitting next to each other, one can feed 120 V from the other by using this: www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/ansluta-intermediate-connection-cord-60119925/ I should make a Ïkea lights explained video"soon, since a lot of people are asking. Thanks for bringing this up.
@@kitchensbyrannes Thanks so much. Yes I have a single line that is 34.3W. I actually have another 2 sections that are 4.3 and 8.6 respectively as well. A video showing how to handle various lighting layouts, including corners would be great!
Yes, you're right. I simply forgot to mention that. Most likely because I think it's not worth using. I've used it, and since it's part of the packaging, it's flimsy, so I find it a lot harder to use, and the result isn't accurate and the lights won't sit on a straight line, in my experience.
Thanks 👍 The lights. I have to admit that I might not be up to speed on the latest wireless products from Ikea. When I install the lights, I use the power supply and the remote. I gotta go to Ikea and educate myself soon.
@@mochiskin_ana As with most Ikea, everything is bought separately. You can get the remote in the store. They have a few different models and seem to update/discontinue the various options, so be sure to ask for one that works with the Trådfri power supply.
Thanks for the tips Rannes. Do you consider an under-cabinet deco strip essential for a MITTLED under-cabinet lighting installation in order to completely hide the lights from direct view or is it fine without them?
Most of my clients choose not to have the deco-strip under the cabinets, even with the Mittled under cabinet lights. As long as the power supply is located somewhere else than up under the cabinet.
Thanks. I would prefer the cleaner look of no deco-strip but wondered why most MITTLED lighting installation videos I have seen mention using one to hide the lights completely. Unless you are looking from a viewpoint lower than the upper cabinet height I guess they are not visible anyway so I will go without and can always add it on later if I really want to.
Good call. You won't regret it. If you make sure to tuck away the wires by using the conduits, there won't be much to see and you'll enjoy the extra distance from the counters to the upper cabinets. All the best.
@@kitchensbyrannes I was wondering the same thing. Thanky you for this particular answer. Your videos are so helpful. (Perhaps this could be your next video, comparing with deco strip or without)

Great video, thanks! We need to install (2) 18" lights under our 36" upper but can't find any instruction on connecting them in the middle. Do we use the same hardware/method as if we had (2) 18" cabinets?
Another good video! Do you put finished panels on sides of hood fan cabinet from top to bottom which would show an edge between doors or do you cut panels and put them under hood fan sides only.
@@ermannodangelo1062 I don't think it will. Any panel will protrud about 5/8" so it won't be an eyesore. Having a piece of panel under the vent hood only, is guaranteed to give it the "handyman special" look. 👍
Nope, Ikea does not have that. Unfortunately. However, too long a wire for that can lead to too much of voltage drop, so it is not recommended to have one longer than the one you can get at Ikea.
I have all my spot lights in glass cabinet, strip lights for the counter and some spot lights for custom angles without cabinet but with custom glass shelf for small plants. @@kitchensbyrannes yes only one at a time. If I bridge the two using the extension cord with one single power source then it only works for one, the other is not responsive to the remote.
You'll have to pair the power supplies to the remote, one at the time. Pair one, the either turn the lights off or unplug the one that's paired and redo the pairing with the second power supply. Can be tricky but it'll eventually work.
