• Namco Bubble Trouble: ...
1990 video game optically-combined with an electromechanical diorama and LED score display, using two mirrors. This game was a sit-down cabinet designed for ticket-redemption arcade use in North America, and was built for Namco by Dynamo. In most of the rest of the world, the game was released in an upright cabinet sans ticket dispensers.
This cell phone camera cannot seem to capture the contrast between the backdrop and the monitor effectively, which is important for the experience of playing this game, but you get the idea...
These originally came with a Wells-Gardner 27K7193 (27" K7000) monitor installed, but I installed a Nanao MS9-29SU for it's superior contrast.
I vaguely remember seeing one of these cabinets years ago. It's a really imaginative idea to have an actual physical model as the background.
It stuck in my mind forever because that exactly. I remembered it today and I'm so glad I found this video! It even shows how it worked! :D
I remember this game from my childhood. Now I know why it looked so realistic - there was a physical dollhouse in the background with mechanical doors. With mirrors overlaid, the illusion of flying ghosts looked so good. It still looks awesome today, something not even a 4K screen can match. Would play this again if it were around!
I've never seen this game before but if I get the chance I'll play it for hours.
I can't believe I remembered this game just now. Something about that concave screen made this game really freaky to me as a kid.
+TimmiT I think it's freaky to you because the design of the background makes the game look so real it feels like the ghost are actually there.
Exactly
I found it!!! I've been looking for this cabinet!! I remember playing this as a child in a Chuck E Cheese.
the chuck 3 cheese in Wayne, NJ had one. Great game. Lots of memories.
Same here!
Same, camped it with my lil brother the whole time we were there and made so many tickets 😅
My dad's fav game when he brought me to the arcade 30 yrs ago. Sadly he is gone last yr.
Oh my god, I remember this, I used to play this at Peter Piper Pizza with my sister and cousin as a kid.
But of course I used be scared since that screaming part before we play it lol.
Good times, good times.
Golly Ghost 👻 should have a reboot! I would love to this game (still with the live action house) with the ghosts have redesigns! Maybe even new ghosts too
This game looks fun. I wouldn't mind having this in my game room.

Great demonstration of this arcade game! I appreciated that you showed the workings of this game and the unusual but effective technique employed.

Yay, no more "paranormal investigators." It's a DIY ghost elimination demonstration. :)

Is the exterior shot of the house also a real diorama?
