It's because of 4 stroke diseal engine.old technology of American loco company. Now u have EMD M11 new technology which is 2 stroke engine less black smoke better fuel efficiencint engine.
@@aquasquad720 No....smoke was because Indian built ALCo has WRONG turbocharger with low manifold pressure. Sri Lanka railways complained to IR about this.
The Class M4 despite being decades older appears to be running much more cleaner than the very much newer Indian loco. The Class M10 looks like a steam locomotive. But unfortunately, unlike steam it’s a deadly spew of toxic gases that’s being emitted! If that is normal and not maintenance related, I say that our decision makers should scrap these locos and look for more efficient and environmentally friendly models. It’s high time Sri Lanka started switching to electricity. Anyways, thanks for the great capture.
The engine of the WDM3D Class M10 is a 4 stroke, V12 diesel that breath thru the blowers that provide the airflow needed to run. When the throttle is opened up ragidly (quick acceleration) the injectors dump more fuel into the cylinders and the RPMs increase with the engine burning very rich, until the rpms kick up the air flow system to pump enough air to even out the ratio. This all happens fairly quickly, but until the air intake system catches up and the engine is burning rich it will smoke. So the smoke emitted is half burned giesel mixed with water vapour.The mixture is toxic at the time of emission due to the COx and SOx (that would be emitted regardless), but all COx gasses combine to stabilize as CO2 which would anyway be the end product the IC process.
That is not a race all the train run as per to speed limit given by station master or guard because I know that wdm3 has maximum speed limit of 300mph so it is faster than canadian
Bangladesh also uses the same wdm3d,3a they are not smoking this much this is great example of very poor maintainance. Bangladeshi one runs in pristine condition
