I was lost in the Appalachian mountains going to NYC when my phone gps lost cellphone data in a snowstorm. I promised myself that I will never go nowhere without my Drivesmart Garmin. When I got back home to Illinois, I bought me a Drivesmart Garmin at Best Buy. This Garmin hasn’t let me down in the mountains, snow , and heavy rain 🌧️. Garmin is the way to go.
Ended up buying 86. Not perfect, but I like it. Definitely more reliable then the damn iPhone I used - never disconnects, no software bugs (like the one when it say go right while the route goes to the left) , does not rely on cellular network. It's designed to do one thing - navigation, and it does it perfectly well. Screen size is probably what makes it superior to using the iPhone. Downsides - a lot of small annoying things that are absolutely stupid. I can not for example change the temperature to centigrades without changing speed limits to km/h. The suction cup/holder absolutely SUCK (falls off easily), and it used a 22.5 mm ball connector that is not standard for many aftermarket holders (like 65 or BulletPoint) - had to by a 18mm-22.5 mm double ball adapter for 20$, and it's not easy to find.
Very informative but would've like to have seen it used in a real situation seeing/ hearing it perform instructions to a driver, not just talked about.
My new 66 is my 8th GPS I have owned. 6 of which were GARMIN. Each & everyone of my devices failed in EXACTLY the same way. The power/data cable connector fails. I was a mobile mechanic for many years so, I was plugging the cable in & out & in & out 4 times each workday. I also use my devices to find my way when I go 4x4 exploring. You would be surprised how much information the street GARMIN devices give you offroad. This time I have new procedure. I bought a 12" extension cable which I have plugged into my 66 and intend to NEVER unplug. I plug the data/power cable into the extension cable saving the 66 connector. !
Interesting that you have had so many failures with the power cables, I currently have 6 Garmin units in various vehicles, street and dirt bikes, handheld hiking unit and smart watch. I unplug them fairly often to bring them in the house or hotel while I am traveling and have never had a power cable fail, ever.
Why do you guys no longer use the same mount as the 3597? That magnet mount was fantastic! It makes it so much easier taking the GSP off and putting it on. Do all the DriveSmart models provide Alexa? The reason I ask is that so far I have only found the 86 to be described as having Alexa and since I do not have a DAB radio Alexa would be great for channels I cannot get on an FM radio.
Thank you for your question. Yes. The DriveSmart 66, 76, and 86 all have Alexa built in. With that said, the Garmin Drive app must be open and running on the user's compatible smartphone in order of the Alexa functionality to work and for access to live services. I hope this helps.
@@GarminRetailTraining I'm a little confused on that statement, I have an android phone, can you please be a little more specific about the garmin app on the phone? would I need to download the garmin app to my phone and then turn it on before it works? Hello, I purchased the Model Drive Smart 66 MT-D and I do not know if it has a voice command, I do not manage to give it commands by voice. Can someone help me ??
Thank you for your question. The DriveSmart 66 does have the Voice Command feature, and it has a default wake up phrase of either "OK Garmin" or "Voice Command". You can also change the phrase by following the directions in the link provided below. I hope this helps. Activating Voice Command - support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=GwpIsGFRd25ZfefEfSPA3A
@@GarminRetailTraining Thank you very much for the kindness, I solved the problem. I had to change the language. The voice command doesn't work with all languages.
What is the purpose of the weird "Straightline" calculation mode in navigation route choice? We are not flying an airplane, there's no way we could drive a straight line to our destination. We actually don't have to know what will be the mileage from the start point to the destination location if a straight line. In Garmin's earlier Nuvi models, the calculation modes provided us with "Shorter Distance", "Less Gas"...options other than "Fast(er) Time" which usually guided us on freeways. But the new Drivesmart series provided us only with a "Fast time" and "Straightline" two calculation modes. What we need on Drivesmart is the "Shorter distance" mode that could guide us through surface streets other than the freeways.
I have a question hopefully someone can answer. Is it better to use the Garmin Drive App in tandem with the GPS, or just the Cable it comes with; to assess traffic re-routing; etc.
Thank you for your question. "OK Garmin" is used for the voice assist feature and can be used without being connected to your compatible smartphone or Alexa. I hope this helps.

I only use garmin gps when traveling. Plus the whole privacy issue with the "other" guys is creepy. Garmin doesn't take me thru weird residential areas just to save me 2 seconds.
Why do my Garmin Alexa GPS have to be reconnected when I get back in my car after turning it off? The sound does not come through the speaker system of my car but true to GPS itself.
What is the main difference between Garmin DriveSmart 76 and DriveCam 76. Obviously - the dash camera, but in terms of navigation features - is there anything in DriveSmart that is not in DriveCam? Is it worth buying DrimeSmart and DashCam separately rather then buying DriveCam? I don't want to mess with too much wiring, and would prefer to connect one unit that features both functions, but my major priority is reliable navigation.
Thank you for your question. Most of the differences between these two devices is in the built-in dash cam. As far as navigation features, they are the same. Great video! Valuable information to help me on a purchase decision. My car has no cigarette 12V socket in front (only at the trunk), instead it has USB-C. Is it possible to plug in and power the GPS unit using the supplied cable directly to the USB-C (I will have to get a USB-A to USB-C adapter)? Thank you
The Drivesmart 76 comes with a power cable (approx 4 ft long) with a USB-A plug. That charges the battery inside the Garmin. If needed, that power cable in turn plugs into the supplied USB-A to Cigarette plug. So I think you will need the USB-A to USB-C adapter.
Wifi update : you need to plug into the pc to get power or let is use the cars battery. So in short : updateing by wifi is a sales gimmick . What it should be: take the unit in side youre home and turn it on and let it update with wifi, but that cant be done because the battery in the unit will not last a heavy update before it rund dead😡😡😡
Paid $750 for my garmin and its very enoying. U gota press u agreed its safe then its a car then either where to or view maps… doesn’t even show the time as u can only chose time atm or destiny time not both as my old tom tom $70
also the fucking thing keeps falling off the damn window, a deliberate faulty build from garmin on the suction mount, considering they want a whopping $50 for a mount. forcing us to give em more money to buy mounts, i call bs, should stay on the damned window, this is a very slimy way to sell. still, the gps is great.
My issue with these is that they feel very laggy and clunky compared to using a phone, for the price i think it should be an overall smoother experience
I don't see why I would use this if I have to pair it with the GPS for it to make it work well. Don't make sense guys. I want something that I only need one thing to perform the task, not have have to pair it with my Smart Phone. #facepalm

@@GarminRetailTraining Thank you for replying and providing a contact number. Greatly appreciated. I will follow up on the issue and if there is any solution I'll share it. Again, thank you.
Also I have another question, what are the process of having the GPS volume going to the car radio speakers instead of the GPS system, I'm very hard hearing
@Garmin Retail Training - I'm still looking to buy a reasonable Garmin nav with Japan maps with English and Japanese text input. Any recommendation/advice? Thanks.
What we need on Drivesmart is the "Shorter distance" mode that could guide us through surface streets other than the freeways.
i guess its for course orientation only. for those who want to have the direction but choose the own streets and route to drive
I have a question hopefully someone can answer.
Is it better to use the Garmin Drive App in tandem with the GPS, or just the Cable it comes with; to assess traffic re-routing; etc.
"OK Garmin..." Is this linking to Google/Alexa pls? If so, can it be used without linking to them? Thank you.
Thank you for your question. "OK Garmin" is used for the voice assist feature and can be used without being connected to your compatible smartphone or Alexa. I hope this helps.
But can it hear and understand the word 'Hospital'?
Garmin needs to update there system, to use ANY computer or laptop (chromebook).
Does the Drivesmart 66 of more features than the DriveLux 50? I bought it several years ago and I curious if its worth it to upgrade.
Thank you for your question. Yes, the DriveSmart 66 have many added features compared to the DriveLux 50. Below are two links - one for the DriveSmart 66 and one for the Drivelux 50, so you will be able to compare the specs of each.

I have attached a link below to a comparison chart so you could see what the differences are. I hope this helps.

@@GarminRetailTraining Thank you. Very helpful.
Inorder to use it, I my supposed to connect it to the Internet onder to navigate
Thank you for your question. No, maps and navigation are already loaded on the device. You would connect it to the computer or use Wi-Fi connectivity to update software and maps as needed.
Does anyone know if these Garmins display milepost on highways?
Thank you for your question. No, the DriveSmart GPS navigators do not display mile marker information.
Hi. Can you tell me if it has truck navigation: Thanks.
Thank you for your question. While the DriveSmart series provides road navigation, it lacks the trucking specific routing and features that the dezl OTR series has.
@@GarminRetailTraining Thanks.
Is the maps update still a lifetime maps update?I don't see the "LM" in new products anymore.
Thank you for your question. Yes, our DriveSmart units still include map updates for street maps.

Hi garmin, I am drive smart 51 user in TAIWAN, may I ask when will samrt66 on sale in TAIWAN?
Great presentation with information on all the different aspects of what these units do. Hey Matt, just purchased an 86 model!! Wooohoooo! Can you send me a Garmin tshirt?
What’s the difference between the drive smart 66 and drive smart 66 ex?
I think ex versions have reduced features
Are all these free services? What comes with it
Hi, is it easy to change the default state to my state and/or a different state? Thanks in advance.
I am wondering that even last gen of Garmin navigations are still so slow ... Even cheap mobiles phone has much smoother graphics. For me it is reason why I do not want buy Garmin again.
Why do you wear your hat on backwards? And why indoors?
Are the Updates Free?

I was keen on buying one, then I saw hat-bro. Nope, I'll keep Google Maps on my iPhone, thanks all the same.
The Tread, OTR, and Overlander GPS devices use Google Maps as their map provider since they all run Android.
Is there a unit with android auto?
Does any one know if you can get Europe maps put on these
Thank you for your question. If you purchase a DriveSmart 66/76/86 North America version, you can purchase maps for Europe separately at the website below.

What about Hawaii map ?
Thank you for your question. Yes, the North America coverage that is preloaded in the DriveSmart 66/76/86 includes Hawaii.
Does update of US maps on Drive Smart 66&76 require fee payment ?
Thank you for your question. If you have a DriveSmart device that is already preloaded with US mapping, map updates are free. If you have a DriveSmart device that was purchased outside of the US and is preloaded with other mapping, you would purchase the US maps separately. I hope this helps.
OK thanks, another question: If I download Europe map, (on garmin website it costs about 90$), do I have to pay 90$ every year for the EU map update or a smaller fee ?
Does it support Egypt maps
Thank you for your question. We do offer City Navigator Middle East and Northern Africa NT mapping that includes Egypt both in a Download or SD Card. Below is a link to the product page. I hope this helps.

12v charger or USB?
Hi. Can I download a map of the Middle East for free on this category?
Will I have to pay a monthly fee for using Garmin? I mean if I'd like to have all updated maps & services?
No, since it uses satellites owned by the US government they can't charge a fee, also it comes with lifetime free map and software updates.

Somebody please tell this Man that he has his hat on back to fron
Maybe an inverter might work
Wifi update : you need to plug into the pc to get power or let is use the cars battery. So in short : updateing by wifi is a sales gimmick . What it should be: take the unit in side youre home and turn it on and let it update with wifi, but that cant be done because the battery in the unit will not last a heavy update before it rund dead😡😡😡
Use a power bank
Nice Alfa!
At last, someone driving a decent car in these videos instead of a shitty common BMW!
Paid $750 for my garmin and its very enoying. U gota press u agreed its safe then its a car then either where to or view maps… doesn’t even show the time as u can only chose time atm or destiny time not both as my old tom tom $70
More than ten billion in the Middle East and there are a lot of consumers of Garmin devices, why not put free Middle East maps in this category
Hi, can you install tracks for Africa onto the drive smart models?
😂
also the fucking thing keeps falling off the damn window, a deliberate faulty build from garmin on the suction mount, considering they want a whopping $50 for a mount. forcing us to give em more money to buy mounts, i call bs, should stay on the damned window, this is a very slimy way to sell. still, the gps is great.
can it hang with the free google maps app i have on my phone ?
WIFI IS TO KEEP TRACK OF YOU...
iTS NOT ABOUT UPDATES... HAVE A GPS SINCE 2019 ,NEVER UPDATED IT.
My issue with these is that they feel very laggy and clunky compared to using a phone, for the price i think it should be an overall smoother experience
Garmin is laggy and slow and is even seen in this video, just merge with apple or something
I don't see why I would use this if I have to pair it with the GPS for it to make it work well. Don't make sense guys. I want something that I only need one thing to perform the task, not have have to pair it with my Smart Phone. #facepalm
Garmin DriveSmart™ 66/76/86 can they sitting in Chinese language?
What’s with the ghetto style hat?
I’d love to see solar on car gps’. No more cables, no short supply of sun, no brainer.
There’s no sun at night
Not much use, then, in UK 😉
Lousy video... you should demonstrate the device in real time instead of just giving descriptions of what it can do in arbitrary situations of circumstance.
My Garmin is junk
What a pain in the ass to use. 10 tons of useless bullshit. How about a gps that just gives directions. Nevi 200W was great and it had a detour button that was great. Siri, really, this sounds like something for someone who likes to play with computers and has no where to go. I hope it works better then the Nuvi52lm does that one didn't last long freezes up a lot.
I Have A Brand New, Right Out The Box Garmin DriveSmart 65. Its Having Satellite Issues... BIG TIME! One Minute Its THREE Turns In Back Of Me & The Next Its Telling Me To Make A U-TURN When Possible..... & I KNOW DAM WELL Its Sending Me INTO The WRONG Direction. Other Times It Tells Me To Turn Right At The End Of The Road.... But There Is NO RIGHT At The END OF THE ROAD!!!!! It Seems To Have Alot Of Issues Acquiring Satellite Signals As Well. I Find This Unit To Be Completely USELESS.... Especially If Ive Already Driven Half Way To My Destination & I Still Have NO SATELITE. Ive Tried SEVERAL Things, Including Contacting Garmin... SEVERAL TIMES & Resetting & Updating Via UA-cam Suggestions.... & I Still Have The SAME Problem With it. Does Anyone Have Any Suggestions Before I Toss It Out The Window????
Oh, boy,what a disappointing mess.

@@GarminRetailTraining Should I keep my screen 86

Thank you for your question. The DriveSmart 65 can be used to navigate without being connected to a smartphone. However, to utilize features such as smart notifications, hands-free calling, and live traffic and weather, it would need to be paired with a compatible smartphone loaded with the Garmin Drive app.
