      @@scifiboyMrandMrsArcee It actually did come back the very next year in primetime, but that ended after two seasons and the show hasn't done new episodes in the US since 2021. Kimmel did have the show's first million dollar winner in over a decade and the first celebrity winner for charity.

    In August 1999, I was having dinner with my dad at a Houlihan’s in Atlanta. Dad walked to the bar and asked to turn on WWTBAM. Bartender didn’t know what it was. Within 10 minutes the bar was packed with diners and staff watching it. It was “appointment TV”. Saw three tapings in NYC and loved the attraction at WDW. Thanks for some cool memories!

  • @MrRetroCommercials
    @MrRetroCommercials 5 років тому +15

    To tell you truth, there was no announced finale at the end as only Chris Harrison wasn't saying it. instead, they put an Audience contestant down the curtain as the final episode taped before the series was officially cancelled beforehand. Not to mention, the original UK version with Tarrant had the final episode announced five years ago.

    • @Luludu-my5nj
      @Luludu-my5nj 5 років тому +2

      And in the UK they revived the series in 2018 and still running

  • @Cmackie311
    @Cmackie311 5 років тому +12

    If they are curious as to why this show got cancelled, think about it this way:
    -Killing the original format by introducing the clock (although the format was really the same idea)
    -Viera leaving in 2011-12 gave them a cycle of awful hosts
    -The shuffle format/removing the hot seat made the show unrecognizable
    -Only 1 top prize winner since 2004 and it was a tournament that guaranteed a winner
    If ABC wanted to revive it once more in a primetime slot with the original format and lifelines, no gimmicks....the show would likely be a success again. They keep reviving old shows like Press your Luck, Card Sharks, etc....but they are hosted by comedians who don't know a thing about presenting a show.
    It's a shame this show got ruined by a lack of top prize winners and awful production during the last decade.

    • @LunalynDragon
      @LunalynDragon 4 роки тому +1

      imo the show actually peaked at the clock format, it was intense and had the spectacular anniversary special with Regis. Shuffle was where it went downhill.

    • @ajk
      @ajk 4 роки тому

      @@LunalynDragon Clock manufactured drama that wasn't needed though. Never liked it. Even Chris Tarrant had said they'd kill the show dead when they introduced it in UK after US had done it. And though he left on his own accord/the show left with him a few years later, I kinda feel he was right. Made it a completely different show, although at least they had the foresight to drop the clock for the last set of questions (aka the big money ones), something the US didn't do.

      The show is a UK created property, by a British production company now absorbed by Sony. But Disney owns US rights and co-produce it with Sony. If Disney doesn't make a new version for a long while Sony could make it themselves, but they already have jeopardy and wheel of fortune so who knows.
