  • In today’s video I’ll show you three ways to apologise in Welsh. In Wales we also use the word sorry for reasons other than being sorry. I know it sounds strange but it’s a British thing that I’ll talk about the in the video as well.

    I’m from Flintshire. Up here it’s maen ddrwg gynna i. Gynna i is pronounced as one word, like gun eye in English. As an aside when we have a headache we say Mae gynnai gur pen. In South Wales, I understand that people say Mae pen tost gyda fi.

    As a Canadian, this is a very important phrase! :) We pronounce it here in Nova Scotia as "sore ee"

    Diolch for these lessons. You might be the Welshest looking man ever! That's a compliment. Many are surprised how many dark haired Welsh there are. My father, Thomas Powell Jones was like that too. I used to get mistaken for other ethnicities, particularly in the summer, when I was working on roofs (mostly stealing things).

    Hi Jason, I have a little bit of an odd question. Are animal names such as carw gender neutral? For example, if someone named their dog blaidd, would it be a name for a male? Or if someone had a chestnut hunter section b pony, would Carw be a male name?

    So, can I use Mae'n flin da fi in a situation like 'Excuse me what's the time?'

    • @LearnWelshPodcast
      @LearnWelshPodcast  5 років тому +1

      Anna Sem Mae’n flin da fi is more of an apology type of sorry. But you could use ‘Sori’ or ‘Esgusodwch fi’ which means excuse me.

      Not any more, but there are 1st language Welsh speakers who struggle speaking English because they hardly use it in day to day life.
