I saw them in the early 70's in Pittsburgh. They opened for the Beach Boys. Should've been the other way around. I seen a shit ton of great bands in my time but SD is by far the best of all the rest. There music never gets old. I played bass for over 20 yrs in a few bands so I can appreciate the complexity of their style of music. Major minor up down and all around the best of all time. No one will ever top them. RIP Walter. Luv you guys!
@jazziespaz Another "Yinzer" here & bass player for a lifetime. These guys are musical heaven ! And now to football . The Steelers are looking very, very well tuned.
Love the post of Fagen & Becker doing The Making Of Aja,. Even using the best studio musicians in the world, they would bring a drummer in for a day, do over 100 takes on a certain song, then bring another drummer in the next day to do the same song, except that wasn't happening with Steve Gadd who does the drum track on AjA, they wouldn't let anybody else do that track except Gadd. I saw them in the late 70's in N.Y.C. and you just can't believe how good they were. Back then a lot of the top musicians on the album used to tour with them, so the live show was like sitting in the studio with them.
This is priceless for me to see a d hear this morning. I just shared it in our Steely Dan group. There are no words to describe the impact Steely Dan has had on my life. A d, even though Walter is gone, he is forever with us. Thank you so much for your time and efforts to bring this moment to us.🎼💞
Maybe because I've listened to their songs for sooo long I can't imagine another singer duplicating Donald's unique voice in all SD's songs. Not to say I don't like other bands giving it a go but Donald just makes it so perfect. Take this song Black Cow. Great to hear other bands do it BUT Donald's voice is immutably and uniquely married to this song forever. There is no other voice who can do this song and match his uniqueness. I think you know what I'm trying to say. Long live Steely Dan music and the legacy they have created.
I'm 51 years of age and have always had a "dream" of the band steely Dan coming up to my doorstep and singing one of their "beautiful" songs. I would probably faint with happiness if this ever happened.
Go see Nearly Dan or one of the tribute acts. They handle the material with great care. The present Dan would be Fagan doing an obscure track then moaning about the weather. And I'm a fan
Thank you for this. I have goosebumps everytime I hear this track. That is 31 years worth. The new live album coming in October has this as the lead track.
This is the album track over footage. Live they were at best average. The best of the Dan will always be on record or by tribute band such as Nearly Dan. They put the effort into the live shows to reproduce the sound. And yes, I'm a fan.
The Back up singer in the middle Then later on the Left is Carolyn Leonhart Shes the Smaller of the Girls....Her brother Plays the TRUMPET also in the Band...Like who gives a FUCK...
So fantatstic I had to watch it twice...Thank you for posting this for all of us to enjoy

Their lyrics are unbelievable
I heard Steely Dan, as a kid, in the throws of drug addiction. Now as an adult, I listen with a whole different set of ears!
Finally saw them about 11 years ago. Still great. (71 here)

There's a mild sarcastic edge in his voice which takes the lyrics up a notch IMO.
Nailed it! No one can out do Fagen singing these SD songs!
so outrageous.
Wow. I have so much respect for this band! So wonderful.

Great match of the video and the audio. A lot of people think this was live.

Beautiful Thomas😎
I can't listen to one song from this album without listening to the whole thing. I just can't.
Thank you, Thomas
Most welcome, sir !
As always, the music kicks major ass, but no band writes better lyrics than the Dan!

That's *exactly* why I made these videos - there are 17 of them.
