There was a very short time in human history during which things like this "music" had a right to exist. It was at the end of World War I, when the discovery of absurdity was celebrated by a movement called Dada. Copying Dada into the 21st century is not only absurd, but also mediocre.
+Earl de Galantha Interesting you sound so negative about that. What is wrong about ordinariness? Each breath you take is the same ordinary movement of your lungs and yet it gives you life. There is a lot of absurdity in life and death and universe. This Music echoes the very foundations of it all. Of course, one must be in the right mood or mode to let it sink in. My opinion...
Don't cheat, dear. Ordinariness is NOT mediocrity; mediocrity is NOT ordinariness -- to begin with. Not necessarily, and never always. Art (incl. music) is supposed to please -- first and foremost (I dismiss its obsolete and artificially ascribed "moral education mission") . This "music" doesn't. (To say nothing of "moral education", but again, I don't say anything about it). It the same repeated chords please you, OK, it's your art. It is not mine, though. Gimme Tchaikovski.
+Earl de Galantha Tchaikovski is great, but clearly different. I understand your point - this music does not please you. It can please others though. I do not think this merely subjective notion gives you or me or anyone any right to judge this music's "right to existence"... Anyway, greetings to you, wherever you are!
It does please me, for example... When I want to meditate or think deeply, this is the music I turn to. Many ancient spiritualities make use of simple repetitive structures, chants included... When I want to marvel at the brilliance of the composer, I turn to Handel, Chopin, Dvorak, Tchaikovski, Rachmaninov... you name them... But of course it is your ultimate right to feel this way about any music. I just wanted to say it feels wrong to make these feelings sound like an objective verdict. That's all. Anyway, it would be so boring if everybody liked the same things :-) And I am really glad there are people on YT who appreciate Tchaikovski!
Absolutely hypnotic.
