  • In 2012, Morris Animal Foundation launched one of the largest studies in the history of veterinary medicine: The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. Now, we have over 5 million data points on these dogs at every stage of their life. What will we learn about their health? About dog health? Maybe even about human health? In this fascinating talk, CEO Tiffany Grunert takes us behind the scenes on this $32 million study and shares how thousands of dog owners, veterinarians, and scientists have made it possible.
This video was made in collaboration with TEDxMileHigh.

Thank you for sharing this update on the study with us. Although, we lost our Hero 3 months ago, I was so very proud to be a part of this study and still so honored to be associated with this wonderful group of Hero and their families who have helped me so much in dealing with our loss of our Hero. Thank you for all the work that is being done to identify the risk factors of this terrible disease and to hopefully find the answers to keeping our wonderful pets cancer free.

My dog Ryder has been a hero in the study for 10 years but I cannot afford the annual exam for the study anymore

Are there some funds with the study that could help with that for people like you that can't quite afford the exam? I hope so!

I hope you have researched all vets within driving distance of where you live. We have lived in two different states during the time frame of the study and both times were able to find to find a vet that performed the study visit for free as long as we donated back the $75 honorarium.

Melissa have you spoken to the volunteers at MAF? Are they able to assist or suggest . We’d hate to loose Ryder & you . Perhaps there is another vet in your area willing to do the study portion of his care ?

I moved last year to Lake Placid NY and can't find a vet who will do the study. I am willing to drive 2 hours. How do I find vet in my area?

Hello, Dianne: Try the American Veterinary Medical Association, the NY state agency which regulates veterinary practice, any NY veterinary association, and local rescues, SPCA and humane societies where vets might volunteer time and services; you might start with these latter sources. Or, and maybe you already did this, look for vets in your 2-hour zone and start sending emails and making calls. Hope you find one!

Thanks for your involvement in the study! If you can log in to the owner portal you will see a spot where you can search for veterinarians in your area that are already servicing study dogs. If you have trouble finding out please reach out to the study support team and they can provide more advice.
