This video begins in the ABQ Sunport (Airport) area and follows I-25 to I-40, then heads east to NM-14 and NM-536 for the drive up to Sandia Crest, at 10,678 feet above sea level.
5200 ft to 10,678 ft is a fantastic trip! I've done many times during different seasons and it never gets old!
Miss living in ABQ, loved the view from the Ventana Ranch area.
A few years ago we flew to Albuquerque fron NH in April. After getting our rental we did this trip. Somewhere around 8,000 ft elevation we ran into snow. Allwe could think of was after all that flying we are back in New Hampshire.
Oh how I miss New Mexico! Although I visit once and awhile, I'd really love to return someday. For now, I live in Glendale, Arizona. It will never be home.
The West side of the Sandias is all desert and cacti. But the East side is pine forest and cooler. I used to like to go hiking on the Sandia crest in the summertime to escape the heat. A couple times I parked at the bottom of the Tramway and hiked to the top, then rode the Tramway back down to my car.
Thankyou for filming this road trip for me when I visit Albuquerque in a few months. Now I will not waste my time, & lunch, by traveling more than 1 mile from my chosen Hotel & everywhere I desire to visit. Maybe? You may sell DVD’s of these travels to AAA members or maybe mc members to drink beer by, while watching these travels.
I love how the city is sunny, yet as soon as you near the mountains it becomes cloudy.
It would be nice to take a downhill run. I will be looking forward to it when I go this summer to visit from Chicago.
Tpdvsdwssssss
Made this drive many times with my dog back in the 90's
Made that drive up to the crest when road from NM 10 to crest was gravel.
Good for you
Wow that must have been some time ago. The first time I rode up to the Sandia Crest was when I was in High school (1969) and it was hard top.
Somewhere along that Winding Road there's a big I guess Loop where people used to go inner tubing in the winter back in the day
Would have liked it more had it been slower so I could have enjoyed all the places and road signs ect., where I was born and raised.
I am going to make a video in real time not sped or slowed down, subscribe and stay tuned!
Cool video but you didn't show the best part . The view from the crest overlooking albuquerque .
If it is late you see just a line of darkness
That is where the Pueblo of Sandra is
I like this type of videos it's relaxing
3 ways to get to the crest! Down I-25 North and take the road that runs by the casino. I-40 exit to the Tram. And the backside of the Sandia Mountain on Hwy 14!
Nice. Been here since 02/2002. Love the place!!
I rode a bicycle from the Ladera golf course to the top. That was a long time ago.
Hey I wanted to pick up a drink at Triangle market and you just blazed right past it..?!?!
I still miss living there!
Hey, I remember now! I use to hike there.
Love the deer at 8:18. This is awesome.
I’m here and I think I’ll stay! Mountains nearby! And the pink concrete on the highway s beats any concrete in an ugly urban area!!!
Crazy roller coaster at the end!!!
On an average day of driving (8 hours) I can fill up a 32gb card.
how fast can you drive down there?
Beautiful!! Miss NM
LOL I've lived here my whole life and I STILL get carsick on that road, even if I'm driving.
And my neck hurts because I kept my head so stiff driving up the crest!!! My family says let’s go again!
Man. I live near that and like 6 years ago a construction tractor was there. It is still there! Lol
About 5:30 or so, I think there used to be an upscale restaurant on the left that I worked at for a couple years in high school. This was a very cool idea bro...
is it a nice place to live?
There is a restaurant on the top of the tram.
Joe Menendez ehh, lived there my whole life, now that I am at school I do miss it but, I guess as long as you stay in the good parts of town you are good.
You need to do one when it snows.
It isn't that bad. I think it depends on age. If you are getting out of high school you probably want to leave as fast as you can. Otherwise, it's a nice place to live.
He was keeping up with traffic! :-)
I ONCE SAW A WOLF NEAR THE TOP, on 6ft of snow, told friends in LA about Sandia Crest. Without video they took no interest
You know, I'm pretty sure you were going over the speed limit.
From the airport even. This definitely shows the Crazy NM weaver drivers. "I'm in the far left lane and need to exit in 4 seconds on the right at San Mateo."
how much tape did you use or just memory card size
That oblivious left lane driver at 4:50 is classic New Mexico.
You can tell he's a real New Mexican driver see how he tried to take out them bicyclist on the way up to the crest. :-D
Keenan Palmer what’s t speed limit over there? ... 😄 🇲🇽
That's a thing in New Mexico too? I think Oregon and New Mexico must be cousins.
I'm sure I can look it up. But could someone that maybe already knows tell me how long this takes in real time? Clearly with how fast it plays on the turns near the very top, this has been sped up.
If I remember correctly, it's about an hour, maybe a little more, depending on your level of comfort with mountain driving.
AWESOME!
slow it down
MEXICO 🇲🇽 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽👋🇲🇽
I’ll get carsick/motion sick.. if I look at this too long
Slow down bro jk haha takes me about a good hour to get up there and less time back down. Don't ride them brakes or you'll end up overheating them. Good day.

Can people go to the top of Sandia Crest to watch the balloons during the festival?
Probably will not see them very well. The crest is very high up.
Technically yesbut all you would see is dots. Sandia crest is at 10,000 ft elevation. Way way high up.
Lol it wouldn't work to well way to far
5:13 UH start
neat
Why'd you choose such a boring parking spot?! :-)
