  • This adorable bandeau top is a great way to beat the heat!
    Click the down bar for more info :)
    Supplies:
    -Sewing Kit
    -Sewing Machine
    -Stretch Fabric (preferably lycra, made for bathing suits, if you aren't sure, ask the people at the fabric store)
    -Matching thread
    -Fabric Chalk (optional, can be useful for marking)
    -Fabric Scissors
    -Pattern Paper (or just regular/newspaper works)
    -Measuring Tape
    -Ruler
    A Few Tips:
    -Make sure to use matching thread or it will show
    -Ensure that both contrasting fabrics have the exact same amount of stretch or it will be more difficult to fit and sew
    -If there is still a small hole where the twist is, use a hand needle to whip stitch it shut and it should stay just fine.
    If you'd like a tutorial for a lined version of this let me know in the comments below and I might just post one!
    Also, if you'd like to see any DIY's or how to's from this channel I'd be happy to oblige! Just send me a message.

    Once again, you nailed the "simple sewing but professional finished product" with the scrunching :) I also like to do bandeaus similar to this but use a ring in the center the fabric is wrapped around instead of the twist. Anyway, you earned a spot in my channel's liked videos playlist. ;)

    I wish you had done more explaining throughout the video. Like, why you picked those stretchy fabrics, why you used the stitches that you did. You really have to have a lot of sewing knowledge just to follow what you're doing. :\

  • @clothandcadence
    @clothandcadence  11 років тому

    Hi Brianna, thanks for the feedback. If you'd like more info on the tutorial, I'll be posting it on my wordpress blog (link on my channel, top right hand corner, on the banner) tomorrow. As for the fabric and the stitches, the fabric is typical for swimwear so it can be used in an active situation. Always lots of stretch. Also, I used a zigzag stitch specifically because I was sewing a stretch fabric. If I used a straight stitch, it wouldn't sew or stretch properly. Hope that helps!

    • @clothandcadence
      @clothandcadence  9 років тому

      Hi and thank you so much! I don't see why it couldn't! The only thing would be how you would get it on if it wasn't stretch material. So in that case, you would have to either install a zipper in the back or add elastic to the centre back to allow it to stretch over the body when putting it on :)

    Hi, how can I create a lined version of this swim suit? I'm afraid the fabric would be too thin when it gets wet.

  • @clothandcadence
    @clothandcadence  11 років тому

    In regards to the music, sorry you feel that way! I personally like videos that are quick and to the point with more information offered on an outward site (like a blog). I don't like when the videos drag on too long and that is why I made it in this style. I'll keep your suggestion in mind, though.

    I would like to make a top like this but not a bikini top...a full length top with the same effect over the chest. Do you have suggestions as to how this can be done? I wanted to paste a photo to show you, but I can not....but similar to a one piece bathing suite. Thank you!

    • @clothandcadence
      @clothandcadence  10 років тому

      I know exactly what you mean! I would suggest taking two rectangular pieces that are the length that you want and half the circumference of your true waist for the width. Sew the length right sides together and then sew the width to the bottom of the bikini top right sides together. Hem the bottom and you should have a cute tankini/top!
      For a one piece, it'll be a little bit more work. I could probably try to do a video for it if you'd like.

      i just bought a bikini made in this way, but I had to buy it in size bigger because the smaller one was sold out. How can i make my bandeau bikini smaller in the cup?? Its got lightly padded cups between the lining. It's a 32C and I want to make it into 32B. Thanks.

    How did you finish the edges of the front?

    • @clothandcadence
      @clothandcadence  10 років тому +1

      Because it's stretch fabric I thought I'd make the tutorial easier (and shorter!) by not finishing the edges. Stretch fabric likes to fold in on itself which kind of ends up looking finished on it's own. However, if you'd like to finish the edges on your own bathing suit, I would suggest using 1/4" elastic measured to the length around your chest but shortened a 1/2". Zigzag stitch that to the edge of the top (and bottom) and then fold it over and zigzag again. I hope this makes sense! If not I can always make a video tutorial on it!

    where do you buy your fabric??

  • @Sileithel
    @Sileithel 7 років тому

    In order to sew such a stretchy fabric with a common home machine... do you have to use any kind of stretchy thread?

    • @clothandcadence
      @clothandcadence  7 років тому +1

      Only if you are using a non-stretch stitch or doing some kind of specialty stitch. Otherwise a zig zag or a overlock stitch/serge will be just fine.

    • @sew.with.annastasia
      @sew.with.annastasia 7 років тому

      try stretch needles, and for hemming a double stretch needle. the double needle for hems solved my issues. just make sure when using the double needle, to have folded edge of the hem facing on the inside, so that you can see the double stitch, not the zig zag part :) just google double needle hem. hope this helps!
