  • Thanks for tuning in! This Video is for all the opal hunters in the world, who are interested in cutting opal and people who are loving gemstones general.
    Come on board and be with me on my search for a precious gemstone, the black opal.
    What is a black Opal?
    Black opal has a dark bodytone that can range from dark grey to black. Most of the time a black opal will have potch (colorless opal) left on the back of the stone (also part of the video). The jar of opals I´m cutting here including some black opals and a lot of dark ones.
    You will see a process of cutting black opal with a dremel. After this stupid intro we are analyzing the rough opal to find out where the gemstone can be hiding, then cutting these rough opals while I try to give best information. All the time I take it not too serious so this time I was trying to entertain you dressed up like Captain Jack Sparrow and doing a lot of stupid things.
    More serious information and best education for cutting and polishing opal you will find on Roys Rocks YT Channel. Here´s the link:

    How to get started with opal cutting? I highly recommend you to watch the Opal Hunters on DMAX that is very entertaining and that was my start of this hobby. To get deeper into the opal cutting process, you will be very inspirated by Justin from Black Opal Direct. Here you can watch amazing videos about the best Gemstone in the world, black opal. I buy my opals from the same place. I enjoy this video its been a year ago now since you've posted and your videos are few and far between. You really need to continue to make more videos. You are a joy to watch and since I purchase my opals in the same place you do, the next thing I wanna do is learn how to make beautiful stones outta them right now I have sand paper. Haha I never thought about a dremmil and that would make things so much easier on my muscles for sure haha okay, well get to it my friend we need more content haha 😂

      Yeah, I think here I was lucky to get a stone that is worth at least the 150 I paid for the trashy opals 😅. Wish you also best luck for your next gambling!!! I will make more videos, depending of the opal quality or funny ideas what to do with bad opal 😅

    Subscribed, recommend by Roy from Roys Rocks, nice to see a beautiful stone, they often appear in potch parcels if you take your time and are lucky. Thanks for sharing, hope the computer drys out.

      Thanks Jeff! This was accidently my first "gambling" parcel of roughs, and I never expected this nice stone in this messed knobby 😅. I was very lucky, that there was at least one cuttable stone in this 1600ct.

    Wow- gorgeous little stones you got out of it. The larger one with 2 distinct areas- one flagstone pattern alongside that amazing green sparkly pin fire!!! That will make an amazing piece of jewellery. Keep the cool vids coming… excellent stuff 👍

      Love your words mate! Thank you so much! I was unsure if this edge is flagstone, but now I feel better, that I guessed right. I've already few ideas how to set it in a ring, with the smaller stone besides of course 😊

      @@opalbadger9367 here’s a crazy ring/ pendant idea … both stones forming an anatomical heart 🫀- with silver ventricles & thin, bent claws to set it- almost like veins coming in from the edges & connecting silver between the stones…. Tricky enough for ya??

    Great video, what diamond grit do you use for grinding ?

    • @opalbadger9367
      @opalbadger9367  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Lewis! Those are very cheap burs I got from Amazon and they wear out to a grit I cannot really say what it is. There are really better ones you should use 😅. I think they are called sintered diamond burs and grit should be something round 180 grid. I stop working with the coarse ones until I see color appearing cause the scratches it makes can be very deep so you might loose to much color when trying to get to softer grits. As I recommended in the video roys Rocks is a great channel to get the serious information 😅. Try to make more serious stuff about this in future

    6:39 if that is really stone dust.. please look up silicosis and the proper safety gear you need. You are essentially inhaling mist with shredded glass here. Soil and rock can also contain toxic heavy metals as well as radioactive elements and asbestos and you REALLY don't want to breathe that into your lungs.
