It helps of you use fabric samples that have a “right & wrong” side to them, so if you want the pretty patterned side to show when you open the zipper. Is it right sides together? Or right side of main fabric & wrong side of pocket fabric? Thanks for the nice video!

Several issues which need help on this video: for instance-- using a blue ink pen which could stain the white pants fabric. The rectangle on pattern is the stitching line, not the cutting line; stitch on long sides of rectngle thru pant and pocketing, then cut in middle of rectangle leaving triangle at each end. Next stitch the zipper pieces in same stitching line as pocketing. Turn to inside & stitch down Triangle with very short machine sts. (Also best to reinforce corners of rectangle with fusible interfacing, do that before stitching). To shorten zip, remove the extra teeth prior to cutting off the excess-- then make a thick bar tack by hand and apply permanent glue to create an upper bump/stop (recreate the top stop of zipper). And lots more. Too many details are missing in video for people to be able to get best results and why spend all the $ on materials if it will look messy? Maybe slow down, do more precise work, achieve better results.

Would you attach the pocket the same way in a dress or skirt?

Not sure if this is classed as a welt pocket. It just seem like a normal way of sewing a pocket. Maybe I missed something.

Hi, there are many different ways to sew a pocket. A welt pocket is usually on the inside of the garment and has the flaps that I show on this video. It is different than a side pocket you just add at the seam.

The zip looked great! Sometimes things are messy, it’s the way you learn. Not that this even looked at all messy anyway from my eyes, it looked fab! I have only a few times sewn a zip and that was nearly 25 years ago. Now I feel confident at having a try at a pocket on a pair of shorts. Thank you so much for all your tutorials, they are SO appreciated! Xx
