Looking at modular stuff you can see why moog made the synth he did , people mostly want a simple signal path , I have two semi modular synths and I spend more time fiddling with cables than making music
hey brother, can you tell me if i have to have a dedicated mixer in my rack? or can I use the mpc x to mix by just going from my modules back to the mpc x via 1/8 to 1/4? thank you for doing what you do. I never comment on youtube but I have been checking out your videos since i got my mpc x a couple years ago and im grateful

Do you find yourself using the CV controls in the MPCX often...or simply relying on a modular sequencer, and just recording/sampling with the MPCX. Also, are you automating complex/multiple modulations? I have an MPC Studio and I'm trying to determine if its worth it to buy an MPCX (eventually). My semi modular gear can be controlled with midi and from there control the modular units. I would really only need it for recording and performing CV automatons.
I'd hazard to guess that the octaves are just so low on those first pad banks that you either A) cant hear it because its outside of our frequency range or B) your ocilator just cant go that low.
remember those initial banks are sending midi notes from octave -3 to 0
The pitch range is limited because of the 0-5V output (1V/octave)

Tube is it possible to send clock out or any simple tricks? Can clock just be a cv out trigger? I’m still learning thanks your videos have helped me tremendous
Not sure what you mean exactly, but you can easily send out a gate 'pulse' with notes programmed into the sequencer, which of course can be any rhythm you can think of, from a straight 4/4 to anything you like.
TUBE DIGGA so basically I want to send clock from the mpcx to control a module. Is the term clock the same as a sequenced pattern being sent out a cv out?

Yeah they are good synths, I've had three over the years, Virus KB, Virus C and a TI Polar (the Polar was the best).
TUBE DIGGA polar??? The mini version of the keyboard... What's so different from it than desktop 2? More process power??
The Polar is the white 37 key version of the TI desktop

great vid do you have the mixer routed back to mpc as audio?
The audio you hear in this video is directly from my mixer. So my mpc and modular are both going in to my mixer. I can of course sample or monitor any sources going in to my mixer back in to the mpc.
Surely the MPC X is in need of a dedicated modular operating system ? Has anyone made one?
I’m still waiting on mine arriving so forgive me if this all exists - but can it do LFO, slew, S&H, envelope outs?
It should also have a cv input to modulate the sequence.

If you go to pad performance in A you can play the different notes also but I am not sure why if your out of this mode it does not trigger the scales until your in C?
Yeah it seems to automatically shift the pads up to a particular octave in pad performance mode. It may be something to do with lower range limitations of 5v per octave.

Good idea - I may do at some point, it's a very deep machine and much of what I get out of it is very much trial and error and flukes/experimentation. I wouldn't be able to fully explain all of it and would be a little out of my depth. That's not to say I don't know what the f*&k I'm doing! I know a fair bit about it but there's a few areas I need to research and explore more. It's one of a few modules I don't think I'll ever sell, it's superb.
Hopefully I'll do it soon but will have to read up on some stuff.

El Morto Beats Hip Hop Beats You would have to buy some kind of power supply and case - there are things called ‘skiffs’ which are the cheapest and most basic ways to house and provide power (via ‘rails’) to a module. Otherwise a case like mine which has a built in PSU or maybe a smaller case with just one row, or half a row to fit this module and a couple of other modules. Specifically a VCA and envelope module (some combine the two)which will allow you to have control over the shape of the sound. Just the Shapeshifter alone will be frustrating as although the X can trigger it (gate) and control the pitch (CV), you ideally need a vca to control the amplitude and an envelope to trigger the VCA and adjust the attack/decay/release. Otherwise the sound will just be a lot less dynamic.Check out this guys video series which will show you the basics of what it can do: ua-cam.com/video/jlnj4HwHMlk/v-deo.html

tube completely unrelated but IM having problems connecting my roland tr-8 into my mpcx and I only hear a static-y and not loud enough drums. Anything I should do?
You'll have to explain your set up in more detail. It could be many different things - is the input switch at the rear of the MPC set to LINE or PHONO? If it's set to PHONO then that could be it as that is just used for VINYL/record players. It may also be your TR8 master volume or track volume are set too low. It's best to send the loudest signal you can and if necessary dial it back to a clean, more suitable level so it doesn't distort. Basically, your source sound (the TR8) needs to come in to the MPC as loud as you can before distortion and adding gain via the MPC gain knobs should be a last resort or used just for a small boost. Other than that it could be many things, but you'l have to explain your set up in more detail.
