I have a much greater appreciation for the GE Frame 7EA turbine than before. Quite a system GE has put together, and the operation looks fairly intricate as well. Start up especially requires more than just 'flipping a switch' to ensure safe turbine start-up.
@@SamGhaly21 I think I posted a link to this video to give others on a particular forum-style website just what is entailed in starting up a turbine-powered 'peaker' type power plant, with consideration of temperature, as in the month-ago failure in Texas of a number of power plants, and probably the failure of a few more to 'start' again most likely b/c of 'cold' (cold oil, hydraulic fluid, etc.) issues.
.. how did I get here? I've never set foot in a power plant and never will, much less be trusted with startup of a gas turbine. No idea, but I've watched a fair bit of it, this is interesting stuff!
I had the opportunity to operate a frame 7, Compared to the old Pratt and Whitney twin pac units the big frame machines were pretty difficult. GE’s newer LM 6000 were even more difficult to operate and maintain.
Commissioned Mitsubishi in line 8000 amp bus circuit breakers for these gas turbine power stations in the early 2000’s . Imagine preheating natural gas before injecting it into combustion chambers on a jet engine.
Great video showing there is a lot more then just replacing the propeller on a turboprop engine by an electric generator. Still a gas turbine has a 33% efficiency while a diesel goes in the 50%, both can start quickly to provided power at peak demand, what's the advantages of turbines over diesels?
You can have a look on the combined cycle performance /efficiency (Gas turbine+HrSG+Steam turbine ) this is nearly about 64% of efficiiency nowadays according to GE 9/7 HA technology Gas turbine ! AND OTHERS OEMs
@@James-brayton Combine cycle turbine are very efficient but are for base-load production and should replace the gas burner in all the steam turbine power plant. This video talk about peak leveling production, a generator running on short notice a couple hours a day and not necessarily every day and claim a 33% turbine efficiency. Gas turbines are not cheaper to build produce more CO2 per MGWh generated. I still don't understand the benefit of a gas turbine over a diesel generator.

Now for Diesel versus Gas turbine i think there are many points for comparing them about why they are used /installed It is well explained in some articles that you can find in the web!

DC for controls and emergency lube oil pump and perhaps the turning gear. AC for the starting lube oil pump and the starting motor and the torque converter charge pump and guide vane motor and various cooling fans. I used to be in charge of operation and maintenance of a GE 7B GTG unit with a HRSG.

less moving parts, a turbine will run 10 times longer than a reciprocating engine before rebuild
