This actually reminds me a lot of LEGO movie if anything. Just because it seems like they are actually toys and someone is playing with them, and they don't know what boyfriend and girlfriend actually do together. Also, WIll Ferrell is in it.
that was kinda my thought except in the lego movie guy didn't really "go" to the real world so much as he was yanked into it by the kid playing with him, so i feel like it's hinting on that, but will subvert the expectation somehow.
Barbie did used to be just the white blonde haired blue eyed doll and she had friends to be able to sell more diverse dolls like Midge, Christie, Teresa, Nikki, Kira, etc. The first Black doll that was named Barbie was Black Barbie in 1980 and ever since then they’ve advertised dolls of all skin tones and hair colors as Barbie but it wasn’t until more recently (probably around 2014-ish and 2016 when they introduced new body types) that now pretty much all Barbie and Ken dolls are Barbie and Ken. This way they can be even more diverse and not have to rely on established characters. They still do characters like Stacey, Skipper, and Chelsea (who are Barbie’s sisters) but they don’t really do her friends as much because now they’re advertising their dolls as Barbie and Ken can be anyone and can do anything. The only friend of Barbie that you can buy now that I can think of is another character named Barbie but she’s from Brooklyn so the two Barbies nicknamed each other Malibu and Brooklyn.
Then there is Universal with Oppenhiemer and Paramount with Mission Impossible dead reckoning. Apparently Insidious chapter 5 is also releasing and it is by Sony. I haven't heard anyone talking about Mission Impossible and Insidious but they can potentially compete.
@rhaspodel Yeah, one movie is going to be Philosophical Masterpiece while other being based on an IP which literally gave kids Hyper Sexualized doll (Not to mention the Zero Figure perfect body came up with that)
"My favorite 'male Barbie' was Aladdin" OMFG THE SAME! HAHA! My friends and I just automatically included him in our Barbie world adventures. I never even considered that was a relatable thing.
I'm a 57 year dude that had G.I. Joe dolls when I was a kid. And, because G.I. Joe was the coolest dude around, I also had a Barbie doll for his girlfriend...and they definitely did some shenanigans (as Achara put it). Like she said, since they are NOT anatomically correct...it makes it even funnier. I definitely feel that that is what is going to happen in the show...showing them spooning or something. Hilarious teaser trailer.
Okay for some clarification on all the Barbies in this movie. Back when they had the more vintage looks all the Barbies Dolls that were produced would have alternate versions from time to time. It often came with hair color and sometimes an eye color switch but they'd still be considered as "Barbie". Sometime later they would have it be "Regular Barbie & Ken" then "AA (African American) Barbie & Ken". Even now with the revamped fashionistas line they don't have names just extremely different "Barbie" looks for the time today. However, Achara is right Barbie has had friends and family that do have names. Barbara "Barbie" Millicent Roberts is our current Barbie with her sisters Skipper, Stacie, and Chelsea(named Kelly in earlier iterations). Her parents are George Roberts and Margaret Rawlins Roberts. Her extended family consists of her Grandmother Rawlins, Milicent Rawlins (Aunt), Adele Roberts (Aunt), and Kristen Rawlins(Cousin) with Jazzie another cousin allegedly all from her mother's side. On her fathers, we have her aunt Marlene Roberts and her two kids Max and Marie, Lillian Roberts Fairchild with her husband Claude Fairchild, and daughter Francie. Brief shout out to her discontinued younger twin siblings Tutti and Todd and Chrissy the on-and-off literal baby sister to the Roberts sisters. Her friends are a different case varying from era to era we have her hometown bestie Midge whose boyfriend Alan Sherwood is Ken's best friend. Christie: Barbie doll's first African-American friend character Teresa Rivera: Her Hispanic friend Summer Gordon: Barbie's Ex Blaine's little sister who is Australian but is American in all cartoons Nicole "Nikki" O'Neil-Watkins: Now Barbie's current African American bestie she was originally Christie's younger sister and Barbie's sister Skipper's friend. Raquelle: Her asian Frenemy. Originally white in the Barbie diaries Raquelle as a character hasn't changed much. She's always Barbie's rival for everything even for Ken's affection just like her twin Ryan rivals Ken for Barbie's affection. they become better friends in the animated movie A Fairy Secret. Grace: Apart of the SIS: So in Style line in the 2000's she's one of Barbie's friends that moves to Chicago and meets new friends Trichelle and Kara. this is only to name the really current cast of friends there are so many more I could list but since none of the trailers haven't actually shown what the movie's premise is about I'm sure we'll see them or have mentions to them as we see Alan (Micheal Sera) in the trailer and Midge's official pic was uploaded on the movies official insta.
I don't think I ever had my Barbies do "shenanigans" because I was a fairly sheltered child. But I absolutely had my Barbies going on epic adventures and being villains and all sorts of wild, somewhat violent things. (sometimes including my brothers transformers too) I lived for the drama, the backstabbing, the "take over the world" plots. And I'm pretty sure I revert torturing a Barbie. Soooo... I'm not sure if that's and better than "shenanigans"
My barbies were all about stitching new clothes for her. Special from my old baby frill socks which I could never wear anymore coz I was growing and my legs were too big to fit in the frill socks .
Its so funny to see jaby after knowing that thing about Achar 😂🤣🤣😂 he was so inocent and surprised 😂 . Actually I can relate to you Achar on some level n totally understand jaby's free as he grew up with a brother 😌. Thank a lot for doing all this reactions so quickly as it always a joy to see all of you guys thanks for bringing happyness n fun in many lives we all love you and your team may god always bless you achara n all your team 🎉 .
Achara, is literally me, growing up in the early 2000’s. Barbie and Ken definitely were kissing, also, yes her friends had names…. I only know her white one as BARBIE!!! 😂😂😘
Achara isn't alone. My sister and her friends used to make the Barbie and Ken, et al, dolls kiss and sleep in the beds naked. I don't think as kids they knew what was supposed to be happening and I remember asking them once why they did that with the married and dating dolls and all I got was that it's what they had seen on their moms' soap opera shows between people. They also had lots of dramatic storytelling with betrayals, attempts to murder, etc....likely again influenced by the soap operas. In my neighborhood there was an equal number of boys and girls and during the summer months we'd rotate between what we'd play together so we definitely all witnessed lots of different ways of playing with toys. When we'd play with TMNT or other action figure toys we were usually just recreating the concepts from the tv shows/movies those action figures were from, both boys and girls. When we played LEGOs we built buildings and formed towns/cities and played with the various minifigures with names and personalities related (and we usually had a mixture of the different themes so like in the LEGO city in my bedroom there were pirate minifigures, town minifigures, space minifigures, medieval minifigures, etc we would play with them with those type of silly personalities in a town setting). When we weren't playing with toys we were playing capture the flag in the nearby wooded area or playing at the nearby playground or playing games outside in each other's front yards. There was the house with the kids with the swimming pool, the house with trampoline, the house with the tree fort, etc. And many of our parents would play board games with us on the weekends or we'd play video games (I was a kid in the 1980s and teen in the 1990s), like the house with the tree fort was the first kids on the block with a Nintendo and we'd play Mario Brothers together. And of course there were weekly movie nights with friends and extended family which involved food like ordering pizza, making tacos, or barbecue foods that we'd all eat while watching the movies. I remember in 1984 when I was 6 when my cousins came over and they, some neighborhood friends, my sister, and I all watched Star Wars for the first time on VHS. And then me begging my parents for the Star Wars toys everytime we went to TG&Y, Walmart, or Kmart. But nah, Achara, my sister's friends played crazy with the Barbies, too, and I have plenty of other friends who've talked about the crazy ways they played with Barbies, too. I even have a bi friend who grew up where her mom wouldn't allow her to have a Ken doll and just cut the hair short on one of the Barbies for her to use as Barbie's boyfriend. Mom was super religious and my friend likes to joke "she basically encouraged me to be a lesbian as a kid" whenever she tells the story. And I do have friends who played with action figures in similar ways to kissing, etc, but then I also had friends who would do things that caused them to get broken, too. So kids definitely all kinds of ways to play with various toys, but I think most films, etc, try to keep it rated G/PG with the jokes about toys/games/etc if they can since they want to market the films to kids (although considering that we live in a society today where a small loud portion of it literally gets offended by everything and the controversy ends up making films/products/etc do even better maybe the studios should consider pushing it. I'm almost certain some person out there thinks that last joke in the teaser trailer so I'm not sure why the studios even bother anymore). Great reaction!
I always got the long brown haired one for bdays and Christmas and her name was Theresa... im pretty sure her freinds DID have different names and im really suprised that got looked over for the movie
I used to collect so many Barbie dolls but my mom never let me have any ken dolls. So nothing crazy happened. I think the most I did was make my Barbie kiss a Spiderman action figure.
If you pay attention to the scene with the spiky hair doll, she bends down to see Barbie's feet and they are flat, which is implied in the beginning that they are supposed to be pointy, that's why she will be an outcast, that's her imperfection.
never heard of this person. did a google search and with the first picture: YES. they should have gotten all the jamie pressley lookalikes for this movie. jamie pressley, margot robbie, samara weaving and emma mackey all being barbie in the same room in the same movie in the same outfit?! they could even do the spiderman meme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the start, Barbie came in blonde, raven haired, and titian variations. Blonde Barbie became emblematic of the brand starting with 1977 Superstar Barbie. Andy Warhol even did a painting of that Barbie. But, Barbie also had friends with other names. Midge was first. Then she got a little sister, Skipper. Other dolls were introduced, but didn't take off... a friend of Skipper's named Scooter and a friend of Ken's named Allan and another little sister named Tutti (w a friend named Chris). There were also black Barbie friends, Christie & her friend Brad, and a very ill-advised "Black Francie" doll that had the same face mold as a white doll friend Francie. Casey and Stacey came with all hair colors. The redhead Stacey is my fave. Later friends include, Kelley and then Teresa and Kira. Then more sisters: Stacie, Kelly, Chelsea. The line has slowly diversified. And, yeah. Most of us had that awkward discussion with mom when she found Ken on top of Barbie (looking like he was doing a pushup since his arms didn't bend then). :) ;)
Barbie has 3 sisters, Skipper, Stacey and Chelsea. However I guess in the show they leaned into the long time joke or oblivion of kids who buy the barbie company dolls and still call them barbie though they have different character names. Kids would just go, its barbie! Even if it had a different hair colour. Thats my guess. Not every barbie doll owner knew the names of the different characters. So I find it hilarious and adorable.
As a child the only reason I had Barbie dolls was because my friends liked to come over and play with them. I had Barbie, Stacy, and Kelly... and they played with my Jasmine and Aladdin dolls. Also, I had an MC Hammer doll with a sparkly purple outfit. He was waaay cooler than Ken. Lol.
According to Wikipedia, all the other Barbies are different professions, so like Writer Barbie, and Journalist Barbie, and Physicist Barbie, and Judge Barbie, and Simu and Gosling are playing different Kens, whereas Michael Cera's gonna be Allan, and Emerald Fennell will be Midge. An' yes, Achara, guys were sickos too. We got our hands on nudie mags, we had all our own exposures to adult things well without our parents' permission. Just that a lotta that was outside the realm of our toys. Like, GI Joe in the '80s had very few female characters and even fewer toys made of them, since they didn't sell that well. It wasn't until like 10-20 years later after we started to become adults with spending money and less insecurities that demand as collectors started giving us more toys of female characters (eg, with Transformers, who were all robots anyway).
As a 2000 baby, I grew up with knowing Barbie could be any skin tone and can do anything (job wise) but yeah everyone knows that classic Barbie is blonde hair blue eyes. That’s why I always preferred bratz dolls instead (felt more fun and authentic and cooler fashion).
They seem really confident about their chances going head to head with oppeinheimer so there must be something damm special about this movie. definitely gonna watch both in theatres.
well this is a comedy completely different audience , this will prob outperformer Oppenheimer by quite a bit just because a movie about the creator of the Nuclear bomb isn't exactly a mass Appeal film.
simu is just asian ken. and yeah there is barbie and her friends. you can youtube the commercials. there is also ken and his pals and barbie's kid sister skipper who also had her friends. barbie has a HUGE universe and cast of characters. the web series is awesome too. this trailer reminds me of it.
I (a girl) knew I liked girls since a young age, so not only did I have Barbie getting “down and dirty”with Aladdin and Saved By The Bell dolls, but she also saw some action with Kelly Kapowski! 😅
I'm really looking forward to seeing this. As a child I didn't have Barbies, but I had original GI Joe dolls (the 12" articulated ones, pre cartoon versions), and I used them with which to experiment with stop motion animation (back then it was standard 8mm [celluloid]; even Super 8 film was in its infancy). I did have three generic [non Barbie] female dolls (same height as the GI Joes), for the animated films. Nothing ever "provocative," generally they were being hunted/killed by large (plastic) T-Rex figures and such...
I remember there were dolls in the Barbie line not named Barbie. I know her sister is named Skipper and vividly remember a 90s commercial for a black Barbie doll named Shani.❤ETA: 7:00 yeah I think that was the joke 😂
When I first saw the early stuff from this movie and Ryan goslings overly tanned face with the bleached hair I cringed, but I give it up to GRETA, she’s always impressive.
I use to have a stickers on my notebook in 7th grade that reads “Wish I was like Barbie, that B***h has everything” lol, I use to always have Ken shirtless. Never had a shirt on. Yess, I use to have my Ken’s dolls do fun fun stuff lol. And grilled my little sister Barbie on the grill, pretending that she try to take Ken away from Ken. Lol Also, sprayed her Barbie car black as Ken Batmobile. Lol
"For people who has seen this trailer, grip the sides of your monitor, tablet, or phone. Hold it tight and just lick it!! This is 100% Grabe A Kobe beef What Happened material here folks!" -Matt McMuscles
I made my Barbie and Ken bum their heads "as kissing" and that was my extent 🤣 Other than that My power rangers and Justice league and Avengers were just crossing over and eventually being villians or heros as per my wish and saving their "barbies" 🤣🤣 Yeah I'm a guy , and Yeah that was fun 🤣🤣
Well, canonically have now Barbie Brooklyn and Barbie Malibu and they're best friends and happen to have the same name. But rly to kids i think all female dolls are Barbies and all male ones are Ken.
Achara feeling joy looking at this trailer is so relatable. I’m obsessed with every frame.

SADLY Mattel and Aqua are beefing so that won't happen
this movie better have this song or else .
For those that think alike. ua-cam.com/video/ZyhrYis509A/v-deo.html

I'm guessing that the scenes that look like a musical will be "I'm a Barbie Girl"

7:38 “theres no need for that. we were busy saving the world.” That’s genuinely one of the funniest and most accurate things ive heard in my life
Lego Movie Meets Life-Size- I'm so excited for this film✨✨
They seem really confident about their chances going head to head with oppeinheimer so there must be something damm special about this movie. definitely gonna watch both in theatres.
well this is a comedy completely different audience , this will prob outperformer Oppenheimer by quite a bit just because a movie about the creator of the Nuclear bomb isn't exactly a mass Appeal film.
Im SO EXCITED to see Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie 💙💜🤍💖🧜🏼♀️
simu is just asian ken. and yeah there is barbie and her friends. you can youtube the commercials. there is also ken and his pals and barbie's kid sister skipper who also had her friends. barbie has a HUGE universe and cast of characters. the web series is awesome too. this trailer reminds me of it.
"Last Action Hero" is a great reference point
I (a girl) knew I liked girls since a young age, so not only did I have Barbie getting “down and dirty”with Aladdin and Saved By The Bell dolls, but she also saw some action with Kelly Kapowski! 😅
And i am just watching "Candice Renoir" where in the first episode somebody said : i guess this is my first police Barby 😄
First Tetris, then Air Jordans, now Barbie. What's the next movie about, a biopic about Teddy Ruxpin?
Dude don't cut off Achara!!!
I feel like this might be like Life Size 😂 ❤ I'm actually so excited
It was said that movie gonna drew some inspiration from the Truman show
I am happy for Achara. Honestly I want to see this movie, I am intrigued.
Apparently, there was an alternative Ken named Alan, but it was discontinued decades ago. And guess who's playing him in this movie ... MICHAEL CERA!
My favorite male barbie doll was also Aladdin!! 😂😂
My Barbie's definitely boinked. You're not alone lol
Im laughing hard with you two about toys doing stuff HAHAHAHA
"I heard something completely different"
"I think thats the point"
It's like you guys just discovered puns.
There were both; at various points in time, there were Barbiies in multiethnic varieties AND Multiethnic friends of Barbie...
My Barbies were often engaged in romantic weird shenanigans with a few Kens 😂😂 As I got older, that became more frequent 😂😂
I don't know if this movie will be good or bad but the conversation after the reaction was hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dirty Minds
This is gonna be awesome
SO PUMPED FOR THIS!
I remember there were dolls in the Barbie line not named Barbie. I know her sister is named Skipper and vividly remember a 90s commercial for a black Barbie doll named Shani.❤ETA: 7:00 yeah I think that was the joke 😂
I’m sorry, but the talk about barbie dolls doing some shenanigans is some of the funniest shit I’ve heard in a long time
Thirteenth Floor reference! I thought the same thing! Driving into the desert until the world “ends.”
😂 Bless Achara ❤
I cant be the only one who sees simu liu and jaby are looking alike 👀
Ah ah ah ah yeah come on barbie let's go party. whoooo, whoooo
Cool hat 🎩
Maybe This Is The First Movie Where Margot Robbie And Her Look Alike Emma Macky Are Casting Together ❤
Achara should definitely make an r rated version of a barbie movie with Margot robbie😂.
Achara is 100% correct
Those roller blades had better be important! 😆😆
7:41 strongly agreed jaby
Lol
C'mon Jaby! In between saving the world, I'm sure you had He-Man and Teela getting up to some shenanigans! 😜 Stop acting all appalled! 😂
This is giving me teen beach movie vibes 😂
"For people who has seen this trailer, grip the sides of your monitor, tablet, or phone. Hold it tight and just lick it!!
This is 100% Grabe A Kobe beef What Happened material here folks!"
-Matt McMuscles
I made my Barbie and Ken bum their heads "as kissing" and that was my extent 🤣
Other than that My power rangers and Justice league and Avengers were just crossing over and eventually being villians or heros as per my wish and saving their "barbies" 🤣🤣
Yeah I'm a guy , and Yeah that was fun 🤣🤣
No it is not Arnold coming into the real world, it´s the kid who goes into the movie right? Havent seen it in a long long time.
I thought The 13th Floor was pretty sick for back in the day!
Also I think you were referencing The Last Action Hero?
4:35 Yes, I know what you’re talking about because there were friends over the years.
Edit: The friends are featured, I think.
Well, canonically have now Barbie Brooklyn and Barbie Malibu and they're best friends and happen to have the same name. But rly to kids i think all female dolls are Barbies and all male ones are Ken.
does no one remember the Disney movie Life Size? That’s the vibe this is giving me
Come on barbie let's go party
Wait! What?!?! She never saw Last Action Hero? Why are we not addressing this?
Who said Hollywood doesn't make flims colourful ,over the top actions and musicals anymore .
“I just know Barbie and Ken… an-and aloha Barbie”
