      @Robin Alley Make sure somone is watching... see what can be done, you must be part if the infamous bush control mafia. Just be cause they have done twice the work you would put in doesnt mean its bad, more likely that they dont do shoddy work and let it regrow faster to get repeat buisiness.

    Ive always wondered what kind of vine this was. This stuff is everywhere and fast growing. Took my dog for a walk, and he stopped for a crap, he took too long and it grew right over top of him. Same as grandma Kane, going across the yard with her walker, BAM it got her!. We warned her, she wouldn't listen, stubborn as that dog she was. And look what it got her.

    Kudzu...the gift from Japan that keeps on giving. Somewhere in that mass of biomass is a central stump or root. Find that and destroy with gas and fire and no more Kudzu. I recently did that to a patch in North Alabama that had been growing for 60 years. The "tap root" was about 2.5 ft in diameter and I found it after a brush fire exposed it. Great video!

    I spent an entire year clearing kudzu from my sister's back yard. I originally used used a lawnmower on it's lowest possible height setting, but it kept growing back.
    I had to keep coming back every weekend and dig up the roots with a shovel. Some of the roots were thicker than my arm. I had to keep coming back after I found a new vine popping up from the ground. The Kudzu had been growing in her back yard for over 20 years, so there were a LOT of thick roots. I wish I had you guys there!

    • @eddiemertin3381
      @eddiemertin3381 3 роки тому

      I just completely removed kudzu and oriental bittersweet from 10 acres. You do not have to remove roots, simply remove the root crowns from the storage system roots. Toward the northerly range kudzu may often have two root crowns, one several inches below the top crown, to be activated if the top freezes. Mature root systems will have a few side bets with storage roots in case something happens to the main crown, up comes a clever new growth center.

    • @scrapman502
      @scrapman502 2 роки тому +1

      @@eddiemertin3381 The Kudzu I was digging up had been in this backyard for 30+ years and was well established.
      Just cutting it off won't kill it, It WILL grow back. I had to dig up ARM sized roots several feet long to completely remove it. And if I didn't get it all, or dig far enough, I would know, because the next two weeks after cutting it, I would see new sprouts popping up where I stopped digging. and thevines were already over a foot long.

    Kudzu is an invasive plant species. When I drove a semi-truck for MidWestern and went through some of the southern states back in the late 80's, I saw kudzu covered cars, power line poles and spread out over the wires, I saw trees covered with kudzu and even some farm out buildings covered as well.

      Long story short, kudzu was originally planted in the Southeast for erosion control, but it quickly became invasive, and smothers land and trees. Whole sections of forests and trees along the sides of roads are just covered in kudzu. It grows fast and is tough to kill.
      If you want to get rich, all you have to do is to come up with a cheap and safe way to kill kudzu while leaving the underlying vegetation intact... Or better yet, find a way to easily harvest kudzu and turn it into something useful, like biofuel.

    Why this video popped up in my feed I don't know. But I'm so glad it did. I used to live in Greer before I moved to Iowa. South Carolina has some unfavorable things like fire ants, copperheads, and kudzu. Here in Iowa, you get high taxes and five brutal months of winter. Both have great people.
    Awesome job. I'll keep y'all in mind if I encounter kudzu when I move back.

    Wow, if I had not seen them take that Kutzo down, I'd of said it could not be done. Truly it's the vine from hell. It kills everything it grows on or over. Nice job guys.

    I would support a national program funding kudzu removal across the country. It makes the forest perimeters look horrible.
