Thanks for this video, I was so tired of Drake fans telling me that family matters was the *best song* in this beef, despite the fact that I don't hear this song literally anywhere, It sounds like it was designed to be a smash hit and it just didn't do what it was supposed to do, You would think those fans would be able to carry it to at least 200 million if it was that good, but I think a lot of Drake's audience is the un-loyal general audience and if they can be swayed he could actually take a numbers hit
I think you must also consider the fact that some of the lines in that song aged poorly. Such as the YG line. The line about the slaves. And also you must also remember the mood change that Kendrick did with Meet the Grahams. Like Family Matters had a hype while Meet the Grahams made us listen attentively because of the deep topics. And also he dropped Meet the Grahams so quickly to obviously shock the people. It was strategic.
3 things: Its kinda taboo to like FM, as the overall takeaway is Drake lost the beef; who's gonna rep a "loser" anthem. Drakes fans are like golden state fans;lotta followers and casuals, but fewer stans. Look at lil Pumps followers and ask why it never translates to sales. And there have been hella Drake-expose vids since this L. Even if he technically did nothing wrong, ALOT MORE people see him as a culture vulture and a creep/groomer
The issue is Drake backed out He isnt on tour And this song doesnt have a good space in public. The 3 different beats that dont blend together None of it is bad but the strong/great part is the end. Eurphia has a more consisent beat tone it plays better
It's a good song, I'd even argue that it's a good diss considering he absolutely roasted Rocky. Just not up to par with what Kendrick had under his sleeves.
At first I thought Euphoria was going to be a song I listen to once and forget about after a while, but 2 months later it’s the track I listen to the most from the beef, with 7 minute drill and push ups in 2nd and 3rd. Euphoria is such a well crafted rap song lyrically. Every bar had purpose and played a role in the song, even the voice inflections that I usually find annoying on most Kendrick songs were actually a plus to it all making it right after Not Like us the track with the most replay value for me. As a basic modern hip hop sound, Family matters was definitely the best sounding track, but in terms of rap, writing and song construction, Kendrick always had Drake beat which is why Drake tried to do the “I expose your badness” angle, which backfired on him.
Kendrick 's camp allowed reactors to review euphoria without copyright strikes which accounted for many more reviews of his music which is going d advertising. His team did everything right.
The answer is simple and not long at all. Not only did Drake lose, who wants to listen to the loser over the winner, but he got accused of a very damning accusation. What he got accused of is enough to make people, especially parents, stop hearing his side.
I will share my opinion as a Drake fan. Personally, Family Matters is my favorite song in the beef and I replay it the most. As others have commented though, the best parts of Family Matters is Drake destroying all the other side characters in the beef. He bodies ASAP Rocky, Rick Ross, the Weeknd. You kind of have to be obsessed with the lore to even know what Drake is talking about there though. And that last part going at Kendrick alone, it's just not catchy. It's this sort of nasaly tone, unmemorable beat, and then the big accusation at the end. And of course Kendrick intentionally smothered it. In hindsight, Drake really needed to be ready with a Kendrick-specific attack. He let himself get distracted with all the other rappers, singers and producers going at him. People wanted Drake V Kendrick. That's why the Heart Part 6 failed so badly, because Drake was forced into rushing out a Kendrick-focused response and it didn't land. But hindsight is 20/20, I read in a book once it's not about what you should've done or should've known when you lost a battle, it's about having not cultivated enough of a mindset of a general that can react to the rapidly shifting facts on the ground with clarity.
IMO it's because this one did not age well at all in regards to the actual beef. Kendrick pretty much countered everything he said in the song, and half of it isnt even about Kendrick. It's a surface level song where you'll catch pretty much everything on the first listen. Wheras Euphoria, going back and listening now, Kendrick pretty much laid out exactly how the whole battle went and even how Drake was going to be acting after the battle was over
I think its also because people keep remixing Euphoria with different song beats, hell, one recently even used the same tempo 3 layer beat drake used in FM but it starts with last beat first and goes in backwards order than we heard in the original song. Thats also a part of it too as those songs as mashups are getting mad numbers too.
Drake may be bigger, Kendrick is better. He COULD make tracks like Not Like Us more often, but he doesn't. Also Euphoria is having the aged wine effect where all of the disses and multiple meanings are making more sense.
Family Matters, and honestly every Drake song from this battle has objectively aged poorly more and more with each passing day. I genuinely only thought Family Matters was good the night of its release. It lacks focus, it has questionable lyrics that backfired, and it was simply upstaged.
The Kendrick meat riding by HY has gotten ridiculous at this point. Calling it a flop that needs to be dissected 🤣🤣🤣 this has to be satire at this point right? 🧐
I'm indifferent to what you may or may not like, but if you understand music, then you can't say Family Matters is better than Euphoria. In years to come, people will listen to EUPHORIA as a classic, irregardless of why it was made.
icl I think Drake did his thing on Push Ups and Family Matters and I'm glad we got to hear him actually rapping his ass off again, but Kendrick's moves *are* what needs to be studied, this man literally dropped a diss song half an hour after drake and just the shock value of the song being disrespectful was enough to instantly kill the hype Family Matters was about to build up
I think that YOU think Family Matters is the better song, but your own evidence doesn’t support that take. Family matters is definitely not a better song better than euphoria. I’ve heard it and it was good for a Drake song. But Euphoria was just good. Music and lyrics. Plus people don’t like siding with losers, and Drake lost.
As a a person who has not been listening to Drake, that song sounds like all of his other songs to me it’s kinda like how Taylor Swift songs all sound the same to me no offense to any Taylor Swift fans, but I just can’t tell a difference between her songs and I cannot tell the difference between Drake songs. It’s just pop music to me which is fine, I like pop music, but if you’re a pop artist, just be a pop artist don’t pretend to be a rapper or a metalhead or something just be who you are. He does really well with his pop music, people love it, so just do that. I don’t see the problem. Oh, and I guess my answer is euphoria is just a better song. Even if you don’t like the slow intro as soon as that’s over it’s an absolute banger. It’s just a better song all around. Drake is always going to be corny to a certain amount of people, me included. It doesn’t matter what he says how he says it. It’s just not authentic to me whatsoever.
I think its cause of the PDF allegations man. It has sort of made it a stigma to listen to Drake’s music, people think youre weird. At least publicly, and maybe the Family Matters diss track sort of reminds people of that. As opposed to a regular Drake song.
People do not think you’re weird for listening to drake… people think you are weird for supporting a PDFile… ANY PDFile, once finding out some of R Kelly’s music is about the young girls he was assaulting, I can not listen to those lyrics the same way. For example with drake? At the end of “Rich baby daddy” in the slow part of the song near the end he sings “you ain’t even know how to suck it right, I taught you right”… drake is approaching 40, what women are you sleeping with who don’t know how to have sex at this point? Unless the main “women” you frequent with are young and inexperienced 🤔
@@kaiyondoyes I am, your statement as it stands make it seems like it’s a stigma on just drake when NO that’s the fundamental problem with people, it’s not the particular person it applies to a whole demographic of people who fall under the PDFile umbrella. People aren’t listening to drake just because he got called a PDFile… when you actually listen to some of the lyrics and Kendrick brought some of the context to the fore front… now people can’t ignore it and those are two different things. If I sat here and called Kendrick or if drake tried to call Kendrick a PDFile people would not have that same stigma cause there’s absolutely no context for it unlike drake…
I meant hey it’s good response, but it’s a decent diss. I love the beats on the diss. I listen to it for fun, but it carries no weight now. Sadly, that was his red button. he was hoping he would win with that diss. After that diss dropped, he had nothing else to say to Kendrick. He wasn’t gonna win in the long run. People really thought Kendrick was cooked after that…. NOPE.
The problem is that Family matters is purely a hip hop song. His Pop fans can't relate, he's not talking about broken hearts and him and Nico on a yatch somewhere. So it has no real replay value to some of his audience. The purist rap fans, have all flocked to Euphoria, i say rap not hip hop. Then in between the hip hop fans also there's a split for either song. The pop fans have stayed out of this one
Comparing euphoria to family matters, fm has much weaker bars and not as energetic as euphoria. You said euphoria takes a minute to get into it but that’s where I disagree, music is music. Kendrick’s energy level goes from low and peaceful to intense and high energy on euphoria which makes the song more replayable. Not to mention all the bars and fun quotables. Drake simply got out hiphop’d here.
Euphoria is the best song in the beef in my opinion and family matters is very underrated but not like us. It’s a dance track low-key so that’s why it’s still in the top five if u ask me. Mind u I’m from atl but the song had me crip walking 😂
Quoting The Heart Pt. 6, Drake himself seems to have gracefully bow out, and so his fans are also bowing out. I personally like Family Matters a whole lot (and I'm not a Drake fan). Meanwhile, K Dot's fans can chain listen to all of his records daily, and also K Dot has obviously not bowed out at all. The fans follow the vibe of the artist.
its not just kendrick fans, its drake haters. and theres a lotta overlap but theres definitely people listening who just fckin hate drake and don’t usually listen to kendrick
Yo, man. If you’re gonna tell the story, please include the facts. ‘Meet the Grahams’ dropped 15-20 minutes AFTER ‘Family Matters’. In addition, ‘6:16 in LA’ never released on DSPs. Or, at the very least, OFFICIALLY.
It’s the best song of the beef. People just listened to meet the grahams which didn’t even directly address anything he said in FM. He had it on ice and just waited for Drake to drop for shock value. Also, most meat riders just ignored the whole song, because most people nowadays are sheep and just follow the herd.
💀did you even listen to the lyrics? Calling someone pedophile and questioning how black they are is the ultimate reach when you really got nothing else to say. Rapping full verses about a fake daughter? How is that even credible? “Ovhoe”, “69god” “hey Drake I heard you like em young, you better not ever go to cell block 1” That shit doesn’t even sound good.
It’s definitely the radio play, out here in Cali every rap station legit plays euphoria or not like us at least 10 times an hour also the songs are being pushed more in these streaming services. Lol I get a not like us recommendation when I’m bumping house music😂
A good amount of Drake fans are just pop trend hoppers so when Kendrick was the trend they followed him. Drake loyals aren’t the majority of his fans unlike Kendrick. Also the chess moves Kendrick did helped too
I play Euphoria every morning over the past few weeks. It's a work of art art BBL Drizzy should have taken heed. FM do like his flow on the second beat. As seen mentioned Get him a Grammy right now most stand out bar!
Was 'Family Matters' really a good song or were the 3 beats in it just hot? I haven't played 'Push-Ups' or 'Family Matters' as often as I played 'Euphoria' and 'Not Like Us'.
I don’t lean one way or the other I love both of em, I love Kendrick’s lyricism and the fact that I have to really listen to what he’s saying and Drake’s melodies. I’m the type of rap fan that could listen to Kendrick or Biggie Smalls one day then listen to Playboi Carti or Lil Keed the next day. But out of this entire beef I find myself listening to Euphoria the most, love the bars and everything about it, but I’m kinda with you, it’s not a song for the masses but it’s performing like one.
Euphoria>Push-Ups. 6;16 in L.A.> TaylorMade. Meet The Graham's>Family Matters. Not Like Us>💔 part 6. Euphoria is the best because he predicted everything.!🐐
I did not like family matters when it dropped not even because Kendrick dropped right after song just didn’t hit for me. Now la month into the future have grown to appreciate family matters and I think it has to be the second best song out of the beef. I believe drake should have separated them into 3 songs and dropped over the course of a week to keep it going, it’s like when a series puts out all the episodes for a season out at the same time. I truly believe drake thought he had to respond with a long song because Kendrick did, which ultimately was his downfall. Imagine he just dropped the first off of family matters then Kendrick dropped, then drake dropped the last part of euphoria, that shit would hit like crack. Ultimately this was a game of chess that drake lost
If you are keeping up with creators making content about the aftermath its easy to say that many casual drake fans, females, and some die hards are riding for kendrick over drake, the demographic drake once had has now been handed to kendrick
@@jassyokayy it was petty but I think it’s chuckle-worthy… like “ooh Kenny everyone thinks you’re such an ar-teest” kinda mocking. we all know Drizzy would be totally cool catching up to Kdots Grammy count.
I think a big part of that is because meet the grahams was dropped a few minutes after family matter which gave listener no time to enjoy the song and left people only thinking about meet the grahams
Along with how venomous Meet The Grahams started and just made people feel uneasy, like a horror movie in audio form. Drake makes music just to dance to, while Kendrick makes music for you to feel and dissect.
In retrospect when you go through every drake bar from any of the diss tracks, its very easy to disprove them all which leads to low replay value on top of the bars not deep enough for dissecting.
I think that's another good point. So much of the song relies on being a good diss, not just a great sounding song, It's a great sounding song, but I don't believe him on a lot of different lines. Either that or he just had harder disses for other people in the beef and then he had for Kendrick
@@xero0015i agree, not to mention how deep kendricks songs are, its causing many new people to go through his music. On the other hand it seems like many people have indeed stopped messing with drake and looking at his entire catalog sideways
THANK YOU! If people are just HEARING family matters and the beat. I don't think they're actually listening to the lyrics. Nothing in that song, towards Kendrick, makes sense. The lyrics didn't age well.
Strongly disagree. You can make that argument for the final diss, but a lot of what Drake said in family matters was facts. The difference is, no one cares about anything that could tarnish Kenny’s image. People chose him as the winner before this beef even began
The best part of the song is him dissing side characters. The parts where he's dissing Kendrick are lackluster, the beats are better than the lyrics tbh.
People dont appreciate beefs like that anymore. beat switches, witty bars, good beats and a 7 min exposal, back then it would have slapped. Now Just call the other person names on a catchy beat and call it a day

The song is 7 minutes long and in the first beat switch he just flows without a melody, that doesn't appeal to his pop audience
Euphoria had the best bars
And best adlibs! 🙌🏾
The bars are catchy and funny
3 things:
Its kinda taboo to like FM, as the overall takeaway is Drake lost the beef; who's gonna rep a "loser" anthem.
You gassing it too much it ain't that fire and compared to Kendricks disses it's no where near

And this song doesnt have a good space in public.
The 3 different beats that dont blend together
None of it is bad but the strong/great part is the end.
Eurphia has a more consisent beat tone it plays better
I reject the notion that Family Matters is a good song.
It's a good song
Just not a good diss
It's a good song, I'd even argue that it's a good diss considering he absolutely roasted Rocky. Just not up to par with what Kendrick had under his sleeves.
it’s not “cool” to listen to the diss track of the guy who lost the beef
EXACTLY hip hop fans are a hivemind.
6:16 in LA was never on Billboard Because it was exclusively on Instagram
Meet the Grahams came out within an hour of Family Matters. The vid says Not like us did...
You mean meet the grahams in a lot of places
This video made me realize he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Euphoria is the best song of the beef. It’s layered and well thought out, Family Matters just has a good beat but no substance
IMO it's because this one did not age well at all in regards to the actual beef. Kendrick pretty much countered everything he said in the song, and half of it isnt even about Kendrick. It's a surface level song where you'll catch pretty much everything on the first listen. Wheras Euphoria, going back and listening now, Kendrick pretty much laid out exactly how the whole battle went and even how Drake was going to be acting after the battle was over
3:16 “same hour” is crazy, wild that it happened like that 😂😂
I think its also because people keep remixing Euphoria with different song beats, hell, one recently even used the same tempo 3 layer beat drake used in FM but it starts with last beat first and goes in backwards order than we heard in the original song. Thats also a part of it too as those songs as mashups are getting mad numbers too.
As a Drake stan, I think euphoria is the best song to come out of the beef. Not playing family matters as much so you right
Euphoria and family matters have replay value out the wazzo for me
Even with Drake saying yg 😂
@@ql5481 I’m a civilian 😂 that ain’t got nothing to do with me

@@myra-yves yes I fast forward to that line specifically actually
Goof
Track so forgettable that he’s mixing it up with family ties 😭
In years to come, people will listen to EUPHORIA as a classic, irregardless of why it was made.
icl I think Drake did his thing on Push Ups and Family Matters and I'm glad we got to hear him actually rapping his ass off again, but Kendrick's moves *are* what needs to be studied, this man literally dropped a diss song half an hour after drake and just the shock value of the song being disrespectful was enough to instantly kill the hype Family Matters was about to build up
People said it's the most lyrical song in the battle . Lmao. They must be on that ABC shit , hard
Drake has more fans but half of them are young girls around the world who are listening to Hotline Bling etc...
Family Matters is literally the best song we got out of this beef.
@@loreliz4 youre really not saying anything i didnt say.
NOPE.
Kung Fu Kenny stays ready so he don’t have to get ready. Drake don’t know nothing about that.
It’s almost like people (gasp) listened to the WORDS. Unreal.
Honestly Kendrick fans like myself are probably what keep family matters relevant. I literally only play it just to hear how badly it’s aged
4:53 bro just straight up forgot meet the grams
Euphoria is 100x better than family matters. 6:16 in LA is heavily underrated. He really broke Drake down throughout the entire song.
I listened to family matters only twice. I listen to 6:16, euphoria, and not like us every other day only Kendrick songs I listen to 😂
Euphoria was just better than family matters because he pretty much predicted everything Drake said on family matters
its not just kendrick fans, its drake haters. and theres a lotta overlap but theres definitely people listening who just fckin hate drake and don’t usually listen to kendrick
Family matters ain’t better than any of Kendrick’s disses 😂 maybe 6:16 in la , maybe , but it really is a mid song
💀did you even listen to the lyrics? Calling someone pedophile and questioning how black they are is the ultimate reach when you really got nothing else to say. Rapping full verses about a fake daughter? How is that even credible? “Ovhoe”, “69god” “hey Drake I heard you like em young, you better not ever go to cell block 1”
That shit doesn’t even sound good.
It's proof Kendrick won. Similar to politics the majority are casuals that can be easily swayed and that is likely what we are seeing.
It’s definitely the radio play, out here in Cali every rap station legit plays euphoria or not like us at least 10 times an hour also the songs are being pushed more in these streaming services. Lol I get a not like us recommendation when I’m bumping house music😂
It’s because it sounds like a leftover from For All the Dogs (2023).
family matters is NOT a better song then euphoria at all.. euphoria ages like wine family matters ages like milk
A good amount of Drake fans are just pop trend hoppers so when Kendrick was the trend they followed him. Drake loyals aren’t the majority of his fans unlike Kendrick. Also the chess moves Kendrick did helped too
This already aged well. Unlike family matters of course.
I was wondering if anyone was gonna talk ab this cause family matter was supposed to be HUGE
I play Euphoria every morning over the past few weeks. It's a work of art art BBL Drizzy should have taken heed. FM do like his flow on the second beat. As seen mentioned Get him a Grammy right now most stand out bar!
“Position 69” 😈
the fact is the track doesn't hit the same after all
Was 'Family Matters' really a good song or were the 3 beats in it just hot?
I think morally people aren’t fucking with Drake right now.
I didn't think you'd like Family Matters better than Euphoria.
Euphoria is the best song out of the beef. I've listened to it multiple times per day since its release
This guy listens to Family Matters lololol
Idk maybe because kendrick flamed his whole vibe
If you are keeping up with creators making content about the aftermath its easy to say that many casual drake fans, females, and some die hards are riding for kendrick over drake, the demographic drake once had has now been handed to kendrick
Mans so passionate about these topics he slipped a family ties in there instead of family matters 🫡
The only bar that’s sticking from FM is “someone go get him a Grammy right now” which unironically will probably happen.
Exactly!😂😂🤣🤣 and I hope Dot submits Not Like Us for Grammy nominations so he can really win one😈😈😈
and it seemed like such a petty diss like sorry kendrick is an acclaimed artist? 😭

100% it was a perfect chest move
