i was looking at your obsidian pro air and ghostglides reviews, all sad confused and unable to decide if donuts or dots are better for me (superlgide glasspad and op1 8k) and you drop this video RIGHT NOW lmao love it. think i'm gonna buy pro air dots
Excellent video, especially for those who don't want to or don't have the ressources to try different options by themselves. My personnal favorite are dots depending on the surface : - Cloth : Unusual Way Sports Magic Ice - Glass : Ghostglide Edgerunner Cyclones
Awesome video man. Have tried a lot of x-ray pad skates. From normal jades on cloths starting off and then went over to glass and started off with normal obsidians, then with wallhack obsidian pros, and then back to obsidian dots and afterwards donuts, now lately obsidian air dots and soon to be delivered obsidian air donuts. I think overall, obsidian airs are probably the best choice. Seems pretty fast at first but after broken in, a good balanced experience, which I prefer. And all these dots are used on either pulsar superglide v1 and Padsmith Purple (balanced) glass pad.
X-raypad is one of the best obtainable options for great mouse skates in either diy or oem shape skates , I don’t play with glass pads and such so I haven’t tested all X-raypad dots yet. Just the standard Jade and Obesian dots. Jade dots adhesive is weaker than the obesians, but thus far I haven’t had issues with removing old dots or loosened dots in use case. I just had the Unusual silver fox dots coming in (grey, speed and pink, more controlled). On most mice I would go dots, but for the Maya and Thorn I like the OEM shape X-raypad skates better.
My favorite skate/pad combo is the Pro Air and the Cosmic Glass V2 (solid black version currently being sold on their gg site). It's going to be hard to beat, I think... Similar control to the Kin V2 (maybe even a hair slower) but without the coating issues of the Kin and these skates are quiet and feel buttery smooth on the Wraith pad (unlike the Kin that always seemed to be randomly scratchy). After buying several "control glass pads" and half a dozen or so skates, this combo feels like a revelation. It gives me the cloth speed/control I've been looking for but all of the benefits of glass. Controlled and buttery. Edit- btw, The Black Fox skates seem pretty similar but they're so thin I'm afraid I'll bottom out with them. They're also hard to reapply because of the thinness combined with the strong adhesive makes them very easy to crease when removed. I might use them on a flat bottom mouse... But might as well stick with the Pro Airs.
11:30 could you elaborate on that? I wanted to get obsidian donuts but they're too wide for X2H mini cutouts, so I'll go for dots, but not exactly sure what qualifies as a hard/soft firmness cloth pad. I have a pretty old Zowie GSR black mousepad and I'm guessing it's hard firmness? How do you measure that?
You can measure it by pressing the flat end of a pen into your pad, if you can lightly press the pen "though" the pad it's likely X-soft, if you have to put a little more pressure it's probably a soft-base, and if you have to put even more pressure it's likely a firm base. There will be some variation from brand to brand, but that's a good way of determining the softness. Generally speaking, the G-SR pads are on the mid-soft range, so you might be able to use dots, but it'll be 50/50 depending on hand weight and grip style.
Just switched to glass pad (Hana) and tried jade air, obsidian air and silver fox. The break in is much more noticeable on glass than cloth imo. Jade air get louder after break in. Obsidian air extremely solid would be my recommendation generally but silver fox my favorite. They slow down a bit but are so damn smooth and quiet.
Great video once again! I’ve tried the regular jades in dot and donut as well as the obsidian air dots and donuts from xray. Ended up sticking with the Obsidian Air Donuts for now. They seem a good middle ground and using an Artisan zero xsoft the dots don’t seem to work the best on that surface. Xray makes some great products, I’ve used a xraypad aqua control+ black for 2ish years before getting my hands on some Artisan pads. Also got a custom ac2 pad from them that has a great custom print. Considering getting full sized Obsidian air skates if they ever release them for the Maya X. 🤘
@@mel0nFPS got the traigun for my brother who came from standart control pads and loved the speed of my glass pad but hated using it. The acpro n heavybee are for myself just to see whats up to be honest hahah and threw in a custom equinox v2 for the brother aswell just cuz it was cheap
I'd avoid using dots on a soft-pad like the zero, the Obsidian donuts will preform much better. For Dots use 4-12, and for donuts use 4-8, whatever feels best.
Haven't used the Superglides v2's myself so I cant give a comparison sadly. I will say though the SG's are likely MUCH faster due to their more flatter shaping, the Meteorites shaping is quite odd.
Are the dots wallhack sell the same as the obsidian pro? I got them along with the skypad4 without really doing e research on them and enjoy them a lot
If you want slightly more control go for the Obsidian Air Pros, for the most added go for the donut versions, just make sure they're compatible with your mouse's skate cutouts.
@ Thanks , always used full sized skates to not mess it up, will try donuts they are cheaper than full size skates. Once again thank you and keep up the good work
Hey! So there are a lot of different types of skate material and shapes, but dots in particular are very popular for glasspads, hence why they're brought up so much. Some skate types are better for glass, others for fabric, and other are well suited for both!
Hey can I use jade / jade air dots with aqua control 2 sakura mousepad? I don't know if the pad is that soft for the dots to sink in...Please do let me know if you have any idea my mouse : vgn r1 pro..(I think donuts will not fit in correctly) base thickness of pad - 4mm also If you could tell if donuts would fit in or nah
Donuts will be compatible with the pad, but I'm not sure about the mouse, measure the cutouts and see if they're wider than 9.5mm, if it is they'll fit fine, if not you'll need to use dots.
Honestly I find the skates material the least impactful part of the mouse when using cloth pads. I’ve used obsidian air pro, jade air, ghost glides, regular obsidian and they’re all to similar to pick a favorite. The form factor matters the most so I prefer donuts and full skates as they’re more stable than dots. Dots just sink too much.
Thank you for sharing this very useful information. I recently saw your review and bought a Pro Air Donut. I'm using it for a very slippery cloth pad, and it doesn't seem to stop as much as I expected. Can anyone recommend another high quality skate that has more stopping power than a Pro Air Donut?

Perfect timing for a guide like this one, since I believe that Xraypad is the go-to aftermarket mouse feet right now and in the future as well !

wow this is really useful, my favorites are superglide dots (S) and silver fox dots
Silver Fox's are goated ngl, really excited to see how the donut versions preform!
I prefer the UWS skates. The newer Black Fox's for glass but if you are using both cloth and glass I think nothing beats the Silver Fox's from UWS.

Yes! Same UHWMPE material skates, only difference between them is that the Pros are quieter due to the added later of SMPF
@mel0nFPS I'll definitely need to stock up, great product
Which ones you recommend for having more control i use hardpad
If you want slightly more control go for the Obsidian Air Pros, for the most added go for the donut versions, just make sure they're compatible with your mouse's skate cutouts.
@mel0nFPS thank you 🫡
I bought the cyclone doughnuts from ur review
Nice, how are you liking them?
Ive got OG jades currently on a cloth pad, are the newer jades air worth it or not? Ive heard its not unless your on a glasspad.
I'd just stick with the OG Jades, no sense in upgrading to the airs unless you care about better re usability or hard-pad performance.
Can I use donut skates on the Viper V3 Pro ? How many do you recommend I use ?
V3P will be fine! Anywhere from 4-8 will be fine, just make sure to remove the sensor-ring skate!

would jade dots/ obsidian air dots be okay with my soft hien soft zero soft raiden and medium type 99?
yes
Dots will be OK for the medium, might bottom out though. For soft & X-Soft pads I tend to stick to donuts as they don't bottom out!
hey mel0n i have a hyperlight on the way. do you know if donuts are compatible with it?

Get a slower mousepad or swap to glass. You will only destroy your current cloth pad faster if you try to get slower (more textured) skates.
