  • In this video you will see inside of a wind turbine generator and get a look into how wind turbine technicians grease major components like the yaw bearing, main bearing and pitch bearings. On this Siemens 2.3MW turbine we are filling the autolubers with the Hove Easy Grease V4. This grease pump is amazing for jobs like this. It is fast, reliable and easy to use.

Very cool and simple. Thank you for showing this/ 36 tubes sounds like a major hassle.

We've got a 5gal bucket pump that we're using. Takes 4 chains just to get everything up tower to pack a main bearing (two technically). This would be a lifesaver.

Have you tried it in -20°c? It isn't as fast then 😅 after winching up the grease

Pretty menial task here, the most important thing is cleanliness. It should take maybe an hour between un-packing, setting up, doing full greasing, with cleanup and flushing, then repacking. No reason to be "bullshitting" in between, either. Lots of things can be done in the meantime.

there is a story about the Tennessee Valley Authority trying to figure out why they were losing motors in nuclear power plants .
Turns out the main cause was Over-greasing !
Simple Fact - bearings should be greased (Perfectly) when the machine is manufactured . Everything done after is a mistake .
Where does 36 tubes of grease go ?
If you watch videos of wind turbines burning up - it’s because of bearing failure

That is never the reason. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Yes, it is possible to overgrease bearings, and doing so can lead to several issues. Bearings require lubrication to reduce friction, dissipate heat, and protect against corrosion and wear. However, the correct amount of grease is crucial for optimal performance. Overgreasing can cause:
Increased Friction and Heat: Excess grease in a bearing can lead to increased friction as the bearing elements must move through the excess lubricant. This can generate more heat, potentially leading to overheating, which can degrade the grease and damage the bearing.
Pressure Buildup: Overgreasing can cause excessive pressure buildup inside the bearing housing. This pressure can lead to seal failure, allowing grease to escape and contaminants to enter, which compromises the bearing's integrity and lubrication.
Grease Deterioration: The excessive heat from overgreasing can accelerate the deterioration or oxidation of the grease, reducing its effectiveness as a lubricant.
Energy Loss: Bearings with too much grease require more energy to rotate, which can lead to higher energy consumption in machinery and equipment.
Contamination: When seals fail due to overpressurization, it not only allows grease to leak out but also permits dirt, dust, and other contaminants to enter the bearing environment, further reducing the lifespan of the bearing.@@rossmoody7744

Well good thing that the system the guy is filling is just a hopper for an auto-lube system, so no need to worry.
