People often ask too why they are constipated after hysterectomy “The anesthesia used during your hysterectomy also paralyzes your bowel movement. Your bowel movements become irregular due to it recovering from the anesthesia. Cramping, constipation, and irregular bowel movement are all common for women to experience after their procedure” if you must get a hysterectomy maybe clean yourself out a few days before so not much builds up …. It’s crazy they say not to push after a hysterectomy then the actual operation causes constipation … clean yourself out prior like a few days then after the surgery eat light and high fiber foods only ! And drink plenty of water :) and walk when you can without pushing yourself :) don’t stay in bed ! Walk slow but move
I had 2 surgeries, one in 2021 and my most recent one this past August. My doctor recommended taking a stool softener after my first surgery because the opioid pain killers can cause constipation and I didn't listen. Guess who didn't poop for 5 days??? This recent surgery I listened to my doc and took a stool softener right after I got home from surgery and took one serving each day while I took pain peds. I pooped pretty much on schedule my day after surgery and every day while I was on pain killers. I also ate lots of salads and veggies and fruit the week leading up to the surgery.
Getting a hysterectomy was the best thing i did two months ago. I had been dealing with fibroids for years in my uterus. then they had found cancer in my uterus, so i had to get the surgery asap. No more cycles 💃🙏 and can go on with life , no more planning around it.
Did they find cancer during hysterectomy? Or before, having hysterectomy next month for fibroids come back, endometriosis & adenomyosis, so looking forward to no more bleeding 🙏… hope your healing well 💕
I am getting a hysterectomy done in February 😢 but I'm so nervous because I deal with chronic pain I dont know wht to expect I know I need to have this done I put all my trust and faith in the lord hoping I will be okay ❤ thank you for the video and information 😊
I had a vaginal hysterectomy three days ago and I’m up walking and know now that it was the beat thing I could’ve ever done. I also suffer from pain (fibromyalgia) but I feel good and pain is minimal. Just waiting to poop! Overall, great recovery plus the bonus is I look like I had lip. Because my stomach has disappeared!!!😊
I HAD THE SAME SURGERY 5 WEEKS AGO , BUT THEY TOOK MY RIGHT OVARY AS WELL. I HAD A CYST THE SIZE OF A SMALL WATERMELON THAT HAD TO BE DRAINED TO REMOVE IT AND ALSO HAD UTERINE PROLAPSE AMONGST A SLU OF OTHER PROBLEMS. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!
I just wanted to add here a note about the post operation shoulder and back pain. The main reason that happens after surgery are small air bubbles inside left over (especially from laparoscopic) as they sit right under the diaphragm until reabsorbed into body. The irritated diaphragm has referred pain, usually to the right shoulder. This is what the doctors told me after my surgery.
Same here my cervix tubes utreas got removed. It was pre cancer stage cervical. Hope I get better soon and wish luck to rest of the women. Keep hope be positive
I just had my hysterectomy 4 days ago. Lap minimal invasive. I was in the hospital for only a few hours. It was very fast and I had a great doctor. I had bleeding non stop for 6years so I definitely understand where your coming from
Thank you! Because of your story, I am going to call my doctor to schedule one. He offered me one a few months back and I have been terrified of going forward, but I can't live like this anymore. I am also 49 years old. He would also do it laparoscopically. My symptoms are exactly like you! And I was told it's like I am four to 5 months pregnant. I thought I was getting fat on my lower belly, but it's literally just my uterus. It's pushing on all my organs and causing so much pain and so many different symptoms. I chronically have anemia, and sometimes that gets so bad it causes tachycardia and heart palpitations which last for days until I can get enough iron back into me. I can't keep a train of thought due to the anemia most of the time and other times I am too dizzy to drive, clean, work, or even go outside. I have always been very active, but this is turning into a ripple effect.
Wow! Sending you a very big hug. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm so honoured that my videos can help you. It's a personal decision that you have to weigh up. Like you I struggled for so long hoping that I could manage it. I can't believe how much better I feel now about 1.5 years later so I very much hope the same for you. xoxo
I had my abdominal hysterectomy days ago!❤️ came out with very little pain. Pain level was about a 3 but the nausea I felt the full affect. After resting I was awake, still very little pain so I was encouraged to walk. By the second day still very little pain and walking more in the morning. By 4pm my doctor was impressed at how well I was doing so they released me. I didn’t need a wheel chair I walked out of the hospital meeting my daughter. Today is my 4th day home and I’m walking more, still resting a lot but I haven’t had the need for the prescription meds I’ve just needed ibuprofen, gas ex, stool softeners and lots and lots of water. Best decision of my life! I had two huge fibroids I still have my ovaries… A month before surgery I was doing 100 squats per day I don’t know if this helped my recovery but I’m feeling wonderful!
Hi. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm sure many other ladies will find it helpful. I am about 6 months out now and wondering how I ever managed with all my fibroids so hopefully you just continue to feel better too! xo
I SECOND THIS - I am on week 2 post op from surgery, i did a load of laundry + made a delicious stew on day 5, and it realllllly set back my healing, I felt like the standing for that prolonged period of time really derailed a bit of progress. I’m still paying for it a bit today, and like I said it’s day 14.
My doc told me I would know if I did too much because I'd end up tired and sore. That may be a sign you've overdone it. Get some rest and maybe do a little less next time you get up and test how you feel. xo
I'm only 2 weeks out from surgery and I went trick-or-treating with my kids for 2 hours after week one. Huge mistake! I spent the next two days on the couch with tons of pain.
Getting it done in a month, mainly as a precaution because my hormones are still very active after menopause. I've been skeptical since it's not urgent, but sick of constant biopsies. Toy made me feel so much better ! Thank you.
First off, your video is a Godsend, thank you 🙏 I am scheduled for my hysterectomy 9/11/24. I have never experienced so much anxiety, so much so that I keep thinking maybe it's my intuition and I should cancel. (I've already cancelled 3 times) My surgeon is a master surgeon and specializes in minimally invasive single port incisions, he's performed 2 surgeries for me over 10 yrs ago and everything went great, I didn't know why am so extremely worried this time and don't know why my anxiety is so bad. Im glad I'm not alone in this.
It's normal to feel anxious! Don't be so hard on yourself for feeling that way. I hope you get some relief regardless of your decision. It's great you have a good surgeon you can trust.
Thank you for sharing, I found my self somehow like you, I'm a group fitness instructor, in the San Antonio City, and I trutly believe it is a totally recovery, I had a hysterectomy surgery leaving my ovaries, and since the time I woke up from the surgery I started drinking a lot of water my mouth was very dry, but it helped tremendously, I never had a problem with going to the bathroom nor constipation, never had back pain or gas problems, started walking at the hospital, nurses were surprised, I really never felt any pain, just having on mind will have to take it easy, I just had a big surgery, today its my 6th day, and just taking it day by day, I really feel like doing exercise allready but will rather wait until I'm realese by my Doctor, I really recommend get some research but not negative stories, they really don't mean u will go thru them, I was surprised how I'm recuperating, do ur best, trust in God, everything will be good, its my best wishes, we are strong, u are stronger then what u think you are, and remember life its beautiful, we need to be healthy for the ones we 😍 love. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I am having the same operation in 2 days for cervical cancer. I've never had an op before so I am very nervous. Your video has helped me so much. You are very brave and I wish you all the best with your future recovery xxx
Sending you a big hug. I hope your surgery goes well and helps you feel better not just physically but mentally too. Worrying about cancer would take it toll for sure. xoxo
This video is so reassuring! I have severe white coat syndrome and as excited as I am to have my quality of life back I am also TERRIFIED I won't wake up from surgery so I'm going through the rollercoaster of emotion.
Hi Mandy I was pretty scared too but after talking to my anesthesiologist about the safety of it I felt better. Maybe you can talk to your team first which could help you feel less anxious.
Melanie, thank you so much for your very helpful informative video, it was so refreshing. You look fantastic 4 weeks post surgery. I'm going to have an abdominal hysterectomy in May for v big fibroids, am nervous about the surgery but will prepare will before hand. I refuse to look at negative videos, I know every woman is different but your video was very supportive.
Hi Leah. I think that's very wise. When I had my surgery I figured there was no point listening to the negative stories because I couldn't control the outcome but I could control my mindset - at least a bit! If you have big fibroids I can only imagine you'll be so pleased. I am three months out today and I can't believe how much more energy and life I have now! I really hope yours goes well. xo
Oh my goodness I am super thrilled to find your videos. With you being into fitness they have been such a relief to watch. I have been panicking so much about my surgery in 9 days and how I will recover and when I can start training again! So its been a good insight. All your tips and advice are greatly appreciated. I am off to watch your other videos! Thank you so much :) I hope you are very well and back to full strength and thriving :)
So glad I can help! I have been told my many ladies that there's no info about weight training post surgery so I have a video planned on the topic. I'm hoping to have that out by the end of the month. Hope your surgery goes well. xo
Mel you're a bloody legend! This is such a fantastic video, and so wish there was something like this when I had my hysterectomy. Thank you for sharing and it's awesome to see you doing so well. Can't wait to catch up in person ❤
I'm amazed how I feel two days in now no pain I feel great expect uncomfortable swelling Ok I feel blessed all story's I heard of horrible experiences.
Thank you for sharing your story. I jst had my surgery 8 days ago. It was nice to hear some positive story during recovery from surgery. Thanks again and May God watch over us 🙏!
Thanks for telling your story. My surgery is in two weeks, so I'll be waiting for your nutrition tips! Glad you've done so well. You look amazing for 4 weeks out.
Hi Catherine. I hope your surgery goes really well! I had to refilm the nutrition video so I'm about a week away from it being ready. If you want my notes, you are welcome to private message me through my website or on Facebook or Instagram and I will send them to you. I am more than happy to help!
Anesthesia itself doesn't cause back pain but other videos have said that they had severe back/shoulder pain due to how they pump you full of gas when doing laproscopic style surgeries. They have advised taking anti-gas meds right after surgery. I appreciate your video. I actually started balling when you talked about crying on way to surgery. I have had 16 surgeries in my life, including pretty intense kidney surgery and c-section. But this surgery is different in that I am having my uterus removed which is emotional for me and I'm having a hard time with. I'm 45 and done having kids and bit sure why I'm crying so much. I'm having total hysterectomy done next Friday and they are going in through my c-section scar. I do not qualify for labroscopic or robotic surgery due to have several fibroids, with one the size of a cantaloupe. I too am measuring 5 months pregnant. I'm having severe pain from the fibroids and the largest is sitting on my bladder. Your video helped so much.
Hi Jill. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope this surgery is your last! I was the equivalent of 4 months pregnant and I think I was lucky I didn't wait much longer otherwise I may not have had the minimally invasive surgery either. Take time to grieve. It's really important to feel everything but then focus on all the positives. If you have big fibroids I bet your quality of life is really impacted. Hopefully it all goes well and you feel so much better and able to do so many more things. xo
I hope you had a good outcome with your procedure. I have multiple fibroids and they have told me that one is bigger than a babies head. My procedure is in three weeks and I’m pretty nervous about it. I’m here gathering information into hear other people’s stories. I hope you’re doing well and fully recovered.
@@Julie-netball Appt went well. Yes, I'm very relieved. My fibroids were growing too big and my periods were out of control. I was trying to wait it out to menopause, but realized I couldn't do another 3-4 years of my period every month with the anemia and anxiety. And a 6-month pregnant looking stomach. My period arrived 2 days (early!!) before the surgery and came down FULL BLAST as I was changing into my surgical gown. Unbelievable!! This reinforced my decision: TAKE THIS THING OUT. I'm taking plenty of time off and taking it easy, and I am happy I did it.
i have been under anesthesia for shunt surgery. lol when i finally came to, blood was gushing out my arm from the IV and the nurse was holding down so tight. i was 3 at the time. i am 38 now awaiting hys surgery. happy to have no more periods earlier than old age!
What an awesome video Mel, great tips I wish I had seen something like this before I had had my hysterectomy very helpful. It's great to see you looking so fabulous 💕
Thanks Robyn! I watched quite a few videos in prep for my surgery and these are some of the things I wish I had heard too. So hopefully it helps others!
I am only using Tylenol and ibprofin never a pain med and because blood clots can happen up to 3 months after surgery keep moving … if you take a long ride get out and walk and move every hour or so ❤
I just had mine on 5/20, left the hospital shortly after surgery. Recovery has been pretty smooth but now I'm dealing with pain in my buttocks when I pass gas, have a bowel movement, sometimes sit, laugh and cough. Followup appointment next week
Your videos have been so informative and helpful. I haven’t seen anyone giving such clear helpful information about these topics (food, exercise). My surgery is Monday. I appreciate it!
Awww Nero (hope I spelled his name right) looks like my grancat!!! I was so happy to find a positive hysterectomy experience. I just had mine yesterday and I was just wondering whats in store for me. The horror stories had me scared, but I wanted an end to all my pain and bleeding. I feel better, so I hope to stay on that track
I just had total hysterectomy with removal of cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries 4 days ago. I was able to get up on my own also just a couple of hours after surgery. I woke up with no catheter also. I was able to fully empty bladder and it was so nice. My uterus was measuring 31 wks and was pushing into my bladder and digestive system. My first night was great but I was released next day and that was my very rough night. My ovaries were very enlarged and I was very estrogen dominant since cancer runs in my family we took them out.
I'm in my 5th week after surgery. Because of the presence of cancer, everything was removed including some lymph nodes. Because of uterus prolapsus, they also worked on my bladder. Abdominal surgery because my uterus was too big. One fibroid was the size of a lemon. Huge scar from my belly button to my pubic bone. Catheter, staples and 5 days in the hospital. Post-op is tough. I had 2 kids by natural childbirth with hospital discharge the day after delivery. For me, the hysterectomy is harder to handle.
Thanks for sharing your experience loved 🥰 it.Mine is done nearly four weeks now and recovering really well.I did my walk inside and on the driveway doing about 2500 steps most of the days.It is helpful video for who are having same operation.
I am from India 🇮🇳 yesterday i had the same surgery. I am feeling better. I have no shoulder and back pain. I had also gone to a private hospital. My surgeon is a very good one. She made me feel so comfortable. In fact, all the OT staff was making me comfortable. All the care, food, medicines were done by the hospital. I had a bowel movement the next morning. I didn't bring any pillow etc to the hospital but slept very well.
I loved this video Nero is a legend 🐱 I have 2 cats Sebastian and Jack I am day 2 out of surgery and related to some of your points The night in hospital awful Bed awful Minimal care from nurses and patients yelling out in distress The anesthetic is my problem and yesterday on arrive home I was just not myself awful down disorientated This is lessening a lot today The pain of incisions is bareable so I’ve come off pain meds as they make me anxious and bound up I am doing slow laps around the house only and bed rest Eating easy to digest food I just want to feel mentally myself again and I’m Not there yet I’m 54 so a little older than you but I related and enjoyed your video very much especially the mentions of Nero 😻
Thanks so much for your message and I'm glad Nero could provide some relief. Hope your cats give you lots of love too. Take care and I'm sure you will start feeling more like yourself soon but just be patient. xo
Im 4 weeks post op. I had a robotic hysterectomy for uterine prolapse and 14cm fibroid on my ovary. They took everything but the cervix. Im healing nicely but am still dealing with constipation. No bladder pressure after surgery until i took half a dose of miralax. Ill never touch miralax again
I had my laparoskopic hysterectomy (19/9-22) almost two weeks ago now. They arranged for me to stay overnight but I was so stubbornly insistent in going home that very same night that they discharged me. But on our way home I got extremey nauseous that I vomited heavily in the car. That I guess caused the wound by my navel to open-up which gradually caused the bleeding. I had tried to use t bandage the wound to stop the bleeding but it didn't work. Palely embarrassed by my stupidity, I called the hospital and told them what had happened and they asked me to dropped in. The operating doctor sewed the wound deeper this time. Didn't have much pain post op, however, I have this poking/tingling feeling in my private area esp when I pee. Been trying to find articles or a mention in videos whether it's normal but couldn't find any. Recovery is going smoothly well, thank good Lord for that aside of course from a minor bowel movement difficulty from time to time though I take Laximyl everyday! But all in all I am grateful to the Lord God everything seems to be fine. Thank you for the video. ❤️
You're welcome Cheryl. I am glad I stayed at least one night but after that I was definitely read to go home. Hopefully recovery goes smoothly from here for you. Take care and be patient with yourself!
How are you feeling now? I refused my docs advice and didn’t do a hysterectomy because of the problems associated with this. I read about your issue. Hope you’re feeling better.
love positive stories ! I put my operation on hold ! Literally the day before ! My biggest advice would be for people needing only the uterus removed is to only have the uterus removed. My dr said he only does total hysterectomies and said bonus you won’t ever have cervical cancer if I take both out. However I only needed / wanted the uterus out for thick lining, fibroids. If you only get the uterus out you do not need a cervical cuff ! Now a cervical cuff although rare can open regardless of the type of surgery you have robotic or by hand however by hand has stronger knots. . Please do not google pics of what it looks like when the intestines come through the vagina ! This can happen weeks month even 10 15 40 years after. It’s life threatening in many cases. Keep in mind the robotic surgeries have a weaker hold because the robotic claw knots are NOT has strong as human hand knots. So if you suffer with constipation for example you can’t ever bare down … not only weeks after but Indefinitely and even more so when elderly. A woman’s opened 40 years after and she was 85 Also a strong cough can open it too. If you have a cuff do not panic! Just be aware that if you have pain or anything odd when using the rest room or after a hard cough or anytime, go to ER asap don’t ignore it. In most cases you can’t ignore it depending on if it’s a partial tear or full. It’s rare but knowing is safer then not knowing. As the old saying goes truth is the safest place to be. Again how my dr explained to me he said think LONG and HARD before having a hysterectomy and even harder before doing a total one Vs a partial … there are 50 or more risks and this is only one of them and again risks are rare but no one told me that if I suffer with constipation that this is a real concern to be taken seriously. You will have to really watch what you eat, eat tons of fiber or take fiber pill, and never strain. If you want and can avoid this risk only do a partial and find the surgeon who does partials !! Yes you can still get cervical cancer if you leave in the cervix but you don’t take out organs that might get cancer down the road. just always have regular Pap tests. And if you must have a cuff don’t have sex or lift or push for 8 weeks and really really make it so that you avoid getting constipated or cough hard ever. Be aware of what you are doing. The point is to Be well informed. I canceled mine and am finding a board certified surgeon to just take the uterus so I can push as needed :) I hope this at least helps someone make an informed decision :) Or to know to not only be careful and easy for months but forever !
Despite what the original poster says, while prolapse is a risk it is not as common as they are trying to make it seem. Also, removing the cervix is not only a cancer prevention--I have fibroids and the uterine lining that lives on the cervix can continue to react to hormonal cues. Meaning, if you keep your cervix there is a chance of continued cramping, bleeding, and further fibroids growing. Prolapse can happen with or without vaginal cuff use, and the risk is different for every person. A strong and healthy pelvic floor and balanced diet focused on exercise and flexibility can all decrease prolapse risk.
You're so welcome. Being nervous, anxious and scared is all part of it. It's such a big thing but just know you got this and stay focused on what it means for your life going forward. I'm so happy I had mine. Thinking of you!
I just had a full hysterectomy 3 days ago. I was scared but I needed it. I was having issues and I was so weak. I feel better minimal pain and I feel alive again. The constipation and gas was the worst but I went all natural with food and it helped
Having a total hysterectomy due to granulosa cell tumors, uterus, cervix ,fallopian tubes,& both ovaries, honestly scared , praying no spread, thank you for video
@@denisemaples6519 I am also waiting for the same surgery for granulosa cell tumor. So I am in the same position as you were. How was the surgery? I am trying to stay positive as much as I can
I know I should be telling you that I’m getting the surgery right away, but I’m not getting it until February, I too have been so worried and it’s better to get it done then wait, however, as time is passed, I actually feel mentally ready to get it, and the fear has subsided, now I’m just ready to get it over with, I wish we could stay in touch so I could know how you are. I am a believer so I have that and I hope you have that as well, but not looking forward to it 😂
Happy to hear about the bowel movement thing, I was concerned about this because I have IBS -C so I'm not sure if it's going to happen at hospital! Thank you so much for this positive video!
Hi Erika. You're welcome! Make sure you also watch my video on nutrition before and after surgery because that's key for keeping your bowels moving. Take care. xo
Thank you very much for posting this and sharing your experience. I have one upcoming for similar reasons to yours and your video was very reassuring with practical tips too. I hope your continued recovery is everything you want and more! Best wishes.
Hi Lenore. Thanks for your message. If you are doing it for similar reasons, you'll be so pleased with how you feel afterwards. I'm just over 3 months post-surgery and I can't believe how much better I feel. I hope yours goes really well too. xo
I was on a liquid diet almost 3 days and had a catheter for 3 wks. I'm 5 wks post op. I had my rgt kidney removed. I still have pain my incision is 5 inches . And 4 other small holes. Make sure you get regular CT scans of all yr organs. I still have problems with my vocal chords.
Thank you so much for your video. I am schedule to do it for next month. I figured 2 months ago I am Celiac and I have asthma. I am always tired, palpitations. Hope I still can do the surgery. To much thoughts. I have been told my uterus is 5 months pregnancy size and I have 3-4 fibrosis. Hope to have my life back after surgery.
Had my hysterectomy in July .. only thing I would add is pay attention to your bowel movement after the amnesia! I ended up back in the ER a week after surgery for an impacted bowel. Absolutely the worst pain and experience I’ve been through.
@@doumkatekz yeah it means she didn't go so long it got backed up/too hard to get out on your own. Surgery is pretty common to have trouble with bm, add to that the painkillers which make it worse and then having your stomach kind of torn apart in that area and weak and I think it's probably very common with hysterectomies. I'm going to my Dr next week and hopefully getting approved. It's definitely something I'll want to have laxative type stuff on hand to combat.
I just had the same surgey. I am super bruised I look like I have been beaten. Its bad I don t know what happened I had to stay 2 days in the hospital. I did my research and thought I had the best doctor in the area. My fibroid was the size of a cantaloupe so 18 week pregnancy. . My gas us awful so bloated week out still in pain from gas. I also had a hard time going pee . Wow so glad you didnt suffer like I did. I also had to have a blood transfusions and my blood pressure dropped to 50/30. Im so disappointed!
Hi Donna. I'm so sorry to hear that. Sounds like you had a very rough time. I have heard some ladies got bloated from the gas and I wonder why some do and some don't. I was lucky as I had no negative effects from it. My recovery has gone fairly well but some setbacks so make sure you take it easy and listen to your body over the next 6 months. Hopefully things get better for you now. One thing I can say for sure is not having heavy bleeding from a big fibroid like yours will surely be a relief when it all settles. xo
@@MelanieDurette Thank you. I suef hope so. I just hope the doctor didnt damage my bowels . I'm worried about everything now. I didn't wanna have this surgey but I had no choice and it took a lot for me to give in and do it now I'm not so sure about this. 😥
@@donnayoung4289 If what you were dealing with was so bad that you had no choice then you have to trust you'll be better in the long run. I had no choice either and I completely understand how anxious you must feel. My doc said it was very rare that they would damage the bowels so hopefully you are ok. Take care of yourself. xo
I feel that getting my Total Hysterectomy was the best decision I could made! I had Infertility-PCOS-Endometrium-Cancer cells! Whenever I was on my cycle, I bleed heavily and clots but no pain! I couldn’t have pain meds due to allergic to strong pain meds, so I could have Tylenol every 4-6 hours!
Hi Tiffany. It sounds like you haven't had yours yet so I hope it goes really well. Look after yourself and be patient with your recovery. As my doctor told me - a few months after you won't believe how good you feel. It certainly has been so in my case and I hope the same for you. xo
Very helpful! Thanks for all the great info! I will be having a total hysterectory in a couple of months and this video was so encouraging and allows me to prepare!!!
Thank you for sharing your positive experience through your hysterectomy. Today was my consultation about the whole thing and here I am releasing all the tears while embracing the process. Self-Compassion is a must. 😢 I’m waiting for my surgery schedule due in 6 months or less. I’ve been through the heavy pain and suffering for a decade too. So, I’m prepping my mindset, emotions, and body while waiting. I can only look forward to feeling free from the discomfort, pain, bleeding and prevent other issues. The good news is… My OB is so empathetic, understanding, not dismissive when it comes to asking questions about the whole procedure. I’m doing my best by taking it one day at a time. Take care everyone. ❤
Thanks for being here and sharing your experience. It's great you have an emphathetic doctor. In my experience that makes all the difference. I hope it goes well and that life on the other side is so much better for you. xo ps. Be sure to check out my other hysterectomy videos because they will help with mindset.
I'm scheduled for a complete and total hysterectomy in 5 weeks, and the closer it gets the more nervous I am getting. I have endometriosis, PCOS, incredibly painful cycles and found out I have multiple uterine fibroids, one being three times the size of my uterus. I know it must be done, and my best option... so I am trying to watch as many videos and learn as many tips and tricks before and after. Do you have a list of must haves or things you would recommend post op? I am trying to make a list of items from pregnancy pillows/supplements and binders and everything in between. My husband is 9 months out from his last cancer treatment, and I want to be as independent as I can, as to not exhaust him as well. Thank you SO much for this video, I am SO glad you are doing so well, and hopefully you are thriving!
@Love Love I'm actually feeling really great! The first two weeks were rough, but not nearly as bad as I had thought I could have been. I am so thankful I watched as many UA-cam videos as I did to get myself prepared! Emotionally still an up and down struggle, but I will get there. Thank you so much for asking!
@rachelcoleman4693 SO I am doing alright... I definitely put on weight, and am struggling with my hormones and finding the happy place I need to be in. Both gynecologists I have seen since my procedure have blown my concerns and pains off, and made me feel even more worthless. I took for granted having a uterus and feeling like a woman and that I am worthy of love... it's amazing how different it feels, and how you are treated after you can no longer have children. Heartbreaking...
Myomectomy is another option depends in each individual case. They dont take out your uterus. Im in schedule with the doctor whos going to do my surgery and will ask him if I can go for Myomectomy, because I dont want my uterus remove.
Doctors always go for the less invasive procedure and this has been a huge mistake for me. It’s been almost 15 years suffering from fibroids, I had the embolizacion which help relief but it came back. Not I’m entering to menopause and had to take HRT and it is making those fibroid go back to life, I gained weight and look pregnant. Feeling bloated, swollen all over my body and incredibly anxious for food specially sweets. I would had save my best years left in good health if I would had had a good advice and get the hysterectomy done since the beginning
@@MelanieDurette 🧡💪 I have your page bookmarked for after surgery, to enroll and get the program. Out of all the ones I've seen over the years, this one feels right. Thank you for your response.
@@Caspak01 I will be happy to help get you back on your feet and feeling better than ever. Hopefully you've also watched my video about nutrition before and after surgery to help with your recovery. Take care and hopefully hear from you soon. I'll be here when you are ready. xo
I am 9 days post-op 61 years old in very good shape. Gym rat my whole life and was scared to do it. Did it because of fibroids. Can't believe I even put it off for 4 years. Don't let any of the horror stories on here scare you robotic surgery for 4 hours. Some of the fibroid wrapped around my bowel so they had a bowel surgeon come in and detach Unbeknownst to me because I was under anesthesia. Stayed in the hospital for a day and a half. Never had any great pain. Never had any horrible gas. Never had any problem. Pooping First 2 or 3 days was mildly uncomfortable. Went home with ibuprofen 800 today on my ninth day. Spent 7 hours out running Christmas errands won't do anything too heavy, but pleasantly surprised. Plus the incisions are tiny I watched a lot of horror stories on here the night before I was in a complete panic and was going to cancel it. I was so terrified I can't even believe I finally did it. It's over with and if I could go back to work tomorrow I would Lol For the record uterus fallopian tubes and cervix they kept my ovaries because I want to stay on HRT. Also it was done robotic which is definitely nowhere near as scary as it looks when you watch videos of it didn't come home with a swollen stomach. Maybe it's because I'm athletic but I happen to do well I did spend a day and half in hospital Also I put it off for 4 years for the spiritual aspect of it. Didn't want my uterus taking out. Felt that that's what made me a woman. Thankfully I came to my senses if I would have needed another 10 years that fibroid around my bowel would have been a serious surgery It was something they did not see in the MRI either
You’re a very strong woman and I pray everything went smoothly for you. I’m so worried about mine because I smoke cigarettes. It’s been hard for me to quit but I know I have to in order to get this procedure because it will save my life. 10/10/24 is the scan to see what they want to do. I’m dreading 🥹if they say I need chemotherapy including a hysterectomy.
@@LoveLove-fx9hf hi.. initially laparoscopic but as per my Drs (2 OB Surgeons), they had to cut me open because my ovaries are way bigger and I have endometriosis (but I want to keep my ovaries) so they wanted to make sure it was okay to keep it (I also said if I couldn’t, then I would let it go)…. So I was able to keep it, that’s the good thing. I am on my 2nd month now, no more menstruations but I have been ovulating i guess excluding the blood part - my Dr asked me to just observe for now but on my next visit I guess he will start giving me pills.
The way the surgery is performed makes a difference too. In America, laparoscopic used to be the norm. Now, the Davinci robot is used often which I don't agree with.
Hi Melanie, thank you so much for your video, I was suprised that your surgery didn't require a catheter. Would you be willing to share your surgeon and hospital as am going private as well but its hard to find a gynae, am going for a 2nd opinion as I wasn't happy for the first treatment plan being told a catheter is a must 😢. I'd really apprecaite it if you could help me seek help from the team that treated you.
Hey. Sorry for the delay responding. Can you private message me either through my website or Instagram? I will send it there. instagram.com/melaniedurette/
I’m having mine on July, I’m having so much anxiety and a lot of women speak of horror stories and even tho I KNOW it’s the right thing, I can’t help but feel so afraid and shamed.
Hi. I'm sorry to hear how you are feeling. Being afraid is so normal. I don't think anyone should ever feel shame about a hysterectomy. No one really understands what you are going through except other women who've been there and if it's bad enough to want a hysterectomy - then there's no shame in it. I had no choice so I decided not to listen to the horror stories and try to keep myself in a positive frame of mind. I hope your surgery goes well and you can start to feel better. xo
I have to get one on Tuesday. Any update of how your experience was and how you feel now 10 months later afterwards? Thanks in advance. I need some comfort.
@@shehasfallen132 10 Months post op hysterectomy leaving only my ovaries. I feel amazing, I'm thankful that I have not had any set backs. Intimacy feels amazing, I have SO much energy that I don't know what to do with it. I'm a bartender and student (at 29) so I'm always on the move and let me tell you that, even after a 12 hr shift I'm able to trot up and down stairs without feeling like I am dying. I was able to walk 60 miles on a vacation trip around the city of New York with ease. Not to mention...NO MORE PERIODS! It literally feels like I have a life. I only have positive things to say. The best advise I can give you is to GIVE YOUR SELF TIME! no matter how good you feel, your body is healing and its a lengthy recovery process. So please be kind to yourself. The post op wait is SO WORTH IT!
I had mine a week ago, the only problem was my blood pressure it was too low after the surgery for 4 hours, the nurse was scared for me, she was keep telling me when I ask for pain medicine, oh my God your blood pressure is so low that if I give you pain medicine I can kill you so I can't, so I stayed 4 hours with a really ugly pain until my blood pressure went up to 101 and the nurse was so happy, she said now I can give you some medicine, and until then they call my husband to come and see me to the recovery room, he was asking the nurses, whats going on with my wife, and they didn't told him anything about my blood pressure, wich I think was a mean thing to keep from him, but that was the only bad thing about my surgery, now I'm so happy and still recovering!!!
I can not thank you enough for making this video. I have been severely anemic for 4 years. I take iron pills and get iron infusions and I still suffer. I feel a partial hysterectomy is my next step. Did your hysterectomy fix your iron deficiency?
Hi Brooke. I haven't actually tested my iron but I know it's so much better because I don't have the low iron symptoms anymore. My doctor said it would take about 6 months for my levels to normalize. The reason my iron was so low was my heavy bleeding and I am so thankful for how much different I feel and not having to deal with that anymore! When you are bleeding heavy you are constantly trying to catch up your iron so I'm sure you'll feel better. xo
@@MelanieDurette Thank you for responding! Heavy periods are to blame for my low iron. It's scary to think about surgery, and like you said in the video the anxiety is real. Of course low iron makes that anxiety so much worse. It's nice to hear your positive story, it really does help with decision making. ❤️
Hi Alison. It scared me too but I have some other videos you can watch talking about life after the hysterectomy and recovery wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Take care. xo
3 weeks post op. Everything except ovaries. Feeling good besides the random gas pains! I was bleeding so heavily for months before, I was very anemic. Almost passed out many times at work, hair was shedding like crazy from low iron. Needed an iron injection after surgery. So my main issue after surgery is still being extremely tired from low red blood cells.
Thanks for the video. I am also getting the same procedure done next month. A laparoscopic total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingectomy and cystoscopy. So uterus, cervix and both tubes and something else. It's for years worth of high grade cervical dysplasia. Pre cancer. 3rd surgery. Already postmenopausal for yrs so I dont have that problem . Just starting to freak out is all.
Hi Tammy. It's hard not to freak out! Just imagine a life without all that worry about dysplasia and cancer. Hopefully this is a fresh start for you so you can put your precious energy onto other things. Take care. xo
@@MelanieDurette I'm trying to prepare for it and what all to take to the hospital for the overnight stay, and what I'll need at my side at home; and will I need gas ex and or something to make me have a bowel movement once I'm home. I got my endometrium biopsy back last week it is abnormal and now I need total hysterectomy and scheduling my surgery next Wednesday and I don't know if I will need chemo or radiation after surgery im so nervous
I’m so glad to view your vids on hysterectomy over and over to get ready for next month surgery, it can be very terrifying. I hope to have your comment on this concern, if it’s possible to have recovery in my home by myself? I’ll be resting in the hospital for 2 nights after the surgery… Doctor suggests me to have someone taking care of me at my home, unfortunately I live by myself. A friend who had hysterectomy recently commented that I can live by myself, I have to prepare things close to my bed and bathroom/toilet. Hope to also hear your comments, thank you! 🙏🏼❤️
Hi. Everyone is going to be different. I would have been ok by myself. Do lots of preparation so you don't have to move if you don't feel great. Hope it goes well. xo
Hi,I have my total hysterectomy last week.no pain ,but everyone is different. Next day after surgery am star walking little by little that help for pass gas, that is very important, you need to have everything on hand nothing on the floor you not going to be able to pick-up, next day in my house I made myself chicken soup, then rest.rest.rest. that help a lot .I cook for my even I have my husband and 2 teenager, but that help you to move you have to walk for circulation. Just full you refrigerator, Don't take anything heavy!!.underwear 2 more size over your belly. Leave staffs on the table if is necessary make yourself comfortable don't worry we are warriors, is 4 am and I can't sleep,so am reading all different experiences in this journey which is long and slow process to recovery, but we can do it. Very important water or hydration juice all over your house very important for avoid constipation. Good look. I hope everything go well.

Thank you so much for the video! I am getting mine in June next year! I am excited about it cause I have a lot of issues with mine. I am also eventually have gastric bypass as well so that will be good.
When you say clean yourself out a few days before..what do you mean? eating a clean diet?
My surgery is in 4 days. Already starting to prepare.
@@LorrainecatsGood luck beautiful
I had 2 surgeries, one in 2021 and my most recent one this past August. My doctor recommended taking a stool softener after my first surgery because the opioid pain killers can cause constipation and I didn't listen. Guess who didn't poop for 5 days???
This recent surgery I listened to my doc and took a stool softener right after I got home from surgery and took one serving each day while I took pain peds. I pooped pretty much on schedule my day after surgery and every day while I was on pain killers.
I also ate lots of salads and veggies and fruit the week leading up to the surgery.
Thanks I really appreciate you for this information. I'm considering this procedure.soon
Getting a hysterectomy was the best thing i did two months ago. I had been dealing with fibroids for years in my uterus. then they had found cancer in my uterus, so i had to get the surgery asap. No more cycles 💃🙏 and can go on with life , no more planning around it.
So happy for you. I have mine it 2 weeks.

You're so welcome. Sending you tons of positive energy. Stay focused on what it means for your quality of life post surgery. xo
Thanks! That's helpful!
Very, very helpful. I thought they had beat me up or dropped me. 😂
I had surgery less than a week ago to avoid the pain you need to rest in L position not flat out , it will improve the gas
I wonder if you could request medical massage ?

I had two huge fibroids I still have my ovaries…
A month before surgery I was doing 100 squats per day I don’t know if this helped my recovery but I’m feeling wonderful!

Did you have a partial or total
I'm sure your fitness helped
We have to wait for months to get into a doctor, then more months to get surgery scheduled.
Thank you.

Hi all, my hysterectomy is after 15 days, just wish everything goes well 🤞🤞
Anesthesia itself doesn't cause back pain but other videos have said that they had severe back/shoulder pain due to how they pump you full of gas when doing laproscopic style surgeries.
Hopefully it all goes well and you feel so much better and able to do so many more things. xo

Did you need to use estrogen HRT since they were removed? If not, how are you managing without it? Thanks!
You are so welcome. Thanks for sharing your experience. You have much to look forward to now! Be patient and gentle with yourself. xo
Thank you so much, am going next Tuesday and I’ve been looking for positive stories ❤
You're welcome. I hope it goes really well. xo
How did it go?
I am from India 🇮🇳 yesterday i had the same surgery. I am feeling better. I have no shoulder and back pain. I had also gone to a private hospital. My surgeon is a very good one. She made me feel so comfortable. In fact, all the OT staff was making me comfortable. All the care, food, medicines were done by the hospital. I had a bowel movement the next morning. I didn't bring any pillow etc to the hospital but slept very well.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Great to hear it went well and hopefully you start to feel much better soon!
I loved this video
Nero is a legend 🐱
I have 2 cats Sebastian and Jack
I am day 2 out of surgery and related to some of your points
The night in hospital awful
Bed awful
Minimal care from nurses and patients yelling out in distress
The anesthetic is my problem and yesterday on arrive home I was just not myself awful down disorientated
This is lessening a lot today
The pain of incisions is bareable so I’ve come off pain meds as they make me anxious and bound up
I am doing slow laps around the house only and bed rest
Eating easy to digest food
I just want to feel mentally myself again and I’m
Not there yet
I’m 54 so a little older than you but I related and enjoyed your video very much especially the mentions of Nero 😻
A woman’s opened 40 years after and she was 85
Also a strong cough can open it too.
I canceled mine and am finding a board certified surgeon to just take the uterus so I can push as needed :) I hope this at least helps someone make an informed decision :)
Or to know to not only be careful and easy for months but forever !
Thanks for sharing your experience. xo
Thank you
I asked surgeon about the cuff the prolapse etc and i was told that can also happen to us women whether we remove cervix or not
Despite what the original poster says, while prolapse is a risk it is not as common as they are trying to make it seem.

Sorry to hear that Bella. Thanks for sharing your experience. xo
May I ask did they provide you advice to prevent it?
Does that mean you couldn't go? ugh

One thing I can say for sure is not having heavy bleeding from a big fibroid like yours will surely be a relief when it all settles.

I can only look forward to feeling free from the discomfort, pain, bleeding and prevent other issues.
The good news is…

How are you feeling?
@Love Love I'm actually feeling really great! The first two weeks were rough, but not nearly as bad as I had thought I could have been. I am so thankful I watched as many UA-cam videos as I did to get myself prepared! Emotionally still an up and down struggle, but I will get there. Thank you so much for asking!
How are you doing? Have you experienced any body changes or weight gain since your hysterectomy?

You're welcome. Hope your recovery goes well!
Pooping
First 2 or 3 days was mildly uncomfortable. Went home with ibuprofen 800 today on my ninth day. Spent 7 hours out running Christmas errands
won't do anything too heavy, but pleasantly surprised. Plus the incisions are tiny
I watched a lot of horror stories on here the night before I was in a complete panic and was going to cancel it. I was so terrified I can't even believe I finally did it. It's over with and if I could go back to work tomorrow I would
Lol
For the record uterus fallopian tubes and cervix they kept my ovaries because I want to stay on HRT. Also it was done robotic which is definitely nowhere near as scary as it looks when you watch videos of it didn't come home with a swollen stomach. Maybe it's because I'm athletic but I happen to do well
I did spend a day and half in hospital
Also I put it off for 4 years for the spiritual aspect of it. Didn't want my uterus taking out. Felt that that's what made me a woman. Thankfully I came to my senses if I would have needed another 10 years that fibroid around my bowel would have been a serious surgery
It was something they did not see in the MRI either
I'm scheduled for my surgery 7/10/24 bit scared but optimistic
You’re a very strong woman and I pray everything went smoothly for you. I’m so worried about mine because I smoke cigarettes. It’s been hard for me to quit but I know I have to in order to get this procedure because it will save my life. 10/10/24 is the scan to see what they want to do. I’m dreading 🥹if they say I need chemotherapy including a hysterectomy.
I had my Total Hysterectomy last 2.10.23..well I can say I did pretty great but compared to yours.. your procedure and experience is way way better.
Hi Jean. I was very lucky! I'm glad yours went well though and hopefully you can start feel better soon.
@@MelanieDurette thanks and take care!
Did they remove everything including tubes, cervix and ovaries? And did you have laparoscopic robotic?
@@jeandadiz419 Thank you for sharing. ❤️ I just saw this. Did they remove cervix? How are you feeling now? Any bladder or relations issues?

Normally, the more fit you are, the better outcome. The body recovers much faster & better if you have a lifestyle of healthy eating & exercise.
That sounds scary! I'm glad it all worked out and hopefully you can start recovering now and feel better. xo
@@ochun2005 Hi Maria, thank you so much for sharing your experience! I hope you’re feeling better everyday! 🙏🏼 Really appreciate your advice, I’m listing down what to prepare in my house and will rearrange all my stuffs at table level. Stocking up some foods for the first week. The underwear size is noted, thank you so much. 🙏🏼💙
