Where do I begin!! PHAROAH SANDERS Is my number 1 musician. I LOVE Pharoah Sanders. I been listening to Pharoah since I was a young teenager. I will be 70 in August. His music hits my soul, my spirit. When ever I’m feeling especially serious about life and love to hear you love you I listen over and over again his music, like this song. I love it. I started with Master Plan when I was young. He basically got me addicted to jazz. I almost have every one of his albums. You can’t go wrong with Pharoah Sanders. He will hit your heart and soul. I hope Pharoah reads this. He needs to know. Pharoah is a very deep man and I love his piano players too. They’re all good but when the piano player chimes in HAVE MERCY! I’m in another time zone. Pharoah and his musicians always takes me away to another place of peace, love, and joy. Diane Davis
Yes, yes, yes! To me he's the high priest of jazz. His trills cut through to some really deep place in me. His melodies and mesmerizing repetitive chord progressions with his horn playing on top of it take me somewhere so sublime. There's a sincerity and vulnerability about him and his music that moves me like none other. I hope I can be in earshot of him in heaven--if there is such a place. It will make death worthwhile.
I'm an amateur tenor player, having formerly played clarinet and alto. I listened to lots and lots of famous tenor players to try to figure out what this new instrument was supposed to sound like. I couldn't understand how I was supposed to play this new instrument..... Until I heard Pharoah. Then it was as clear as a bell. OH! That's how to play the tenor. It cleared up so much for me and motivated me tremendously.
I agree, even before I played, it was his voice on tenor & soprano that filled me with the depth & beauty of expression possible. His palette of colors, as well, going from fierce & outside, to sublimely beautiful and gentle, (as on Journey in Satchidananda, Astral Traveling, etc.), have stayed with me throughout the four decades of my playing. Love Pharoah...
Happy 78th birthday to Pharoah Sanders, the living Jazz legend Pharoah who possesses one of the most distinctive tenor saxophone sounds in jazz. Harmonically rich and heavy with overtones, will certainly go down in Jazz folklore as one of the true all time greats
I just decided for good I think that Pharoah Sanders is my favorite Jazz performer in this world!! And believe me I've listened and listened to just about everyone else-
I have seen him perform a couple of times in Detroit. The second time I caught him and a couple band members practicing in the alley behind Baker's Keyboard Lounge before a performance. Just thought I's throw that in there.
Those are the kinds of things that stick with you. I recall seeing Miles Davis in a small club in Detroit. He played for 45 minutes, said not a word, and then left. That was the take-away, not his playing. Detroit's music scene was fabulous though. My car was broken into when I was listening to Sun Ra...it was worth it.
thanks for posting..Thank you Mr. Pharoah Sanders. May you live longer and keep up the fine tootin'........I seen Pharoah at Bakers Keyboard Lounge when he had Lonnie Liston Smith playin' for him. It was a very small venue. I got there early so we sat up close at a small table... one of the members of the band was like playing various African instruments like the thumb piano and rattles of various and sundry sorts...In the early seventies..we was wasted..not loud>>we were kool,,,but it was an experience. music like what Pharoah plays is on the endangered species list......not the top ten. I am enjoying it..languishing ...............................
Some friends and I had the pleasure of being at a concert at U of Pennsylvania campus he walked out on stage playing this composition beautiful! In the 70's!
This really is where I get off and stay off. Totally awesome and mind and soul blowing. Really is the essence of all good and so so so everlasting...........Magical and Mystical and man I cant hate anyone or have a bad word for anyone when listening to this.
I agree, as you will see in my post this evening. Long Live Pharoah!! :-) I am looking to buy tickets tickets to see him at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz, CA Sept.21st 2017. It looks like he will also be performing in S.F. 9/22/17, maybe I can get tickets to that venue????

My experience with him exactly. I have seen him about 25 times live in New York.......some gigs were the best I have ever been a part of.

Heaven would be quite dull without him, wouldn't it?

tenor must sound like rusty copper and Pharoah Sanders play like this way. Master :)
