    Hey Andy.
    Great review of this one mate! 👏 Really interesting to see what people were doing back then. Fascinating listening to you recite the enclosed letter from the couple that were producing these kits. Shows how far we've come...... or does it! It does look pretty decent to be honest. Really enjoyed this one anyway mate, thanks very much! 😁👍
    Closing in on 3k too! 👌👊
    Be seeing you.....

      Thanks Bobby TBH i hadn't even glanced at the enclosed documentation until i decided to do this last night, what an absolute GEM. the 3k subscribers, now this is a hard one to explain and its great considering i started this channel as kind of a joke that i was telling to myself PMSL, however what i have to accept and fully realise from looking at supplied the Y/T analytics is that a lot of these are redundant subscribers, i have another Y/T personal account that is subscribed to hundreds of channels and i haven't used it in months, its kind of a semi-false gauge of success, similar sometimes to views which eg the vid i did on my box of 20 year old built kits, is at 50000+ views my biggest success, yet viewer retention (its a long vid LOL) is about 14% well below the Y/T preferred 33% and my average of +/- 30% but it put £77 in my pocket so its still a success if you consider the financial side, hmmmmmm. I'm kinda grounded about the whole thing "it is what it is? LOL" and am happy plodding along with my hobby within a hobby and my 10 year plan. TBH the best part is the engagement with viewers which i find enjoyable and i reckon that is part of the motivation to keep on and on, but even that has it flip side LOL. anyhoo the Wirraway is on its way, be seeing you.

    The first plane I ever flew on was a Dragon Rapide back in the mid '60's at what was then Elmdon Aerodrome, now Birmingham International Airport. I f I remember correctly my Father paid 6/- (30p) for the two of us for a 30 minute flight. Good luck with this kit!

      hello there @nigelpickett2471and thanks for watching, i think i fair dose of luck will be needed; bet that flight was rather enjoyable/noisy/nauseating? cheers no plans to build it any time soon but one day it will have some glue and paint thrown in its general direction. be seeing you.

    The problem with assessing whether old kits are any good is that you cannot be absolutely sure until you build them. Some turn out really well with plenty of TLC while others that look pretty reasonable at first glance prove to be real horrors. Best wishes.

      @TheNoviceModeller  2 дні тому

    Andy, as Monty Python would say and now for something totally different, actually I kind of like it, very unusual but challenging the creativity. Aircraft wise, this one put de Havilland on the map for the major manufactuer in the UK. Quite good performance Its a nice find. You can find Profile on e bay I think. Cheers Bob

    Hi Andy. These sort of kits come under the heading " Just walk away". Or "No don't. Really , NO". I think that Heller and Airfix both did a Dragon Rapide from a similar vintage. I kno that there was a four engined version of this plane and I am pretty sure that it was the Dominie. Don't quote me on that though. The one thing that I noticed with this kit is how thick the rudder was when you put them together. You will definately have to sand them down to get a more representative rudder. I have seen kits that have clear fuselages before and I can understand their thinking on this. But it just seems like more hard work to me. I mean if you can melt clear plastic then you can melt normal plastic. I think that the real reason was that they did not want to produce a seperate clear plastic sprue to keep the costs down. I think that you should have a big box and put all of these dodgy kits in them. Then when you really want to punish yourself for some misdemeanour then close your eyes and pull one out and then force yourself to build it. For me the Sauvage is the worst of all purely because its an ugly plane and an awful kit , its that hideous fluorescent green one isn't it ? Then the PZL 23 simply for its box art. Was that the one that the guy gave you more than you ordered just so he could get rid of them ? Some would say that you are a sucker for punishment , I would suggest that you go see an optician. They are entertainingly good though. Do your self a favour Andy , just don't in future. Even if its for your own sanity. Well done mate. Good luck bud.

      Hi Brian, i was talking to John Stone aka Jays model kits yesterday and he told me an interesting story about how Airfix copied Jays "the Last" Spitfire that he originally produced, this Veeday was originally produced i think prior to Heller Airfix decided to do it probs because they thought it wasn't worth the bother, then apparently Veeday saw minor success and the big boys moved in and made their own tooling, i am just theorizing though. regarding the clear plastic i reckon Veedays cheap and cheerful machine wasnt good enough to produce the very thin struts between the glazed panels, they look very thin and fragile in real life and doing the whole thing in clear plastic was the only way, again just a thought, also noticed how thick the tail was, inded it may need finessinng with the Black & Decker, yes the PZL was that guy and he still has stock and many other vintage Polish kits that i have been umming and arghhing over for some time, so maybe PMSL. and yes the Sauvage was that ugly thing, i want to build that in the spring so i can mess around with the resin outside, not too sure about the dust inside. not sure whether you have seen it but check this one out from a while back its just a FROG kit in a Soviet box but eventually at some point its going to get painted as per the box LOL.

    Have you tried any Panda kits from New Zealand? They were around in the 70's and 80's. Fairly basic kits that were mostly reboxes of some Japanese kits. My first ever kit was a Panda P51-D that I got when I was 8. I built it in a couple of hours. What a mess that was.

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  2 дні тому

      Hello there @davidorr6627 and thanks for watching. not heard of "Panda" though thats not a surprise LOL, just had a nose on ebay for "Panda 1/72" and i get zero hits so assume they are kinda harder than hard to find.

    • @davidorr6627
      @davidorr6627 2 дні тому +1

      @TheNoviceModeller I doubt if there would be many Panda kits around these days, but considering how many of those Ventura kits you've got, maybe they are lurking in a stash somewhere. I don't remember seeing any of those Ventura and other garage kits in my local shops back in the 70's and 80's. Max's Models UA-cam channel has done a video about Panda kits (it might have been part of a larger one with multiple manufacturers). He has done quite a few videos about the history of kit manufacturers, including Airfix, Revell, Aurora, Monogram and many more. Well worth watching. I don't think he's done one that includes these weird and wonderful garage kits though. I presume Ventura are the people who still make decals in New Zealand. They do a lot of NZ/Oz specific decals.

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  2 дні тому

      @davidorr6627 yes i am sure there is a Panda kit knocking around somewhere, i might try keep my eye out. I will try check out Max's Models for the vids you mentioned also. TBH i think Ventura's may have been mail order out of mags, not 100% sure though. Ventura was originally started by a fella called Malcolm Laird, he sold the moulds and home built injection Moulding machine that he produced kits from in his garage (hence the name "garage kits") to Jays Model kits who now produce them, rebranded as Jays, but Malcolm Laird still produces decals under the Ventura brand, not sure whether you have seen it, but the vid i did a few days ago covers a bunch of this stuff. link below.

      @TheNoviceModellerJust watched your other video. I see the Ventura kits were produced in the 90''s, which is why I never saw them. I wasn't making any models then. Interesting that Malcolm was working for Wingnut Wings. Not sure if he's moved on to Kotare with some of the other former Wingnut Wings employees. Edit: Just checked and Malcom is at Kotare now.

    I like this series and the title is good clickbait. I totally support you using it to build your audience. But, I think you are learning that behind every one of those short run kits is one or a few guys trying in good faith to meet the demand of modelers, never overselling the merits of their products, and inevitably fading away when the mainstream kit makers noticed which of their kits was most popular and tooled their own. If we were being serious - and I know we're not - does the product of any such person deserve such approbation? I'd reserve the title for some of the turds issued (and then endlessly reissued) by the big manufacturers that had the resources to do a lot better. Lindberg, one of the companies you mentioned, would have several viable entries.

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  2 дні тому

      @windsorspitfire it is clickbait, you are totally right, though my attitude to how i use it has changed somewhat from when i originally used it back in March/April 24, i now appreciate the backstory and understand what was going on a bit more and TBH i look at these kits and see myself in the mirror looking back at me; as my channel, i think is kind of similar, as i am a novice starting from scratch with no skills producing mediocre kits, going up against the big boys, who to their credit produce near works of art out of plastic. Its totally true what you say about mainstream manufacturers pinching their ideas, John Stone aka Jays Model Kits told me an interesting story yesterday about their Spitfire XIX kit "the Last" which was pinched by Airfix. Fair point about the turds continuously reproduced by the mainstream, my review of my charity shop find, Airfix Aston Martin DB5 was pretty scathing, and deservedly so, it was a piece of crap; i understand the Airfix Airacobra which i have also is pretty poor, and having built a vintage Fiat G50 BIS which as just bee re-released i kinda know what you are talking about, i am sure i can expand the scope of this series to include the bigger kit producers, just need some recommendations as most of the other kits in this vid were exactly that, viewer recommendations.
      best regards
      andy

      @TheNoviceModeller Yes, I used to go to a modelshop in teesside, those will be over 20 years old now. My dad threw them away, much to my annoyance. But in my experience with older appliances, the ones over 25 years old last much longer then things you buy today. I've lost count the amount of things that simply fall apart for no reason. There just isn't the same quality these days, my mum hase a Kenwood mixer she's had for nearly 40 years, and it still works.
