I worked in a record shop from 1973 to 1979 and this podcast is just proustian for me.
Fearless I played at home, earlier I think, over and over because a friend lent it to me. I wasn't that keen on it but you listened to what you could scrounge/borrow in those days.

It does not bode well for the mental health of David Hepworth under quarantine when, 20 seconds into the video, he is already brandishing the glove puppet that he has no doubt argued with in private, regarding the running order of the 1969 Jazz and Blues Festival. Fortunately, the stalwart Mark Ellen; veteran witness of many a rock star meltdown is on hand to humour his friend and colleague.
Now that I only leave the house once a week, to purchase soup, yoghurt and locusts, I have fallen into the habit of listening to a CD in its entirety, prior to getting out of bed. The sun streams in through the window and it's very pleasant. This morning it was the turn of 'Second Toughest in the Infants' by Underworld, which I haven't paid much attention to since it came out. It's far mellower than I recall and one of those records that provides an encapsulating snapshot of the era when it was released. Tomorrow morning, I am going to listen to Zazu by Rosie Vela, which I believe Donald Fagan and Walter Becker had a guiding hand in making.
I think the weather needs to get warmer to listen to 'Zazu'.
After listening to it the other month I thought ( to coin a magazine feature title), 'Whatever happened to..?' The result was 'quite interesting'. Her hair wasn't as luscious as before; Timotei's formula has changed. Cheers.
There's a lady named Freda Kelly who was Brian Epstein's secretary during those heady days and ran the Beatles Fan club from 1962 to 1971. Freda knew the lads and their families and was lovingly in their inner circle. She classily remained mostly anonymous, up until 6 years ago, when a wonderful movie called "Good Ol' Freda" was made about her. Freda is a class act, still living in Liverpool to this day. When many around her were writing tell all books, she remained quiet and steadfastly loyal to her friends. She only made the film for her family, who for the most part had no clue about her previous life as part of The Beatles organisation. Even then she remained discrete about the more personal things. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.
This is the sound of our generation getting old. Love it.
Absolutely spot-on about Clapton. In guitar playing circles, that is referred to as "The Beano Album". The guitar he played, his amp; both get Beano references.

It somehow feels incongruous that David and Mark worked on Smash Hits in the 80s. Their reference to including articles about music/rock history makes sense as it was probably closer to their warm hearts
I recall a Smash Hits issue where Morrisey reviewed the singles. It was titled ....”Rubbished by Morrisey” and that’s what you got. Each and every release pulled to pieces. Hilarious.

During lockdown I seem to spend my time discovering (and enjoying) some of the least obscure Lps on the planet such as the Beano Album and Abbey Road. Your discussions are a great accompaniment.
you two need to write a book together about pop trivia i could listen to you all day just nattering.
Love this series. The friendly chatting about mutual interests and shared experiences is similar to (old) Top Gear - but minus punching people and cars, obviously.

David if you need that tape dubbing, I can do it for you, I also in the 'dayjob' work for the Beeb, and I found and dubbed the missing scott walker tapes. I wonder if your tape was from the whistle test days Mixed by Bish, I have some of those tapes that I helped retrieve and save.

Good fun video. I enjoyed it. But didn't Hank Marvin start the cult of the guitar hero? He was much more influential than Eric Clapton.

Samplers Corner, my sort of place. Got all of those, wish it went on longer. Rock Buster is a clunker though. Fill Your Head With Rock was much cooler.

Craig Brown's book is entertaining, I can't resist the subject matter, so I read most 'Beatle' books. It's full of mistakes though.
