The women/guide is so proud of her locality food. Everytime David praises the food she tend to get amused like anything. I like it when David compare it with Shanghai food and she says 'thank you'.
Hello David..noodles looks good. Nice market exploring for mask. Now to the food. Yum... great scenic view. I saw beauty thru your eyes David. Great blog.
I ate that noodle two months ago, not cheap, but really worth the money. The shrimp flavour was so strong, just like the noodle was made by shrimp rather than the wheat.
Fans from SHANGHAI . enjoy your time in suzhou.SHANGHAI's food is yummy too~LOL plus, its cute when u said suzhou dialect in "very yummy” .Both suzhou and hangzhou u will go is shanghainese be loved 2 city around shanghai. Personal I love HANGZHOU better, coz more romantic.west lake , lingyin temple, zhongtianzhu, shangtianzhu etc~anyway ,enjoy your time.
Lake Tai is one of the two biggest lakes in China. Suzhou is near the Lake Tai. East Mountain and West Mountain are two islands in the Lake Tai. Tourist places.
It’s a bit expensive to buy this bamboo handicrafts, unless you buy it in a scenic spot, you don’t need that much money in a regular store.I think 50 RMB or less.
The slurping of noodles is what they do in Japan for ramen. Totally not polite in China. This is what I found posted on reddit: Posted by /SonOfChina
Slurping noodles and soup is NOT encouraged in Chinese culture. I don't know where this myth in the West came from, that somehow slurping your soup and noodles loudly is encouraged and shows you like the food. I grew up in a typical city in a typical middle class family in China, growing up, whenever I was slurping I always always told by my parents to watch myself as it's bad table manners, as did all my friends. I never went to any place in China where people think slurping is a sign of good manners or high culture. And never in traditional Chinese culture going back 5000 years did people find slurping to be anything other than crude behavior. It IS true that more people slurped in China than in the West, that is only because China has been economically backwards in the past half century and therefore as a 'third world' country its citizens had more important things to concern about than table manners. It is NEVER encouraged you would never see even moderately educated and cultured people in China slurping their soup or noodles. Slurping is considered bad manners in China just as it is in the West.
One Chinese person posted that one reddit, and then a horde of people refuted it. I found the post you’re talking about. From the full extent of what he said, it sounds like he grew up privileged which is why he implies that only poor people do it. The rich have always tried to distinguish themselves from the poor (which has been the majority of China for centuries), in any country on earth. So if the majority of a population does it, it’s acceptable.
@@uhohhhsteven People only refuted the part about his assertion that only poor people slurp, not the fact that they don't slurp. I have heard about the impoliteness of slurping in other UA-cam videos and online - the Reddit link was just for evidence. I'm willing to admit being wrong though. From being around Chinese friends, they are definitely loud when eating, even rice. But in my personal experience, they don't slurp as a rule - e.g. the woman in this video is not slurping. However, the Japanese do slurp as a rule for ramen.
