- On 30 October 1956, Queen Elizabeth II met Marilyn Monroe at the Royal Film Performance premiere of "The Battle for the River Plate". Arriving at the Odeon in Leicester Square with her sister, Princess Margaret, the Queen shook hands with the film's stars Brigitte Bardot, Victor Mature, and Marilyn Monroe, as well as director Michael Powell. Monroe attended the premiere with her husband, acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller.

Seriously, though, Marilyn was actually a very talented natural actress. Her early films such as Don't Bother to Knock and Niagara showed how she could play against type as a psychopathic baby sitter and an adultress plotting her husband's murder.
Unfortunately she was exploited by so many. Not least "Acting coaches" the Strasbourgs who undermined her confidence and made her needy and unsure of her talent.
