I went ahead and bought the game despite the bad review lol. Maybe this is just not your niche of gameplay but it sounds like everything I like in a game. Excited to try it!
I can understand not having animal livestock, but couldn't they make it so you could tame/buy certain monsters and have them be livestock on the farm? I feel like that would've been a good solution for not having animals owning animal livestock.
It looked like something to fill the Rune Factory void for a couple seconds so I got it. If it just gets a little more meat and variety, I can see this game getting an amazing sequel or successor if the devs are still interested.

I don't know how far you got into the game or how much you looked at the craftable stuff. Yeah, I also missed a run button, but with the craftable wings it helped. There are three different qualities that increases your movement speed. 10%, 30% and lastly 50%. That made some difference. I kept switching between the 50% speed boost wings and the life steal wings. I also enjoyed the fact that I needed to bring the crafting materials myself. Sure, in the second playthrough it's a little more tedious since I only want to get the last trophies that I missed (the trophies were added to the ps4 almost 30 hours after I bought the game and I missed a lot in that time), but it's still nice that all the crops has a use and it adds to the rpg aspect. It's definitely not a farming game, though. I admit that it's not very complex or intriguing, but it was nice to just sit down and relax with it. It wasn't very long either. It only took me three days to finish the main story. I totally agree with what you said about the small areas and constant loading screens, though.
Ya, honestly, the one thing this game does well is being cute, and I know for some that can be enough given how cheap the game currently is. I was a part of the closed beta, and I sent in some feedback on the farming aspect, letting them know I felt it needed some more work. They even have an entire character sheet looking screen with attributes and crap, but it's so underwhelming when you realize you can't actually raise any of it outside of equipping different gear. I also commented on the poor inventory as well as storage. It's a shame they didn't really fix the things I brought up. I still ended up buying it anyway, cause despite its flaws, I still like it and hope to see more added to it.

Hmm… I’m still excited to see how this game will play on the switch, the farming system is definitely inspired by other well known farming sims but the combat actually reminds me a little of mmorpgs (FF14 comes to mind).
This was a helpful review and touched upon some good parts about it! I think I will still enjoy this game for what it is, going into it with lower expectations. I just want something cute, simple, and fun right now. And maybe some of these things you talked about can get updated! At least the game isn't too expensive, but combat does look fun to me.
I bought this on a whim and while there’s plenty of room for improvement, it’s a fun little game. The only challenging aspect, imo, is navigating the clunky menu in the middle of a battle (just…let us pause the game to browse the menu PLEASE) and sitting through a million loading screens. You can earn a decent amount of money selling your crops or crafting high profit recipes. I do wish we could earn EXP instead of solely relying on expensive upgrades. Maybe a quality of life improving patch is in our future? For $20, I can’t complain much. It’s not a total bait n switch, though the farming mechanics could have been integrated more thoroughly.
This looks kinda cool. It’s the farming sim for people who dont like farming sims. Mite be able to play with my kids since I can’t play animal crossing with them lol
It never occurred to me that owning farm animals in a furry game might be an issue. They might have been able to implement a capture system like in Rune Factory since you don't buy livestock. Instead, you give a favorite food to a monster that follows you back to the farm. Missed opportunity. Maybe Roots of Pacha will scratch that Stardew itch next year.
Bestyyy excellent review! Exactly how I felt. The game has its fair share of flaws and is not a life-sim (which the majority of gamers thought it was). But I still think for $20 it's worth it if someone is looking for a "mindless" RPG ✨
The combat side of things doesn't bother me. I mean, I love Stardew Valley and the combat in that is about as rudimentary as you can get. But the farming aspect is kinda disappointing. My favorite thing about farming in Stardew Valley was how versatile you could be with it.
Kinda agree. You can farm crops, but a good tip is to turn your crops into dishes for side quests or sell the dishes for even more money to upgrade your gear. I had a great loop farming corn and onions, turning corn into cooling oil and making onion rings to sell for some good earlygame coin. It’s a great min/max simulator and I had more fun than the video guy.
This game is cute, fun, and quite entertaining even though it's not super in depth. Plus, platinum trophy seems attainable for any player. Plus it's a bargain game from the start so the complains feel negligible.
Well, this saved me a few bucks sadly. I was hoping this would play more like Rune Factory (especially RF2). I hope the people who'll buy this enjoy it.
I'm a little late to the party, but enjoying it nevertheless. I am just a little curious about how much time you spent playing the game before making your review? A lof or your remarks I would agree on for the first couple of hours of the game. But a lot of the stuff you mention I feel there are solutions for. For example the oh-so-slow pace at which you are "running".. can be helped (!) by a little farming! Then you go buy yourself a pair of butterfly wings (+30 speed) and eventually banana leaf wings (+50 speed). Also you get +10 speed from drinking milk and +30 speed from eating honey, though only for a short period of time ;) Cheers!
Also you dont need to level up because you're getting resources that allows you to upgrade your gear. That's your leveling up and getting more powerful. Kind of like how you don't need to level up in BotW because you have shrines. Without a list of stats you don't need levels and that's the joy of ARPGs.
Thanks so much for this review!! I saved some money today. I was gonna buy this game today because it was couch co-op and looked really great but it's not a farming sim.
1:29 Hahaha, everyone's first day planting crops is going to look like that. "Oh, it looks like planting seeds works the same way as Harvest Moon, so one bag of seeds counts for nine plots! I'll go ahead and make nine plots then!". And then you go to plant the seeds and it FOOLS YOU. I was played like a fiddle too, don't worry.
I 100%ed the game & from the whole experience I can say that farming makes the grind easier. Simply because the best gear to get, requires a lot of money and materials. So a combination of farming crops to sell for money is way easier than going out & killing mobs for material to sell. For example, grapes, pineapples and pumpkins are by far the best crops to sell for money in KF. Another note is that the spells system is also nice and helpful. Getting the healing spell from the Wind tree plus the rock shield from the Earth tree help out tremendously. Especially if you are primarily a melee user. The best wings are the banana leaf wings with more movement speed. However, early on, those bat wings come clutch with the life steal while farming for materials to get the items mentioned above.
I feel validated. I've been trying hard to enjoy this but I just don't. Being cute is just not enough to hold my attention. And good lord, the constant pauses for screen loads!
The most under-used element they put in this game that I wish was in so many more, is the attack range (cone) indicator. Like final fantasy 14 or Dragonest this makes it so dynamic to actively dodge attacks and weave in your own. This game could have been really good with that more refined, and I really hope more games start using it. One of my favorite parts about FF14 even though it is a relatively unrelated game from a different genre.
One of the biggest complaints i read about the game was that it is too grindy. That is what grabbed my interest in the first place. And you do farm for Money, even though you have to turn your crops into meals before selling them. And there are backpack upgrades that make inventory management a bit better, even though inventory restrictions are somewhat fun to me personally as well^^
I saw this on sale on xbox store and was curious about it. Apparently the screenshots DON'T have any gameplay or useful cause I guess there isn't. Thanks for the honest review.
So you are suppose to use crops for making paw pennies. The quests after awhile putter out in regards to rewards. So sale lots of corn and grapes, then pineapple then pumpkin (last two crops are from night merchant) to get higher level items. Game is really cute, but very grindy and cobbled together balance (compared to smooth balance). So I agree with other reviews of 6/10. Lots of potential and I got pretty far so far (3/4 done), so it is still playable.
I've played rune factory, stardew valley, animal crossing, and a few others. So when I played a few hours of this one and got use to the game play I personally found it to be best played extremely casual. As in ignore the story line and you might get something done. 🤔 The story is cute and all but if you go into this with the intention of beating it. It's no fun.
@@TheGamingShelf thanks i even bought so me and my girlfriend can play it since she not really into action games but do enjoy farming. I think its simple enough for us to enjoy.
It's not weird at all. The core of the game doesn't necessitate leveling so why would it be there if it serves no purpose? To watch numbers go up that do nothing?
Played the game for the last 4 days and I love it, I sell my crops for money and it’s actually good enough for me I actually make a lot of money and I haven’t used any of it for eating yet,
Same... but I got to a point where it is forcing me to get upgraded food (like a road block). Which made me realize things are unbalanced combat vs farming wise. @_@
When I saw the trailer for it, it to me looked more like a game to sit, chill, and waste time playing. To be honest I was only getting it to play as it is; not what it looks like going into a game without any expectations (other than does this game look interesting or not) is the best way to play a game then you can enjoy it more for what is rather than what you hoped for and get let down. Also, while watching your video I noticed something; I noticed that while you were focusing on the gameplay in individual aspects (farming, combat, etc.) You weren't focusing enough on the game as a whole. I personally like games that don't focus too much on a specific genre or genres, because I feel the game then becomes unbalanced. However, I will admit, from watching your video, it does appear that it may need some minor updates to fix any problems it has, but all in all it looked very fun and appealing. Well that is all I wanted to say. I hope I didn't offend you, because that wasn't my intent. I was just trying to give some constructive criticism. Also, I am not trying to tell you how to do your videos, because I know how it feels to have people act like they know how to do something better than you when they can't. side note: It kind felt like you were ragging on the game even though you probably weren't, so again sorry if I offended you.
Nice review. I agree. Still working on crafting my first equipment. Just so slow and boring . Hope it goes faster. Hate the night and day aspect where everything closes up. I'll give it a couple more hours before I quit this game for good.
I think perhaps you were really expecting more than you should have been out of this game. i think it is adorable and a great little game to play and have fun without having to deep dive into something like a final fantasy game.
Thank you for your honest review ! I was eyeballing this game forever and almost snagged it since it's 20 on Amazon . But I wanted the leveling of an rpg, the selling crops of farming games etc and it's nice to know these are things this game doesn't have xD I fell for the trailer ! Appreciate your feedback, saved me from crying later. I look forward to watching more of your reviews ! New subscriber added lol
Thanks so much for this review. I wasn't aware that it did not include all of the Rpg elements. With that said, I still think I will give it a try. But at least I know what to expect.
Thats very sad to hear this game turned out underwhelming. I was looking for a new game to keep me busy till Tales of Arise next week, but this sadly doesn't sound like the one.
I have the exact same opinion! I am a HUGE cat lover, so seeing a cat RPG with farming in it, seemed like a perfect game for me. I found everything you mentioned to be a problem I experienced as well. I would like to add that the designs of the game feel a bit lacking to me. The map is just a plain jpeg with other jpeg files stuck ontop of it. The items being dropped is just jpeg images with a bit of a glow around it. I was hoping to be able to design the cat, but there are only like 4 presets and thats it. I really wanted to like this game, but ultimately i found it boring to play.
Hi, how can I reset the controls to default in kitaria Fables? I set the menu from (-) to B. but when I click B, the menu is not showing. How will I be able to play if I can't see my items? Please advise asap. Thanks.
Great review and I love the brutally honest opinion. I'm looking to buy this game but wasn't 100% sure what I was getting. Glade to hear it's got it's charm but sucks to know it's missing the mark on the farming and rpg parts. Now I think I'll wait for a price drop if there is one for the holiday shopping season.
I wish I had seen this review before I preordered, haha. The game feels so empty and lackluster and the amount of loading screens is driving me insane. It looks amazing and the characters are adorable, but that's just about it.
Spoiler warning: The story isn't even resolved at all. I am really salty that the ending is just "oh yeah the sage was the bad guy all along". What is with the corrupted king? What does consuming the relics accomplish? What is this nightmare that happened? Why are monsters more aggressive? Why are monsters living together with people in the ice city? Were they people before? Why does Hazel and her guardian attack you at all when she knew all along, that her grandfather wanted to consume relics for his own evil power gains to get revenge on the king? I honestly expected to get rewarded for the grind by some of these questions getting answers, but the questline just ends... Where did Alby go? What is now the plan with the relics? Why does Hazel's guardian act so sus and creepy? Did it snatch the relics after Alby was beaten? And what is with that shrine on the icy mountain? Sorry for wall of text but this really bothers me since I got invested~
Another note, Taylor, please review Baldo so I can see another video to convince me not to spend my money on it even though I love both Zelda and Studio Ghibli.
@@TheGamingShelf Yes thank you! When you explained that it wasn't overly into the farming and relationship building that's when I knew the game wasn't for me. I appreciate your no nonsense but also very informative review. 😁
SPOT on. Overall though, I'm enjoyingg the game. Reminds me of Cat Quest a bit. Laid back and fun. Just wish the UI was bigger on Switch...and that managing tools was better. But those character portraits make it all worth it! 🥺
Even with some of the comments here, this still looks charming and relaxing so I may just end up getting it anyway. Although I am biased with there being cute animal characters.
I love this game i have it on nintendo. I love the simple fighting. I hate it when games make u have to remember different buttons and techniques. Im playing to relax not to feel like im at work. Im 36 and this game isnt so simple that its boring it has a great story line and theres loads to do and it doesnt feel repetitive and i live farming it has more purpose than other games because u use it for hp or to sell. Its so peaceful and i love the quests on here and the characters. I will be the second game to this if another one is made i think its brilliant!! Its under hyped. Im addicted to it
I paid less than $5 for it on my Nintendo Switch today. It's worth it for even $10. It's a casual game for casual people. It's a game you play for a weekend or on your off days. It's not a game with a lot of depth of difficulty. You just enjoy the ride.
I think I'll just stick to Sakuna of Rice and Ruin. Clearly i haven't delved far enough into this genre yet. Not having skill growth in games still kinda bothers me ngl😅
Is it a Monster Hunter type deal? In Monster Hunter, you don't level up either. You get stronger by hunting a monster for parts, crafting stronger gear, to hunt then tougher monsters to craft even stronger gear. And that is how you progress in strength.
I pre-ordered it ages ago. When it released I was SO EAGER to play it. And I was utterly disappointed initially. Because I thought nothing was intuitive and everything was hard to do or to understand, and the day is way too short and the character walks way too slow for such a fast day, I could barely do one or two things and it was night already. There's no penality for not sleeping, just some stuff won't progress, but it is annoying. The fighting system is a mess. I died so many times that I advanced a couple of MONTHS in the game 'cause you lose a day when you die. It doesn't bother that I advanced months because I died so much, what bothers me is that if you lock your target, you'll only attack the locked target, and while you do that ALL THE OTHERS IN THE AREA will come to attack you at the same time and that is why I died. If you DON'T lock your target, then your character ends up fighting the air, while still being mobbed by all the enemies at the same time. But it grew on me. It is cute. It is interesting once I stop fuming, the storyline is engaging and intriguing. I don't think it was a waste of money but I definetely need more patience than other games to deal with this one. On the other hand my friend played the first few hours of the game without any problem at all, she didn't die even just once, so maybe I just suck at it lol.
Great video as always. I've seen the name and pictures the game cropping but never took any notice, but it looks totally different from what I expected!
I'm glad i held back on buying this. It looked interesting but I wasn't sure whether it was for me. It has ideas and tries to make itself unique, but like you've outlined with your review: The game lacks depth. For a second it seemed like it was borrowing a bit from the Monster Hunter formula but it didn't go far enough to complete the facsimile.
I was so excited for this game and is 100% disappointed me . I’ve been watching this game for a year and it was poop. I hate that the whole gameplay is basically pointless.. no level up, no real goal, and no point in farming.
I always wanted this game and it's now on sale. But seeing your review, I wouldn't even buy it on sale. This game looks like it will frustrate me. Thanks for your honest review.
It sounds like a sequel might be nice if they take criticsm to heart. The game is cute and looks fun, but even the sale price right now ($15) seems a little steep for me with so much else to play.
The Gaming Shelf That’s my thing. Be honest no matter what. Viewers really like that. I always speak my mind about games even if it’s not the popular opinion!!!
Didn't really look into this game, but kinda expected that it would be an animal-themed Stardew Valley with actually decent combat. Thanks for the review.
Actually, I never loved the notion that EVERYTHING you farm just generically gets turned into cash. I like that you farm stuff you actually use in Kitaria. However, this is a game aimed at children, and I also didn't find it very satisfying. If you decide to seriously commit to dodging every attack, the enemies really are push-overs. A game for children that is also very grindy -- this is going to miss most people.

I just want something cute, simple, and fun right now. And maybe some of these things you talked about can get updated! At least the game isn't too expensive, but combat does look fun to me.
I hope you enjoy it! 😃
Exactly my thoughts. It's a cheap game that's cute. If I want something with some depth I'll hop on my PS5.
@@PuApOoK Same here! It depends what I'm in the mood for. I love my Switch and my PS5!
@@PuApOoK a
I bought this on a whim and while there’s plenty of room for improvement, it’s a fun little game.
I expected "not what it seems" to mean it was better then it seems but I guess not. It's too bad, this could have been a really charming fun game too
I hate making negative videos like this but I also want you all to be informed so you don’t buy a game you don’t enjoy.
@@TheGamingShelf always appreciate honesty and I know you will be which is why I keep coming back! Keep up the good work man!
it is still great, don’t listen to this dude
Just by listening, it feels like you described around 70 to 80% of a monster hunter game lol
Haha true! This almost would have been better off trying to be that.
It never occurred to me that owning farm animals in a furry game might be an issue. They might have been able to implement a capture system like in Rune Factory since you don't buy livestock. Instead, you give a favorite food to a monster that follows you back to the farm. Missed opportunity. Maybe
Roots of Pacha will scratch that Stardew itch next year.
Bestyyy excellent review! Exactly how I felt. The game has its fair share of flaws and is not a life-sim (which the majority of gamers thought it was). But I still think for $20 it's worth it if someone is looking for a "mindless" RPG ✨
Thank you 😊
The combat side of things doesn't bother me.
So basically they tried to combine farming sim and RPG but without the elements that make either of those genres fun?
Yep. Silly, right?
Also you dont need to level up because you're getting resources that allows you to upgrade your gear. That's your leveling up and getting more powerful. Kind of like how you don't need to level up in BotW because you have shrines. Without a list of stats you don't need levels and that's the joy of ARPGs.
The game needs work, but a lot of it is what I wanted in Animal Crossing..which also needs work.
So Im happy I preordered this.
Thanks so much for this review!! I saved some money today. I was gonna buy this game today because it was couch co-op and looked really great but it's not a farming sim.
Happy to help. Sorry it wasn’t what you hoped it would be.
There were even some mushrooms I thought I could pick up but couldn’t lol
And there are backpack upgrades that make inventory management a bit better, even though inventory restrictions are somewhat fun to me personally as well^^
Good and constructive review. I'll buy only if they improve and update these mechanics.
Thanks Bianca-Sue!
I saw this on sale on xbox store and was curious about it. Apparently the screenshots DON'T have any gameplay or useful cause I guess there isn't. Thanks for the honest review.
Thanks for this great review! You saved me a good bit of money that I've decided to save for the RF5 PC port.
Not my cup of tea but awesome review.
I see you sooo close to 30 000. Hope you get there soon (and a lot more) as you are awesome
Thank you Devron! I’m hoping the next set of videos can push me over the edge. Especially with a certain…Tale…right around the corner 😉
@@TheGamingShelf can't wait for it!
It's a lot like potion permit. All of the upgrades are in the equipment you upgrade to.
"Watch the video to see if you want the game"
Me looking at my ps4 downloading the game: hmm to late.
Haha well I hope you have fun! 😄
@@TheGamingShelf thanks i even bought so me and my girlfriend can play it since she not really into action games but do enjoy farming. I think its simple enough for us to enjoy.
So weird that you don't level up. Thanks for the review.
I completely agree with your review, i wish i knew this before i preordered it…. Its not what i was expecting honestly disappointing
I see what you getting at and I do agree with you but for some reason I’m loving it lol
That’s awesome! Glad to hear 😃 What have you been enjoying most about it so far?
Thank you for you honest opinion. I am sure they will do better next.
Stardew Valley meets Animal Crossing meets Harvest Moon?
Game breaking bug were it randomly maps the confirm button to turn page making game unplayable as there is no longer an active confirm button.
Thank you so much for an honest review. So many get free keys to the game, so mostly their reviews are unreliable.
Allow me to suggest this video: ua-cam.com/video/his5UC5195I/v-deo.html
They’re all short JRPGs so you might be able to squeeze one in!
Thanks.
cat : "i have a barn, i'm raising sheeps"
sheep : "which ones? my cousins?"
Sword of Mana was kinda like this except for the inventory being somewhat unlimited
Better test the demo out before buying the game. In my opinion this game is really adorable. I like it.
Good to hear! I’m glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
I wish I had seen this review before I preordered, haha. The game feels so empty and lackluster and the amount of loading screens is driving me insane. It looks amazing and the characters are adorable, but that's just about it.
Spoiler warning:
The story isn't even resolved at all.
Sorry to hear that :/ Hopefully they remedy it in a sequel.
Good grief, spoilers much?
@@ViolinChick5 oh dang, very sorry. Forgot about the spoiler warning :(
I was looking forward to buying a human to be on my farm

I had the same thought😂
Another note, Taylor, please review Baldo so I can see another video to convince me not to spend my money on it even though I love both Zelda and Studio Ghibli.
Might be a while! There’s a certain…Tale…that needs telling 😉
Thank you so much for this review, you've saved me some money. Xx
You’re welcome! I always try to keep things positive but it’s also important for me to let you know when a game isn’t worth your money.
thanks for the honest reviews, keep it up!
Even with some of the comments here, this still looks charming and relaxing so I may just end up getting it anyway. Although I am biased with there being cute animal characters.
THIS GAME IS 8$ FOR DELUX ON THE SWITCH RIGHT NOW & A BUNCH OF OTHER GAMES HAVE HUGE SALES UNTIL TOMORROW
Im addicted to it
Offline?
I love farming rpgs and also love Kitaria Fables. None of the things you disliked are a problem for me tbh.
I paid less than $5 for it on my Nintendo Switch today. It's worth it for even $10. It's a casual game for casual people. It's a game you play for a weekend or on your off days. It's not a game with a lot of depth of difficulty. You just enjoy the ride.
Is it like Summon Night?
I think I'll just stick to Sakuna of Rice and Ruin. Clearly i haven't delved far enough into this genre yet. Not having skill growth in games still kinda bothers me ngl😅
Is it a Monster Hunter type deal? In Monster Hunter, you don't level up either. You get stronger by hunting a monster for parts, crafting stronger gear, to hunt then tougher monsters to craft even stronger gear. And that is how you progress in strength.
It sounds like it huh? I think they accidentally did that TBH lol.
Thank you for this review!
You’re welcome, Gabriel!
Great video as always. I've seen the name and pictures the game cropping but never took any notice, but it looks totally different from what I expected!
Me too. I wish it ended up being what everyone thought it was.
Thanks for the review. I wait for RF5
No problem 👍
I'm glad i held back on buying this. It looked interesting but I wasn't sure whether it was for me. It has ideas and tries to make itself unique, but like you've outlined with your review: The game lacks depth. For a second it seemed like it was borrowing a bit from the Monster Hunter formula but it didn't go far enough to complete the facsimile.
It definitely has aspects of Monster Hunter! But like you said, they are a bit shallow.
I was so excited for this game and is 100% disappointed me . I’ve been watching this game for a year and it was poop. I hate that the whole gameplay is basically pointless.. no level up, no real goal, and no point in farming.
To run faster you just roll
For 16€ i don't know what you were expecting.
Stardew Valley is cheaper and better. I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT good but at least somewhere close.
This looks super cute, but the cons you listed seem super bad so I'm going to pass. Thankyou for helping with your review!
You’re welcome, Aimee! Thanks for watching 😄
@@TheGamingShelf I was hoping this would be a good game for me and my kids that like Stardew Valley but maybe we should get Ni No Kuni or Rune 4
Great video! Obviously not my type of game anyway, but your points are good and I hope they help people out!
I hope so too. I don’t like being negative but being honest is more important.
The Gaming Shelf That’s my thing. Be honest no matter what. Viewers really like that. I always speak my mind about games even if it’s not the popular opinion!!!
What if there is a pets in this game? I think it's kinda weird... Having a pets...😂
Anyone know if the ps4 version comes with the ps5 version also
A farming Sim rpg top video list would be good
Great idea!
Didn't really look into this game, but kinda expected that it would be an animal-themed Stardew Valley with actually decent combat. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
The review helped me decide! Not gonna buy it. I haaaate slow characters and all of your negative points hit hard!
Glad I could help!
Glad i found this video on it, even with it being cheap im not so sure the ones i was gonna get it for will like it lol
It reminds me of Harvest Moon meets Animal Crossing with Zelda Breath of the Wilds crafting system.
This is truly for little kids. I don't see the wrong in this game.
