Having both gates the wrong way round - yes. But having them different and not realizing - not yet. We tell our beginners that the gates must bite the cox. They'll remember ;-)
the amount of times I've had to take my oar out and put it back because my gate was backwards I've done it the most out of anyone in the crew lol and I always double check but it still happens :(

This happened to me the other day and I had the exact same reaction until I realized a few minutes in that the oarlocks were backwards lol
All I can say is thank goodness for backstays, or I couldn't say that I would never do this early some morning while still half asleep.
