- Pikmin 4 is here! And I'm recording my playthrough so I can chronicle my thoughts and reactions as they happen!
This is it: the finale! I wrap up the enormous final expedition and the final area, and offer some retrospective thoughts on the completed game. There will still be supplemental episodes coming up where I narrate the troves of flavor text in this massive game, but otherwise, this is the last of our adventure through Pikmin 4!
I'd like to thank all of you for supporting and enjoying this fun endeavor and this experiment with recording gameplay and commentary. Now I'll be back to work on what I do best, What I Love videos and music, and it'll probably be a good while before I try something like this again. But I really enjoyed putting this together for you, and it's become a dedicated journal of my thoughts on the game... so suffice it to say this likely won't be the last game I'll record!

I love how Scruffy's alarm towards the sublevel with the baldy longlegs in water wasn't the fact there was a baldy longlegs in water, but instead all the wooden blocks getting soaked
31:14 Fun fact: This theme is actually randomly generated on the fly with pre-recorded instruments, just like in pikmin 2! This is the only theme in the entiee game with that proeprty to my knowledge.
Man, what a whirlwind two months this has been. This whole series has quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite lets plays ever published on youtube, easy. It’s SUCH a rare treat for any game to get a playthrough by someone with THIS level of thoughtful insight into both the technical and musical aspects of the game, not to mention your clear passion for the series that’s SO palpable every time it builds on or nods to elements of the previous trilogy or puts a new spin on the formula. You did a perfect job as host and editor of this whole thing, your running commentary is so smooth and the extra effort you put into every little editor’s note or post-production gag for the sake of the audience goes fully noticed… you are the only person who could’ve ever done this game justice. I look forward to returning to this wonderful little series you made many times in the future.

OOH that snazzy intro?? Wow, can’t believe it’s been 2 months since this series started and we’re finally at the end. This series has been such a comfort to me (love listening to it in the background while working or trying to sleep) and it’s been a blast seeing how much joy the game has brought you and all the details you notice. Thank you so much for sharing your gameplay with us!
Edit: also ALMOST THREE HOURS. Remember when we were starting with half an hour videos? Love to see it.

They went full in on Louie being an antagonist in this game, and I'm here for it.

Just for consideration. I thought that "gift of friendship" is called like this because it was given to the dog by it's friend (owner). Not because it gave it to you as a gift.
The fact that Scruffy beat the Empress Bulblax fight WITHOUT resetting shows how good his Dandori is
this playthrough was the top dog! there were some ruff moments, but you always were able to eke out victory even at the tail end!
I'm surprised most of UA-cam isn't barking mad for this series! With all these long videos, it would really give them something to chew on!
I canine deny that this series was incredible! Scruffy really threw us a bone by allowing for all of us to join in on the experience!
So the question is... is the Ancient Sirehound a remnant of Human civilization left behind or is it just a space dog brought with the Sage Leafling? I personally like the latter! Make the sage leaf way older than expected!

these past two months have been heavy on me, and i found myself going to this series as a form of comfort. i watched every episode and i always waited for the newest one. it’s honestly bittersweet to see it come to an end, but it’s been fantastic. thanks for the hours and hours of joy
Gosh, I hope we get to see more content like this in the future. This was a wonderful way to experience Pikmin 4, and your insights into the game under the hood make for excellent viewing. Your sheer delight and unfiltered enjoyment of the game is unlike anything else, and it’s like a little warm light in a very cynical world. Scruffy, after finishing this episode I can safely say that I've never seen so much love, care and detail poured into a single playthrough of any videogame, let alone one of this length. Every single small detail, jingle, impression and comment felt like it made sense and was delightful. I seriously can't thank you enough for taking us along such a ride
Ending with that Namida Ga Afureta cover is a guaranteed way to make MY tears fall down. Thank you for the awesome experience Scruffy!

I haven’t finished watching this, in fact I just started the video, but I cannot understate the amount this playthrough has helped me in so many ways. This playthrough started at the perfect time for me and it’s been helping me feel/get better as I struggle with my severe ocd. It’s been a rough few months but this playthrough always helped me feel better and gave me a reason to look forward to the coming days. I cannot thank you enough for this Scruffy :) It’s so, so, so very appreciated, by me, and by thousands of others who have followed this playthrough since the beginning. I cannot wait to see how this video turns out!
This was the best pikmin 4 series by far. The enthusiasm of Scruffy, knowledge of pikmin series and appreciation of little details made this whole series so fun to watch, even if I ended my own pikmin 4 adventure a month ago or so. Thanks for all the episodes Scruffy!

Bravo! It’s been a scary, cute and silly ride, from the furry start… to the equally furry end.
But don’t panic everyone! We might be done with the story, but we still have a bit left! A reading of the treasures, creatures and everything inbetween might SOUND small, but anything tiny to us, is giant in terms of Pikmin!

The chord progression when you're introduced to the boss at 125:50 is, to me, very reminiscent of a tune used in the classic scooby doo series, which i doubt is intentional but would be a cute way to quadruple down on the dog theming
2:30:46 - I think it's funny how, given the hypothetical rivalry between Dingo and Louie (given how Dingo can instantly KO Louie's Dandori challenges for you), there could be an entirely _other_ valid reason for that pizza going missing.
Also, the way Louie is voiced at 2:35:00 makes it sound like he _specifically_ chose that cave as the food source location out of spite. 😂
(This has been a fantastic series, Scruffy! Thank you for putting so much effort and love into it for us! It's been a gem! 💙 Can't wait for the Treasure Catalogue and Piklopedia vids! Please don't forget about Olimar and Louie's exploration logs in the menu either though!)
Hey Scruffy! I'm saving this video to watch later when I have time to fully enjoy it but I just wanted to say that this series has been one of my all time favourites on UA-cam. To be honest there's a lot of change going on in my life and I've been having trouble with my motivation and attention span, but every time you upload another episode of this I can sit and watch it and enjoy it in full. As someone who easily gets stressed out over minor things I love how meticulous and calm you've been in these videos, but I also love the clear passion you have for this franchise and how happy you sound when playing it, whether you're noticing another reference to those older games or just sitting and appreciating it's beautiful music and environments. I'm not sad that it's over, I'm just glad that it happened, and I truly hope you've had as much fun making it as I've had watching it.
It's too late now, but wild pikmin get replaced with candypop buds automatically if you have 100 pikmin when going into a cave sub-level with wild pikmin. Interesting to see someone go through cavern for a king with less to start, for sure!

I love when you pick up on song references like that, that among other aspects really makes this playthrough feel more unique than most.
43:20 I wonder if the plastic swords it drops are a reference to the 4 weapons the titan dweevil drops in pikmin 2?
44:58 this song genuinely gives me shivers, holy crud. Good thinking through the fight! No 100 pikmin drop from this progg though, very sad.
52:30 All these spectralids feel out of place without a Mamuta. There should be one (not holding a treasure) on this sub level, that'd be cute.
That empress bulblax floor is just evil. I'd do that with just Oatchi since all the armor and health upgrades and the natural healing upgrades means he could tank quite a bit, and isn't really at much risk compared to pikmin. Yes, it takes forever, but better than losing a bunch of pikmin.
The last rest floor really gives this almost dreadful feeling in my opinion. Knowing _something big_ is going to happen in the next floor.
Electric guitar? In MY pikmin 4? it's more likely than you think! Seriously love this song, really elevates the fight to 11.

I love how all the phases feel familiar enough to be able to somewhat predict them, until it decides to FLY! And not just that, it uses Smoky Progg's GLOOM! Not poison, like you'd expect from the green phase, GLOOM!
1:38:15 and here we see one of the most potentially dangerous attack combos in the game. Panicking your pikmin while pockets of insta-kill are around. I've seen people totally wipe to this attack when unprepared.
Good job on the fight! It was touch and go, but you performed super well! Your pikmin experience really showed through with your perseverance and skill!
All things considered, 56 pikmin deaths isn't bad with how easily they could get instakilled by things in this cave, especially without using the rewind feature.
How does this angry pup's size compare to other Pikmin bosses? I feel like this is one of, if not, the biggest one of them lol.
1:55:50, despite that one pikmin's fear, the dog doesn't seem like it's being aggressive, yeah. I hope it can make amends with the Pikmin and moss can be it's buddy.
That menu screen actually has a small chance to pop up but you got lucky and it appeared when you finished the game
I think we can all agree that P4 had the best final boss fight in the series yeah? They’ve all been fantastic, and P3 might still take the cake as peak atmosphere and prelude to the fight, but this one is just freaking insane!! Challenging, uses (most) all of the Pikmin types, gnarly gauntlet of a buildup, FIRE METAL MUSIC, and epic Luis Lore building!!

I really am gonna miss this. It has been the best and most comforting let's play I've ever seen. It's legitimately helped me through a rough time but all things must come to an end. At least we still have the readings to look forward to, I'm excited to finally get those
To stop the poison puffstool from reviving dead enemies, you can let Oachi swallow the corpses, then they can't be revived.
Scruff this series has been an absolute joy to watch, your performances and voices for every character have been so funny and cute and ive loved every second of watching, it truly has been a joy.

Just want to say thank you for the playthrough! I rarely follow episodic playthroughs nowadays but this one had me hooked, just comforting vibes all around.
I rarely leave comments these days, but I have to give you praise for this incredible playthrough. It took me a while to catch up on it and now I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite playthroughs of all time.
Your attention to detail for all aspects of this game have made it such a joy to watch. As someone without a musical background, I really appreciated you pointing out the details in the music and sound design which I would have never noticed on my own. This is what I've always loved about your content, and you really went the extra mile with this series. You took the time to analyze the visuals, point out references to previous Pikmin games, and how could I not mention your commitment to giving every character a unique voice! Your commentary was both insightful and fun, and the minimal editing with some funny additions was a perfect fit for it. I also have to point out how useful the sound effect accompanying the on-screen notes is, thank you.

I recommend talking to Louie a few times as both your captain and Oatchi cause he has some cool dialogue

This was a great series, Pikmin 4 is such an amazing game and it was wonderful watching you play it. When you do the voyage log episode, make sure to check out the Rescue Journal too. It has diary entries from Shepherd and log entries from her ancestors in there for some more lore, not just the gameplay hints.

This has basically been my journey through pikmin 4 as well. This pushed me into buying the games finally, which is awesome, and i genuinely haven’t been happier since i did that. I do not have pikmin 4 yet though which ummmmmmmm kinda sucks but i didn’t go in blind to any of them so it’s okay.
Sad that it’s ending, but i’m excited to know this isn’t the last game you’ll play on here :3

its been so much fun watching you play through pikmin 4! i completed it myself a while back, n it's been nice having someone else's experiences to compare mine to. originally i felt like most of the game was way too easy, and maybe that's just cuz i play a lotta pikmin, but seeing someone else play n not breeze straight through everything like i did kinda put into perspective how a more average player would feel about the game. that said, it was very vindicating to see someone else having trouble with the training wheels-type features they added on for accessibility. for a game that yells at you so much to be efficient, it sure does love slowing down experienced efficient players. the auto-aim and the forced throwing pauses really shoulda been toggleable, but it's frustration i'm willing to endure if it means the game might sell more, cuz that just means we might be getting the next game a lot sooner!
ultimately my only real quarrel with the game personally is the narrative retcons, cuz as fun as pikmin 4's narrative is i don't think it was worth partially retconning pikmin 1, and that 100%-ing everything as you go results in not getting a real opportunity to use some pretty cool abilities due to everything already being completed, which feels a bit like they kinda forgot that's how some people play the game (also if they do dogs again in the next one i hope they nerf em a bit). all in all tho, a great game, n i'd love to see you play through the other pikmin games sometime! can't wait for the piklopedia and treasure log episodes!

Your charming edits, the editor commentary, and the memorials to the pikmin at the end of the episode were delightful. This was no doubt my favorite let's play. I look forward to more of your usual content, but would gladly welcome another playthrough series like this.

Well it was fun, but I too have just completed the full game as well, and I loved it, and I hope you did as well along with everyone else here who we shared the journey with, definitely worth the decade
It was a blast watching you play through this Scruffy. Like I said near the beginning, I completed the game twice so it's nice to see another person's first experience. It's also a good game to replay. After all you've learned, it's fun to see how differently you'll play the next time around. Glad to see you had as much fun Scruffy. Can't wait to see you read the entries for the creatures and treasures. I also hope you make a video talking to the castaways as Oatchi. Also, there's secret dialog if you look like them. And yes, read the Voyage Log. There's some nice things Olimar talks about. Even the tutorial ones have nice moments. Looking forward to future videos Scruffy, and thanks for the wonderful series.
