Fantastic disassembly/re-assembly tutorial. I would have had a few extra screws left over if I attempted it! I made two small mods to my 4000S. You mentioned in your prior video of using rechargeable batteries. I used nimh batteries, the hybrid type, soldered wire to the positive and negative ends, and installed a small WS Deans 3-pin connector at the bottom (only use two of the three pins) and now I charge using one of my RC chargers. I like not having to open the case to charge. I also added an extension to the neck-strap ring, to keep the strap from hitting my left thumb while playing. I may use your disassembly video in case I decide to paint my EWI gold. Probably would come out a lot better disassembling, instead of using masking tape.
What did you actually end up doing to remove the logos? Just sand them off? Thinking of repainting the metal on the one I've purchased because it's got some big scratches from the previous owner...
Peter, nice video. I've an issue with my EWI 5000s. When I blow in without touching something it sounds like I'm touching the lowest octave wheel. Do you have any suggestions how I can fix that ? Also when I turn my analog BREATH-turn-button to over the value of 66/67 I hear that same sound. Something to do with that maybe ?
Yes I will keep both since they are totally different instruments (in the inside at least). The 5000s looks more like a sampler to me and the 4000s more like a synthesizer. Comming from the 5000s I was at first a bit disapointet since the difference in the sounds of the 4000s are not that big because they are all generated the same way. But the 4000s is way more expressive than the 5000s. Anyway long story short: I think the 4000s is a nice addition to the 5000s. But thats it it is nice to have. If I had to choose I would be happy with just the 5000s.
@@peterommes4360 yeh I've heard about the 4000 and 3000 series being the most expressive in their own way(one for its digital patches and one for being the last truly analog ewi); I'm currently making my own wind instrument using a ribbon controller and found issues with the limited midi analog range (also why I didn't like the ewi usb), so I moved to an onboard raspberry pi to run internal patches directly from the analog data. I'm interested in trying to use a totally analog setup like the modulin since I'm not using digital pins for the notes, but I dont have the rack equipment. I'm trying to make some pure data patches to compare with the 4000s, but I can only compare it to the usb, which I can already emulate(other than bite) with software frets on the ribbon cable being sent over usb.

This was cool. I’ve always been interested in these EWIs. Also, about the red logo: Akai is the Japanese word for red, hence the colored logo.

My ewi 4000s has died and these videos were great but I haven't solved my problem. Do you have access to spare PCBs where you are?
Unfortunately no. I try to keep mine alive as long as possible
Yamaha used to print their logo on their saxophones with purple ink.
I guess it aged well too :D
Hi i have an ewi 4000s and it says oo error on displays and dont work anything cam you help me please ?

Sounds too me lie a grounding issue. Make sure your hands (and thumbs) are not too dry. That helps for me
Are you planning on keeping both the EWI 5000 and 4000? I'm still on the lookout for a used 4000s.

Great Video, Thanks so much ! Which board was it that has the processor and the sounds ?
Actually I did not check the components on the board. But if I had to guess it is the long big board.
Peter Ommes your right. I had to replace mine because of a crash while trying to update.
Nice vid
