Vrienden Van Amstel = Friend Of Amstel, which is a Dutch beer brand. The sponsor a string of multi-artist live shows that always happen in January as a sort of kick off of the new year. Usually artists do just a few songs but then also guest on other people’s song. On this particular edition earlier this year Kensington and Di-rect cooperated to perform a 90s medley that apparently was one of the highlights of this years edition. These liveshows are basically a cross section of the Dutch popular music scene.
Oh yessss!!! Great song and a great live version with the strings and the spinning and lifting stage. I witnessed this show myself, and could've easily been that girl that stood there balling her eyes out! The song is about loss and how to handle emotions you've never experienced before, and how you wish you could go back to a time when everything was fine. Very relatable to a lot of people, me included. You've picked two of their slower songs so far, which I love, but trust me, these dudes know how to rock! Anneke van Giersbergen. One of the best Dutch singers (at least top 5). She was leadsinger of The Gathering and they made great music. "Travel"- TG25 Doornroosje is a great one, i's about Mozart;).
Friends of Amstel is a huge concert with a majority of the major Dutch bands playing everynight for 10 nights, from the last 10-20years mixed and updated. Sold out almost every night. For a country of 17million people its a huge achievement.

funny you mentioned Skillet, they were my first hard rock/metal concert I ever went to! they do tour in Europe as well and I went when they got to the Netherlands. I see the likeness in this song, but the overall style is very different in my opinion.
You should check out WAR,DO I EVER,,HOME AGAIN,WHAT LIES AHEAD., they are more uptempo.Very slow and calm but GREAT GREAT is the acoustic version of WE ARE THE YOUNG.You must react to these songs if you like Kensinton
I love and hate this song. My bff, the sister I never had, died in November 2019. Having had breast cancer for 15 years. This song was just becoming a hit on the radio. So like how I felt, so I love how it puts in words how it feels to lose someone dear to you. The ‘hate’ is because I still have an ugly cry when I hear it, no matter where I am.
You should also listen to Kensington together with DI-RECT live at De Vrienden van Amstel live. The is really awesome and I am sure you will be impressed. Because these 2 bands together can make a lot of great noise 😉
I checked out some Hinder songs and their music sounds quite a bit heavier, but I understand the simularity in the lead singers voices. I also checked out ‘Yours to hold’ from Skillet and that indeed sounds more like Kensington. Kensington has been the #1 band in The Netherlands for the last couple of years winning all the music awards. You are discovering Dutch artist and make us discovering American artists we never heard of here. That’s great!
Another Dutch band, The Deaf, the leadsinger Spike is also the gitarist/one of the founders of Direct and son in law of the leadsinger of the Golden Earring. They are all lovely people too, the keyboard player can eat like a bear. I was a volunteer at JOIN, a non profit venue where my daughter and I arranged back stage and cooked fresh Greek dishes for the bands. 15 years of great bands, freedom and loads of fun. Their latest album is a bit more introspective and different from what they did before. It's a lot more mature. I love their earlier stuff but I also love "Time" a lot. They have a lot of up-tempo songs but also some ballads like this that break your heart.
