I'm very much a Ricoh fan and I don't understand why Ricoh cameras aren't as popular other than brand recognition. Ricoh has introduced a lot of great products over the years, such as the Super Ricohflex that was a TLR with an optional (?) 35mm back you could purchase. My first film camera a year ago was actually a Sears KSX Super II that I picked up for $15 with its kit 50mm lens and a 135mm. The thing is just amazing, everything from 16 seconds to 1/1000th it's got you covered. The kit lens opens up to F/1.7 and just looks very nice no matter how open it is. Later picked up a Sears TLS 500MX that I watched just sit on Ebay for 2 weeks. It's not as capable as the normal TLS but it came with its 50mm, a 135, and 300mm lenses in a metal carry case with all the manuals, CdA light meter, filters, all the jazz you could ever need for a mere $60. Oddly came with a blue filter and no red but beggars can't be choosers. Everything worked like the day it was purchased and was spotlessly clean. Meanwhile I see people frequently buying clapped out popular models for extortionist prices and celebrating the fact. I know hype sells but still. People applying the modern (1980s and later) definition of a store brand being bad is a huge issue, when really in the 1900-late seventies these store brand devices were made by reputable manufacturers. A great example of this is the Sears Forecast 12 being better than the plain SCM typewriter or many of the Sears TLRs or the Sears leica copy. Something is very wrong when many "first camera" recommendation lists never dip under $100.

The Sears TLS 500MX and 1000MX are not Ricoh cameras, they are Mamiya TL cameras.

      @@johnruschmeyer5769 Cloth shutter = Mamiya. Metal shutter = Cosina/Ricoh.

'Brian's Photo Show' also features quite a lot of Ricoh's. He's obviously a fan, in the cheap M42 system mode.

Hi, agreed, I am subbed to his channel, thanks for the tip though, are you an M42 fan?

@@thephotographersbag I probably got into M42 because I picked up a few lenses cheap, then I had to find a camera to fit them. Several M42 mount camera's later I usually shoot a Praktica Nova B both B&W and colour, develop myself and tinker a bit in Photoshop. I'm not sniffy about cameras, I'll give anything a try.

Hi, thanks for sharing and I like your attitude, photography should be about having fun, not the gear.
