I finally got my hands on Pattern Beauty's Detangling Nectar. This has been out for a while and I get to share my thoughts with you on how it has worked on my type 4 hair. Check out this review see if you should pick up this Detangling Nectar of if you should keep your money in your pocket!

It's the Hydroxyethylcellulose! and definitely the Aloe!. The non-scientific term is called "Flash drying". The scientific term is "Hydrophobia" - What occurs is that acidity closes the hair shaft making it stiff, HOWEVER film forming humectants and polymers compete for water outside the hair shaft. This leads to that "Dry but Wet" feeling, almost as if the product is pulling moisture out of your hair even while it's wet. The hair becomes "hard / rough" despite the awkward duality of being wet and slippery at the surface.
I know you said your hair likes Aloe, but it was the Aloe lol. Aloe is both acidic, a humectant and rich in polymers. This is also why a lot of people report drying affects with Glycerin, PVP (Eco styler/Edge booster), Aloe, Propylene Glycol etc. even though they're humectants. Aloe is VERY prone to do this because it's both acidic AND a film forming humectant.
This does not mean that the ingredients are bad, they aren't. It just means that Acidity & Film forming polymers are reversing the direction of moisture because they do not play well together. This is also why people say to be careful because these ingredients can do the opposite of what they're supposed to do, depending on what's on the hair, and the relative humidity.
In short: Your cuticle is tight making it feel "stiff" meanwhile the water is on the wrong side of the hair shaft. I will provide a link because I'm sure you've wondered why some people despise Aloe and say it makes their hair hard.

Anything Pattern is a pass for me, but the consistency does look satisfying. I’ve seen other UA-camrs use this as a leave-in, and they seem to like it better that way, but I’m not sure how much better this method would be for most since this is supposed to be used as a pre-poo.

I use this as a leave-in and it's great. It really helps with curl definition and moisture with my wash n gos. While it has some slip, I don't think i could use this as a prepoo. Great video

Hey girl. It worked for me. My tangles melted away. I do spray water on my hair when pre-pooing it helps with the slip. I like it but I can get the same result with others I’ve used at a cheaper price point.

this is why I normally try to buy pattern at ultra or Sephora so I can return it. I think you can return it online but not sure. I do agree with the water part. you do need it. I will finish mine too but I won't buy it again.

I will pass on PATTERN products, I purchased the nectar and it was just so….so….ugh. Everything I have tried makes my hair feel strange as well and I get no slip with the conditioners. I will support them by purchasing their hair tools. I love their microfiber towel.

I just tried it two days ago! I used it as a detangler / leave in post-wash. I don't put a lot in my hair these days but I did like how it detangles. I'm a grease user [gasp], so I twisted my hair up after applying. It turned out really well, but I think I could get these results with other products. Not bad, but I wouldn't buy it again.

I got it during their bogo... i also feel like it was just ok... its not on par with NLS prepoo... people love it... they lyin lol ive used it to refesh and as a leave in as well as prepoo... meh...
