Damn the car gets wrecked so quickly once in the air. on the PS1 version you can last waaay longer and cause more mayhem- even drive on the building roofs if you do it right..
I don't remember the game being that quick to declare your car wrecked if you got sweet air, and I only ever played the PC port. You absolutely would get wrecked if you flew above the building models but I'm gonna chock that up to that being easier than the vehicle getting stuck out of bounds.

Lmao man i loved this game.....it was so buggy but made for some hilarious gameplay. You could flip cars over on their side and hit them right in the center of the driveshaft and send them sailing straight in the air.
I remember my older brother telling me about this game back in the day. He explained it as the best game ever and he indicated how you can drive around the city as in real life.
Actually it was a fairly common glitch on the PS1 version. They def have it right in SF though, the steep inclines could set you up perfectly to either send a cop car airborne or another motorist or your car. In survivor mode you basically start out with a fleet of cops on your ass so they were so much more unforgiving. Something about that hit box on car roofs or undercarriages. In fact there was another racing game that was even funnier than Driver. I never formally owned it but a trial came with the PS1, it was like a demo of games. It was called Cart World Series or something. You could basically do the same stuff as Driver, but faster, and if you went backwards, the race never ended, and you could set yourself up right before the finish/pit lane (going backwards) and the first lap all the racers would be dangerously close to one another, so you'd floor it at them in this confined lane and the results were legendary. All the cars would lose their tires, spoilers would be going all over the place, some would get pushed sideways and if you were lucky a AI racer or yourself would go flying off the map, like at Mach 20, 100 times faster than what you see in Driver, with the accelerator straight up glitched out on redline. also there'd be this hilarious glitch styled tire burn sound emanating from a bunch of cars all at once, and then some guy would go flying with no wheels and just disappear in the sky. haha Also I would start out racing normally with the racers, there was this real long straightaway and I'd line myself on the right of one of the cars, and when we got to the right turn, just keep going slightly left of straight into the wall at top speed with some unfortunate car. XD Oh yeah the best places in Driver I always got a kick out of if anyone still plays it, is at the bottom of trolley, there's 2 REALLY steep hills back to back, and also after the Golden Gate Bridge, its like that stupid little rectangle, but if you could get the cops behind you just right, you could go flying up that incline, and just before you peaked it, slam on your breaks so you lost all your momentum, and could do a sharp turn to the left, the cops would still be maxed out and they'd literally go off the map into this grassy area and would be unable to get back on the playable road. Lmao
LoL you remind me of myself back to when I was 9 years old I was playing this mission all the day and saving a good replys on my memory card until my memory card become fully with driver saves and I deleted all other game saves because of that I wish I can find my PS1 😢

I need to try installing this on my new laptop. This is one of the greatest driving games of all time, up there with Burnout 2 and 3. Though I defended it for many years, the series just hasn't been the same, or... fun, since the first game. It just keeps getting worse with every sequel
They should adapt this game into a movie, and when I say that, I mean the physics of the car crashes and all. It'll be like kung-fu theater, only with car crashes.
