Was rad tech 1982-2001. I worked with a wonderful man, a good radiologist name Takashi Hattori who retired in 1993. He told me stories about the old days of radiology. When he had to do fluoroscopy back in the day, he would don red shielding goggles before going to work so his eyes would adjust. He got pulled over by a cop because he ran a red light that he could not see it. Cop let him off. Great soul, great human…RIP Dr Hattori of Monterey

I've been longing to see more of The Psychiatrist in your content and I think these therapy videos will be the perfect vehicle for that! It's a good first step at least! 😉🤓
I genuinely wasn't expecting the second pair of sunglasses and laughed for a good 15 seconds. That may not sound like a lot, but actually count out 15 seconds and you'll see how long of a laugh that is.
I just started my first radiology postings, and when I first saw the department, I could not help but realte it to your Dr. Radiology. 😂 The department is beautiful, but they love to teach in pitch black conference rooms with their presentations (extremy cozy too!) (other departments don't seem to love dark as much), and have awesome professors.
Just plan your hangovers for when you have a radiology lecture the next morning 😂 it’s already pitch black and no one will judge you for wearing sunglasses
@@leocervidae this is underrated right here...we had classes in school where i just went in pj and slept because mondays were movie day (we would be told the movie the friday before weekend). If Radiology is contented enough in the reading room, why can't you just leave him there? Why force him to go out and interact with the diurnals? It's just mean.
I am not sure what's sadder, the fact I understood diurnals or the fact I sympathize with the the radiologist that wants to stay in his room and do his work.
@@taiya001 the saddest thing is your question. Any kid who's watched any show about animals knows the word "nocturnal". Just a pinch of braincells and you can work out what "diurnal" means. 🙄
Decades ago, I worked in a Radiology Dept of a major hospital as a film librarian. They probably don't even have those anymore. One thing I remember is I never saw, much less met, a Radiologist the whole time. A film order would come over on this really primitive printer, we would hunt down the films in the warehouse and take them to the Radiology front desk and leave. The nurses handled it from there. I was like the docs were vampires.
More of this please! Psych of any field, more visits w/ radiology or actual visit w/ Dr. Cellini (as a guest collaboration). Best part of my day. My retinal migraine thanks you!
I'm not a doctor, but I have read that there isn't any evidence that eyestrain from things like reading in dark rooms or sitting too close to the television actually damage your eyes in the long term. It may make them feel dry and irritated in the moment, but the idea that it will damage your vision is just an old wives tale.

My mom works as a speech path at my school and this reminds me a lot of her autistic students. One kid is obsessed with fans (like ceiling fans) and insterts them into every conversation. Hear a story just like this skit every other day. Gotta love em 😅💕
I loved the radiologist at me old hospital. A while ago I was in the hospital twice a month because my doctor was worried about a possible embolism issue I could have and I couldn't breathe. They never admitted me because they never found anything (and diagnosis was pluerisy eventually). He was a very kind South Asian man that made my stay very comfortable and was very good at keeping me calm. I got so many chest x-rays in 2014 man.
Hounsfield units describe just the radiodensity of material, not how bright it is. It's *always* -1000 HU outside because the HU value of air is -1000 regardless of what the sun is doing.

Love the normalization of radiology! Part of my B.S. was in Radiological Engineering, so it's a weekly struggle not to get bummed out on the internet by all the misinformed fear around radiation.
As someone who works in IT and who was locked away in a basement until sent home to work because of the pandemic, I felt this in my soul! P.S. Radiology was always a good place to hide and they had the best computers in the hospital but only black and white monitors.
Radiologists also have the best decorated rooms, but you can never tell :)
Oh my god I've never thought about that
Glow-in-the-dark stuff?

Genuine question - Are radiologists at increased risk for premature vision loss/change because they spend more time in the dark?
No
