    Very nice video, we talked that day, as others have said we picked it one way because of the way it was leaning, otherwise if we were to pick both ways we'd leave way to much on the ground not harvested, which means less tons paid. We strive do the best possible job of harvesting so you'll continue to grow for us to feed the world. Your sweet corn went to the Glencoe MN Plant. The Pickers are OXBO 8430 and a 8420XP, the other machine is a "home built" that we built out of a retired corn picker and dump box we call cart-ons. We have 3 of them, this one is Beetlejuice, Marsh Monkey and Swamp Donkey were at another field that day. I know it takes a lot of hard work to farm Organic and we were VERY impressed by your yield and field conditions. Top notch operation you have. 👍👍👍👍

    This is cool, that's me in my sweetcorn truck at the end. I saw you taking the video as I was leaving. That feild was a one way pick because alot of the corn was blown over and the cobs are so low on the stalk, when it is that way they pick 6 or 7 to be sure they don't leave one behind if they got off on the last pass

    So we pick sweet corn here in Ontario Canada and the organic sweet corn when it’s gets cultivated it weakens the stalk and when it grows it bends and somewhat falls over so when you take a full 8 rows you miss some that fall over so by taking 7 rows you get it all

    My 3 year old grandson is fascinated by combines right now and I’ve been showing him your harvest videos, he’ll be ready for this year’s videos when you upload them.

    That was a first for me. The only way I have seen sweet corn harvested is when the guy at the market garden walks into the field with a burlap gunny sac and returns with a full one for $ 20 bucks. That was a lot of years ago though. The stuff I grew in the garden this year was ready middle of August so I am surprised yours is just being harvested now. 🇨🇦

    In lodged sweetcorn you pick into the fallen corn. If you pick with it, you will just run it over and leave it. Standard operating procedure.

    Is it the self propelled cob wagon or the Huss Bus? LOL keep up the great work and videos, they are very enjoyable. I really enjoy your Dad's calm and dry sense of humor.

    1:41 Maybe the sweet corn plant looked crappy because you are so used to Field Corn? How do you control earworm in Organic Sweet Corn?

    Too bad you couldn't show more of the harvesting machine, and how they work, and another video how they process the corn.
    For the rest nice video!
    Thank you, greetings from Sweden

    Yea! Yeah, it's new equipment and I've never seen this type of harvest. Are you going to grow again for a cannery again next year?

      Not for sure. We hope to do some peas but it’s up to them not us

    Very interesting, thanks for the effort. I am also wondering about the oneway travel, a normal combine's auger only swings to the left, so I don't see why they don't just go in circles, like a combine. Cool looking buggies, I guess they would be cheaper than a tractor/cart combo, also shorter for tight quarters.

      A couple of the guys that were in this particular operation commented. Was because the field with slightly blown over and it was easier to pick one Direction. They were picking seven rows because it’s easier to see where the and row is if there is a snout on the other side.

    Does that conveyor damage ears?

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  2 роки тому

      it must not hurt the ears too bad. I am assuming the first ones to drop in the bin get a bit beat up, but after the metal is covered in the bin there is very little damage.

    nice video.... see this for the first time too, but is this "oneway" picking economic ? 🤔

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  2 роки тому +1

      A couple of the guys that were running part of this operation actually commented on my video and said that the reason they were picking one direction because a lot of the corn was blown over and the cobs were low on the stock so they picked one-direction with seven rows to help pick up as much of the corn as they could

  • @jkotts2208

    They take 7 rows to see where the row is with the row that's not harvesting when its leaned and twisted really bad
