- So recently I watched the first movie in the Descendants franchise. And despite being one of the strangest and most cheaply made films i've ever seen. It was still an absolute masterpiece. Seriously, who would have thought right? And so I rewatched the second one. And whilst i'm not sure that it fully recaptures the magic of the first film (which really just is a perfect storm scenario), and is somewhat a case of diminishing returns. It was still a lot of fun. My more comprehensive thoughts within.

Apparently Cameron-(Carlos) dyed his actual hair white in the first movie, but his hair got damaged from the dye, hence why he wears a wig in the second and third films. R.I.P Cameron. 🙏🏼🥀💐

I thought that too, but it kinda takes away from what he learned in Beauty & The Beast. Him being spelled was the best thing that happened to him, he learned to grow passed his vanity, and met the love of his life

❗️⚠️SPOILERS⚠️❗️9:19 for anyone wondering, the book series, written by Melissa De La Cruz, explains that the barrier isn’t tight around the island, there actually is a decent amount of water around the island, so much so that there’s a whole other island inside the barrier, called the Isle of the Doomed, which is where Maleficant’s fortress is and it takes the pirates most of an afternoon to get there, also Uma does actually have a ship, she wins it from Captain Hook but it gets shipwrecked at the end of the same book due to a storm
You should watch Ever After High too! It is truly a phenomenal show :D

Well There’s a big rivalry between Ever After High and Descendants and their fans because the franchises keep copying each other. (and by a Semi Charming Kind of Life, they were no longer even being subtle about it considering that a whole chapter from one of the Descendants books is entirely copied and pasted onto it.)
They said that Ben’s father was elected King so why not elect another King instead of making a 16 year old with no experience be the King? Honestly it should be between the adults of all of the kingdoms to see who is the king for the next 10 years or something.

Descendants 2 is my favourite of this trilogy. The music is super catchy and Mal’s arc here was the most compelling of the three for me. I can see how people might think Dude is annoying after he starts talking, but that’s probably the only downside for me. And the finale song just hits harder now that Cameron Boyce is gone.
people who believe descendants is a copy of eah are forgetting the absolute explosion of retelling fairytales in the early to mid 2010s which came off the back of Once upon a Time, although there was and still is tension between Mattel and Disney, its entirely possible that they were both inspired by this trend rather than each other directly. I watched both growing up as a kid and they're pretty equal in my opinion.

You should really react to Ever After High which in my opinion is the superior story about children of Fairy Tale characters . The characters and their designs are gorgeous and unique and I love the story and will forever be annoyed that it was cancelled

Ever After High literally copied a whole chapter from one of the Descendants books. (And No, it’s not coincidence because Evie and Darling have near identical backstories and same thought process. The only difference is the reason behind the isolation.)
Oh, and that’s not the only thing that Ever After High copied.
Descendants didn't "just copy it" they have completely different storylines, also the retelling fairy tales trope exploded in popularity in all forms of media after the release of Once upon a Time so its likely they were both inspired by that

2) Sure Apple and Audrey are similar but do yk who else is similar? the evil queen, maleficent (in the live action), ursula, jafar, scar and so many other characters (both disney and not) it's the classic idea of becoming evil and getting revenge after losing something rightfully yours which is used for possibly thousands of characters. 3) I'd say that if anything, Evie and Doug are more similar to Raven and Dexter. Ben acts nothing like dexter and Mal isn't all too similar to Raven.

Briar in appearance, daughter of sleeping beauty, mother being asleep for 100 years and being a Royal that was actually a Rebel.
Apple in terms of personality and character arc.
Cupid in terms of the love triangle.
Chad is Daring, whom Apple believed that she would end up with since she was little. Just like Audrey was retconned into being Ben’s childhood friend who she had a crush on since she was little and everyone believed they would end up together.
If you look at the characters dialogue in every single episode, every plot, every book, they are copied from Ever After High.

I couldn't stand Ben and Mal. They were so boring and had no chemistry. In fact, Ben and Eve and Mal and Hook both had more flirtatious scenes! Oh, and even Uma and Ben looked better together.
Yep. That’s because Dove Cameron was dating Hook’s actor and she no longer wanted Mal and Ben to be together and she didn’t feel comfortable with Hook X Uma because she didn’t want their characters flirting when she and Harry were dating in real life.
Pretty much the only reason Mal x Ben stayed together was to copy Raven X Dexter.

Eah stopped after Disney separated with Mattel, there was a lot of tension and competition between the 2 companies as Mattel was branching into TV whereas before only being a doll company. To combat this, Disney separated from Mattel who were making the Disney princess dolls at the time, without the money from making Disney dolls, Mattel could no longer afford to fund eah and the show was cancelled. It didn't help that Disney released Descendants around the same time

I think this second film did a lot better with the social commentary, the songs were better, the costumes and (many of) the wigs were better, and the story was better. Uma was an awesome villain (backed up by the acting and vocal chops of China Anne McClain). This was my favorite of the three. Sorry, I gotta disagree on What's My Name. Best song and choreography not only of this movie, but of the franchise as a whole.
