No, she didn’t nail it….not in my opinion. She gave a clean version of Janis singing but she did not duplicate Janis voice. She tried and gave a good effort but I could distinctly hear the differences in their voices, especially the soul. You can hear the soul in Joplins voice. I couldn’t hear it in this singers voice. It just wasn’t there. She likely hasn’t been through the crap that janis had to go through, over 50 years ago, to be taken serious. Janis wasn’t a gorgeous little blonde who gets it all their way. Janis had to fight to get her moment in the spotlight.

Alonya sounds and looks like my aunty, she started singing since 1969 in SE Asia, she used to do venues for GI’s on R&R from S. Vietnam during the war. This song was on her list. I played this video to her, she was amazed. Thanks. Alonya is great.

Man she is so good! You can see she's so comfortable singing that & her energy she pus into the song is outstanding! It's hard to explain but I really like the slight accent and emphasis she puts into the words. That transition at timeline 0:23 (didn't I make you feel...like you were the only man) was perfect! The accents I refer to are at 0:50 ("Woman" can be tough) and 1:45 Baby I cry all the "time". She's just great!

Actually, Erma Franklin (Aretha's sister) sang it before Janis did, but Janis's version was the smash hit. But, my goodness, Alyona has taken it to the rafters, and has a ton of character in her version.

@@kentamplin You've done a fantastic job with this little lady! My daughter and I like to watch your videos on a regular basis and we are both lucky enough to be blessed with natural singing voices. I am a low tenor and sang a lot of the metal tunes back in the 80's as I was able to sing much higher with a mixed voice employing glodical compression than virtually anyone around at the time. There were no guys around like you back in those days so I had to figure it out on my own.
you're the first person who can really match the sound of her voice, in most covers, the person's voice is to smooth.
