When a movie blends the practical and CG effects right, that can bring a totally new dimension to the movie. Jurassic Park still holds up today after 25 years! Same goes for movies like 2001, Alien, Star Wars, Aliens, The Thing etc...
MetallicA7X92 not really. maybe the thing, but when I show those movies to ppl who aren't film fans, they are quick to point out how fake it looks. the alien in alien is laughable. the effects on star wars look like a an episode of power rangers. these movies are really good films that AT THE TIME, were revolutionary in visuals. but i dont think theyve aged well. its cool to like practical effects but they do have limits. the best practical effects are in Jason or freddy movies for me. now those aged well when it comes to effects
Kha Lee You mean a combination of practical effects and cgi? Cause almost 50% of the time you see dinosaurs inn that movie is CGI. It was (arguable) the pinnacle of practical effects but also the beginning of a new era with CGI
Kha Lee it's absolutely pointless practical effects like that are just gimmicks that get people hyped, they should utilise cgi even more than in the last film, they have access to the best of the best when it comes to cgi
I am literaly so happy that thay are usng this amount of practical effects in Fallen Kingdom! The artistry that goes in to make them, are just amazing. It's really the best when there is a good balance between CGI, and the practicall effects in this type of movie. I hope they will keep on using them in the next film to!
@@laughingbob5786 Problem is, they say, "Oh, we're doing practical effects, it's gonna look great!", and I can't even tell wether or not a scene actually has practical effects in it.
They´re coincidence theorists, Ro. Coincidence theorists are dinosaurs who refuse to become extinct. They believe all kinds of amazing things, whose amazing logic requires an amazing level of insanity to believe. They think it takes 19 hijackers to tear down two buildings. They think people should just wish Jurassic World into full manifestation with no preparation. They present themselves as being all knowledgeable about the laws of physics, while they cannot come to terms with how to raise the minimum wage. What happens when you put coincidence theorists in charge of a whole island? The island collapses! They even dress up in parties wearing snail people masks!
Truthfully I love dinosaurs they have amazed me made me want to be. A paliantologist when I'm older I grew up loving these movies I wold always say " when's the new one coming out" i love the detail they put into this it amazes me how they do it so thx.
Yup. They both go hand in hand. Sometimes, CGI tends to make things too light while practical effects seem to make them too heavy. Combining the two really helps to solve the problem.
I’m little disappointed not one person mentioned the late, great Stan Winston. Without him, we’d have no dinosaurs and thus no Jurassic Park. It’ll be a decade since he passed away in June 2008.
I believe most Practical Effect dominate CGI that is used in today’s present day live action films. Although I'm NOT saying 3D Animation is terrible in some films. Just FYI: I happen to be a part-time 3D Animator and Filmmaker.
Totally depends on the situation. Good CGI is something you don't even notice, like Iron Man's suit for instance. Or vehicles. Pretty much all car commercials use CGI to render the car. Google The Mill Blackbird. That car is used as motion capture reference in pretty much all car commercials :) But animation is very tricky to get right, especially facial animations, and most of the time you can tell it's CGI, and this is what most people refers to as bad CGI. I'm getting a heavy Lost World vibe from the music and look of the movie. Which i'm pretty okay with! It's great to see that they're taking a more classic Jurassic Park approach with the animatronics too.
Lol btw I watched the movie 2-3 days after it was released, idk maybe my expectations were too high but it wasn't as great as I thought it could've been
Practical effects are best effects! So exited for this movie! Can’t wait! Also, I love the attention to detail on Rexy, you can see her battle scars that she earned when she had a little tussle with the Indominus in the last movie.
If thats the music from this movie, then i couldnt be more excited because it sounds so similar to the lost world which has my favorite soundtrack in any movie
I just remember seeing the old movie as a kid and when my sister told me the dinosaurs where dead I said “then How did they make this movie” I finally got my answer a 5 years later
This is one of many signs I’ve gotten that this is going to be even better than the previous movie. It’s great to see practical effects used for the close-ups of the dinosaurs, along with the CGI, used for the long shots, like in the old Jurassic Park films, because it all makes them more life-like. I’m hyped to see these techniques used, again, after all these years!
Randy Rorschach Jesus Christ, you’re acting like EVERYTHING can be done in practical effects as well as if all CGI is as bad as most people make them out to be...
I’m so thankful that they use these beautiful animatronics and gorgeously realistic special effects... they made a wonderfuly entertaining film that I thought was magnificent. I don’t give a crap about what the haters and critics that all they do for a living is make everyone feel bad. This movie was amazing and that’s that.
Stan Winston was a genius when it comes to animatronics. Although these look great and I'm super happy that they are using more practical effects they just don't look as good or as epically real like the did in the originals. I think Hollywood are struggling to find a talent that matches Stan Winston. Still excited for this film though!
To all the people that are complaining about the CGI being layered over the animatronics. It is not like that ENTIRE animal is CGI, they won't be FULLY covering the animal in CGI. They're adding bits and pieces with CGI, that stripe down its neck and back on the Indoraptor? THAT WAS CGI'd, and personally, I think it looks better! It's a more noticeable look! It's a good combination between CGI and animatronics, think about it like yin and yang. Don't call the dino's trash just because RIGHT NOW they make look shotty in the trailers, they're working on it and are eventually going to fully embrace you with good dinosaurs.
Chief Little Rex this is gettin out of hand. Why can't they combine 2 dinosaur? They sold me on trex+raptor as indominus but when they say it also cuttlefish, tree frog ect i just don't buy it. Sometimes less is more. They should just make indominus+raptor.
Sexy Savage there are gaps in the gene sequences so they have to fill them in, also what makes a cool hybrid is cool abilities and in order to get those abilities you have to mix animals and dinosaurs like this
the transition between the use of animatronics and CGI in this film was almost seamless. the team behind the visuals should honestly be nominated for their efforts.
bigpimpdaddy69 but that's the thing. The trailers gave so much of the story away that the first trailer looked like it was for an entirely different movie.
You don’t understand how happy this made me. I’m literally crying. I’m so HYPED! My fav is the raptor just based on this video. Very excited 😆
Mythical Nerd you must think from the director standpoint. Practical effects cost more than cgi. So it should be use to something special and not all the time because it gonna used so much money
Sexy Savage Practical effects are actually cheaper for the most part, but with big blockbusters it doesn’t matter. It’s just easy for a director to say that they can add something in later instead of messing around with a physical effect on set, and they don’t have to worry because budget isn’t a problem. Studios also push the use of CGI. A lot of times they shorten pre-production and allow more time for post-production. This limits what special effects artists are able to achieve.
That looks so good! For slower hands on scenes practical effects in my opinion are much cleaner, realistic but for other things like chase scenes that are fast motion CGI is great but I hope they use more practical effects as that's what made the first Jurassic Park so memorable.
+Augie Rivera Well I mean Rexy is super old so it would be weird if it would be the original and young model :p. Actually she is way over the age of when a real life t-Rex should of passed from old age by now
Josh Voelkner sorry but no, take another look at animatronics from original 3 movies, they are leagues ahead of what's seen here. Neil Scanlan's work is ok but nowhere near the level of quality Stan Winston Studio did in their prime. We see a Trike in full daylight in the firsr movie and it looks fine. The fact that they're adding cg on top of JW animatronics to make them look better when the first 3 movies didn't need it also shows up their quality.
When I first watched the trailer, I noticed a couple of the practical dinosaurs and got so excited. Yes, there are limitations, but any interactions with the actors are going to feel so much more organic!
Here's a message to the people who decided to dislike the video: if you can't be pleased with the practical effects in this movie, because they are being done by a different team, just leave. Don't see the movie.
Mm yeah. It might not be it persay - but the dinosaurs having a disease really is showing that Bayona really did do his research on the Jurassic series going back to the books. Yknow though I am now thinking - what if hybrid dinosaurs naturally get sick, the Indoraptor was already made, and Blue was captured in order for Dr. Wu to use his techniques in genetic engineering to save the Indoraptors life like a blood transfusion? I think the beauty of making a motion picture. is the different types of Crews involved from CGI, to mold makers, sculptors, puppeteers, animatronics, Carpenters, welders, hydraulic specialist, it gives work to all these talented people! California is expensive!
Watched the movie already. It's 10000x BETTER than the previous movie solely because of the practical effects. I swear I was excited as hell and jumping in my seat bcs omg those are REAL dinosaurs with REAL textures and I can hear the audience being excited as well bcs it all felt so real. Man the acting improved so much with it as well. Jurassic World made me feel nothing. Fallen Kingdom is a comeback, and they really know what made the dinosaurs amazing in the first place.
I agree, but I'd rather see it in a different dinosaur movie, which isn't a Jurassic film. JP has scaly dinosaurs, let another movie have feathered dinosaurs.
Neil Kaskoun Jurassic Park 3 had raptors with some plumes on their heads. Yes, Rexy is too iconic to change now, but other dinosaurs could introduce changes like that. I think they opted against feathers for the new Dino hybrids to make them scarier.
I initially shrugged off this movie as another CGI cop-out, but to find out that they made these practicals so real looking that it actually fooled me really makes me happy. It's amazing to see how much practical effects have evolved from the first Jurassic Park to now.
Animatronics in puppeteering for the dinosaurs really nice to be honest. The movements are quite real. Not saying it can't be done with CGI but just the aesthetic makes me kind of Happy.
So Jurassic and Star Wars think blindsiding fans with "practical effects" will hide the fact that maybe this movie isn't that good? Practical effects are nice and all, but I'd rather have a good story with memorable characters.
Did anyone say or show off that their AREN'T memorable characters now? This movie has Claire and Owen, two memorable characters that kids who watch the movies are going to remember. Sure, characters like Franklin and Rodreiga ( Sorry if I spelled it wrong ) aren't very memorable, but there are still some.
Matt D I’d argue that naming the raptor “Blue” was a marketing tactic to make kids remember it and want toys of it. Same thing with “Indominous” when you hear the name you think Jurassic world. Good story is a stretch though because there’s not much else they really could’ve done after the lost world.
Jeevaw I wouldn't go as far as to say Claire is a memorable character, she really is just the girl for Chris Pratt's Owen and Owen is only memorable since its Chris Pratt. But I never once go "oh look its owen", I just go "oh look Chris Pratt." I don't think the character is as memorable. The movies themselves will probably not fare well in let's say 10 years or so. I think we will look back on the Disney Star Wars films and Jurassic World films as mediocre. Especially in comparison to their original counterparts which still hold up today. They didnt attempt to outdo the originals and that's one of the reasons why it won't be remembered as fondly
I'm not saying Jurassic World is a bad movie because I don't think it is. It's fun for what it is and Chris Pratt really does help sell this film from being something truly bland.
You need a balance. Practical effects have limits too. Thanos in the Avengers movie gets that balance right because it uses CGI that is convincing for the character while letting Josh Brolins acting shine through.
I don’t. Look at Blade Runner 2049, Zodiac, Only God Forgives (even though I don’t necessarily love this movie), Guardians of the Galaxy, Mad Max Fury Road, The Force Awakens and War for the Planet of the Apes. All used CGI (even when you didn’t even notice) to heighten an experience. The best effects are the ones you don’t realize. I love CGI. I hate BAD CGI though. You need to learn the difference.
Practical effects with cgi to manipulate little details such as eye and nostril movements, etc is the best combination. The main movements would be practical with cgi on top of it to make it even better
+Isaiah Narisma I'm all up for practical effects I love them more than anything. all I'm saying is that they're going to use the animatronics images then CGI over them because the animatronics don't look "real enough" that's what they did to the thing sequel and they're going to keep doing it. universal will never learn
Kyle Roman what you mean the first Jurassic World they didn’t have that many animatronics there only like 3-4 scenes with animatronics in this one they’re using way more animatronics
we need more practical effects in movies! not only for believability from actors( hell, look at Aliens & The Thing!) but for fantastic film making! Over reliance on CG can make and break a film, so seeing this is a real treasure!
I watched this Movie. It released in India on June 7. It's a Fantastic Movie. Everyone Should watch it. This movie is of how Owen and 4 other people save the Dinosaurs from Poaching. And the Indorapter was the best way to Scare Us. Also this Contains that how Owen saves the little girl from Indorapter.
MarpyPlarpy I've seen it. What's in seeing a movie. You can go through the channel Universal Pictures India there you can see the releasing date is 7th June in India.

The Jurassic Park/world movies are my favorites! It's actually pretty cool to watch how the tech advanced in each movie 🎥

Eh I think the first JP’s cg hasn’t aged that well and are kinda obvious with more hi def releases coming out

Jurassic Park should always be done this way. Just like the first film(even though tech wasn't advance).

The movie was terrible
@Kaiser Isaiah Foo Can you?
@Mike overreacting a bit there.
Here's how I see it:
Use practical effects for close-ups and medium shots. Use CGI for long/wide shots.
Yeah true because up-close CGI wouldn't look that realistic
D-RayTheGreat that's what make the raptors in jurrasic world look fake to me. When they touch raptors head that's tied in the holes.
I saw this movie 4 days ago. I believe that's exactly what they've been doing!
Exactly.
That's what they did in the first JP.
The best kind of effects.
The effect that can make a dinosaur jump run and fight

Hearing the Indoraptor now, this hybrid is scary. That roar actually scared me really bad and not in a jump scare type of way it sticked to me.
ikr
Chief Little Rex can you tell me what's indoraptor made of besides raptor?
Sexy Savage indominus, majungasaurus, T. rex, Dolphin, cuttlefish, gigantosaurus, rugops, carnotaurus, and maybe some sort of ankylosaur

Absolutely yes! Practical effects and Jurassic Park goes hand in hand and this looks amazing
The Indoraptor looks phenomenal
On youtube you sould see the game
Jurassic World: Evolution
And the indoraptor with the purple skin. Its sickkk
SlayerNarwhal I’ve seen it already, prefer it with the yellow stripe tbh
The love and passion there giving out, definitely supporting it, it looks good!
Now this is true talent, being able to create these beautiful dinosaurs, and make them believable, with the use of very little cgi
Imagine thinking creating digital effects doesn't require talent.
inb4 "the computer does everything" which is untrue
Despite the obvious inaccuracies, this is great!
Really really hope they won't ditch the practical effects in last minute like creators do with other movies....
Way too expensive to ditch
They did. :(
That's absolutely amazing. I want one.
The amount of spoilers in these videos are insane. I came here wanting to know about the animatronics, don't give away more plot.
We have already known this formation though.
bigpimpdaddy69 but that's the thing. The trailers gave so much of the story away that the first trailer looked like it was for an entirely different movie.
The indo being sick could be something big.
There are no spoilers...
Blue being alive and captured by the team is something big, Rexie being caught and being interacted with by the team is something big.......

Happy for practical effects but these ones look inferior to Stan Winston's creations from the original 3 movies
I was just thinking the exact same thing. The T-Rex looks slightly off to the original one.
It's also the lighting. The rain certainly helped sell the original T. Rex at the paddock. But I partly agree.
+Augie Rivera Well I mean Rexy is super old so it would be weird if it would be the original and young model :p. Actually she is way over the age of when a real life t-Rex should of passed from old age by now
ketchupkatsup Yeah, it doesn’t help that it seems they’re designed to match the CGI, as opposed to the CGI being designed to match them.

Some form of illness... THE DX DISEASE FROM THE LOST WORLD NOVEL!!!?
I highly doubt it as the indoraptor will have been made off the island... unless blue infects it in the bedroom battle of course

Lost world novel?!

Guy in the cage with the Indoraptor... most likely the rest of this scene will be his death in CGI or off screen... eek!
of course it will be CGI or Off screen .. DO YOU WANT HIM TO GET BITTEN BY AN ANIMATRONIC???
Of course not, LOL, I was just commenting that it's likely this character's last moment. I really am appreciating a great blend of practical/CGI!
I think the beauty of making a motion picture. is the different types of Crews involved from CGI, to mold makers, sculptors, puppeteers, animatronics, Carpenters, welders, hydraulic specialist, it gives work to all these talented people! California is expensive!
Practical effects are better. CG was used too much in the previous film.
Omg I love these models soo much!! How lucky to be able to touch, interact and even ride them!
Someone get this to Gaming Beaver ASAP
Watched the movie already. It's 10000x BETTER than the previous movie solely because of the practical effects. I swear I was excited as hell and jumping in my seat bcs omg those are REAL dinosaurs with REAL textures and I can hear the audience being excited as well bcs it all felt so real. Man the acting improved so much with it as well. Jurassic World made me feel nothing. Fallen Kingdom is a comeback, and they really know what made the dinosaurs amazing in the first place.
are they still putting cgi over the puppets? that didn't work in jurassic world with that dying longneck dinosaur
Saw the movie Saturday, literally thought it was all CGI! This is awesome, well done!
The practical effects are not as good as the original's. Stan Winston Studios did it best.
Yes! Stan Winston Studios were the best practical effects team to ever exist. Too bad they disbanded and SWS no longer exists
+VJLove BEAUTY wait the stan winston school is gone.
True, and LegacyFX was formed after his death.
What? www.stanwinstonschool.com/
You are right. 👍
Those creatures look stunning I can’t wait to see it now.
Am I the only person who wants to see a t rex whit feathers😂
Yes.
Well, unfortunately Rex has been confirmed to not be feathered, so.... yeh.
Neil Kaskoun ah fair enough but it would be cool to see some sort of dinosaur whit feathers or is that debunked to.
I love it that they're using practical effects again! Looks amazing
Why is gamora?
I hate people who cant embrace characters from one movie can be another in a different.
Man, it must have been rough for practical effects people for the past decade or so. Its good that it has been making a come back.
How much cost a T-Rex animatronik ?
I would buy it :D
Andres Weinstein jaXD
Andres Weinstein danke garnicht aufgefallen
abficken
magnum dong Danke auch für dein Kommentar
Christian oS lol don't understand what are you talking about in the awnsers i'm Lithuaniain
I initially shrugged off this movie as another CGI cop-out, but to find out that they made these practicals so real looking that it actually fooled me really makes me happy. It's amazing to see how much practical effects have evolved from the first Jurassic Park to now.
I have a horrible feeling that the studio are going to paint CGI over the animitronics. What a waste of talent!
They'll definitely add CGI enhancements, but they won't completely cover them. Hopefully.
Kurt Tomlinson | Compositions did not, its out now
Animatronics in puppeteering for the dinosaurs really nice to be honest. The movements are quite real. Not saying it can't be done with CGI but just the aesthetic makes me kind of Happy.
I feel like I’ve already watched the movie lol
So you thinl
omg I didn't know they were using practical effects, now I'm even more pumped to see this!
👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Amazing job on using practical cgi can work in some stuff that’s not possible but the dinosaurs look amazing :D
Jeevaw Agree. And it's Rodriguez btw
Bravo crew, BRAVO!!!!!!! Thank you thank you can’t wait for it! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I hate cgi! Practical animation all the way!
Steve Ozone I really hope you understand CGI is constantly used without you realizing.
Your avatar is a CGI. Better replace that picture now.
Stop giving CGI a bad reputation, it is great!
Loved the movie! and to see the animatronic dinos was amazing!
they're just gonna put cgi over it what's the point?
If they put full-on CGI, it won't look as realistic.
It's alot better and clever this way. Dinosaurs basically come to life with this.
Ive seen it twice! Awesome effects!
I am Early!! Can i get a pin or Heart??
IGN has almost 10 million subs, why would you be the one to get a pin or a heart. They have never interacted with a subscriber.
I’d rather get tacos, but to each their own
Sorry guys... I’m just yanoo. Trying to reach out to them... cuz i am bruhh... nevermind.
Jairus DI30 yeah I understand. Everybody wants to be noticed. But it often only works with smaller youtubers. Sorry
Thank you I am so excited now they have brought back the animatronics to Jurassic Park!!! Super excited to see the movie now!!!
Good on the director! Good move. Not 100% CGI. Can't wait to watch it.
we need more practical effects in movies! not only for believability from actors( hell, look at Aliens & The Thing!) but for fantastic film making! Over reliance on CG can make and break a film, so seeing this is a real treasure!
amazing amazing amazing! such pure art done!
I can't wait to see this movie!
