I had to approve a lot of “cheesehead” comments. Apparently UA-cam thought they were personal attacks…
"Cheesehead" is the latest trigger word
@@David.S. Why shit on traumatized people rather than aim your ire at the executives who destroy every useful feature and any hope of consistency on UA-cam as they unleash yet another overzealous bot to complicate the livelihoods of the people whose labor secures those executives' positions in the permanent upper class? Then again, we could just drop the politics and thank Lyle for recording, editing, and releasing this video.
@@Robstafarian *facepalm*
That sounds pretty darn glorious already.
Lyle, I had a horrible, sub-clinical amp tech in the Northern Detroit burbs. When I lived in Kzoo, I took my Paul to Pete Moreno who worked downtown at Gibson. Pete was a nice guy. You and Brad are “Pete’s” in my book.
Sláinte!
Sounds like you’re saying we’re re-Petes…
Really glad to see those speakers were still functional and sounding good!
cheesehead!
Hey Lyle!
Since I started a comment, I might as well do it right.
I rarely comment on yt and I never did it on your videos and I've been watching them for the past 3 years so I just wanted to drop a huge THANK YOU for all the invaluable info you've shared in this video and across your channel. Your expertise has been a guiding light for me in my journey with amps.
Funny story: I initially dreamed of becoming an amp tech, but life had other plans, and I happily settled into being a passionate hobbyist. Your videos make my tinkering sessions even more enjoyable. Keep those gems coming!
If I weren't in Brazil, I'd entrust my amps to you without hesitation. Keep up the fantastic work!
Obrigado!
Sparkles!
A lot that old electronic stuff had nasty surprises inside of an open back, just waiting for someone to give it a reach around. Some of the AC DC radios with metal cabs & chassis were famous for having even odds that those metal parts that were easily touchable for common use were live with 120 or 240 volts to ground. It was like sticking a fork in a toaster while touching the kitchen faucet.
Who doesn't love an old Cheesehead
You really do amazing work! You keep things in amps extremely tidy which is rare!
Thanks! Tidiness is a side benefit of short signal paths, correct lead dress, and thinking about strain relief.
so enjoy your calm and wisdom. i am a keyboard player and stick to HIFI , but i enjoy learning what guitar players do as i get to work with them. between you and Uncle Doug i learn much.
Man your work inside the amp is immaculate! It looks beautiful. And the amp sounds really good.
I kinda laughed when you were talking about using the white boxes to hold up the chassis... you should see some of the janky improvised chassis supports I've made... its kind of embarrassing. 😵💫
Chees head, love it.
The response 👌
THAT AMP IS MAGICAL
No idea what a ‘cheesehead’ is but there you have it Lyle.
Anybody got a quarter? No quarter, Cheesehead. 😅😂. Great work Lyle and lovely sounding amp!!
Mahalo Lyle! Sounds great
Lyle, your videos are second to none these days 👍
Thanks David. I almost know what I’m doing with the camera and lights now. Getting there at least.
Digging it Lyle. Keep it up brother.
Cheesehead!
Thanks for all the hard work and valuable information, Lyle.
The Wisconsin contingent among your viewers no doubt perked up when they heard you say Cheesehead.
Well I'm jealous thats an amazing amp!
Great sound!
Nice work Sir
😀🧀🤯Gotta watch out for the cheesers!
I've always wanted one of those amps. I'm just glad it's not called a " cheese head " amp.
Oh, man that sounds sooo good already. Cheese head.
This Cheesehead sounds like butter. Same parts actually.
WOW...!!!😃👍👍
Great dynamics and tones including natural OD😎👍👍
I'm a Cheesehead from Milwaukee 😉👍
Prefer your speaker cabinet 🤣👍👍
BRAVO
Cool old Celestions. I've never seen that type in person.
Cool amp
Alnico celestions? Sounds wonderfull!
Those screws must be made in Wisconsin.
Cheesehead! I watched till the end, Lyle. As I always do 🫠
Could just stain the white boxes to tan for the color saturation problem . Since it works for your needs . Cheesehead WOW.
Cheesehead, fantastic job. Amps sounds great. How do I contact you to get my amps worked on 😎😎😎
Cheeseheadtastic ! 😊
Tone benefits to removing tube shields? Now I have officially heard everything
Nice video containing maintenance details of a cheesehead variety.
Sad Marshall won’t make the effort to properly honor these icons with a proper reissue.
I grew up in Wisconsin and represent your cheese head comment😎
You’re a true artist. And one other thing; cheesehead.
Jeez, what a cool / cheesy amp!
Great work, cheesehead
Yoga blocks for amp support.
Cheese head
Excellent detailed work that I appreciate.
Rumour has it, Henry Phillips was a cheese hater.
Cheese head. Fantastic!
Testa formaggi!
Recognize the 'copyright friendly' riffage (No Quarter)
Would you drop the cathode bias on old Valco amps that use those RCA 6973’s? Similar spec tube but with there own character….
Pretty conservative on the original cathode bias and given their rarity and cost these days…maybe a bad idea. They do rip!
You said cheesehead…🤣
Cheesehead? Parts made in WI?
Hunky Dory. She got hunky huh?
Since I absolutely loathe ch**s*, I sure won't use the word when attached to -h**d.
How are you supposed to service EZ81 rectifier tube amplifiers on a Variac? Should I consider one of those silicon diode rectifier plugins if I come across an amplifier with an EZ81? And only plug the tube back in when all repairs are finished?
If you are approaching full voltage it won’t be an issue. In a bring up from zero scenario I’d remove the EZ81 and alligator clip in two 1N4007s.
I’m assuming it’s an issue with the EZ81 not being fully heated when current is asked of it. In a US scenario I’d think anything above 90VAC mains is safe.
@@PsionicAudio okay, I understand. I like to bring amplifiers from a dead cold whenever I swap out parts to make sure I didn’t introduce a dead short. I have current limiter dim bulb on my bench that has saved me on numerous occasions so far. I know I can get all dyslexic sometimes and make stupid mistakes. Bringing up from a dead cold each time saves my butt big time!
What's a cheesehead screw?
Cheese head or not, those slot head screws are always a pain in the behind.
Cheese head, have to say that I seem to prefer the sound of old amps to new ones, especially when they have the original speakers in place.
Beginning to think there is more magic in the speakers than the amps
Well the first part of the video was the 57 on my five year old ET65. Gotta say there was nothing wrong with that sound at all. The last bits were the original speakers heard through an off-axis sE8. I should have moved that mic to aim it at the speakers. So you still haven’t really heard the original speakers yet.
#CheeseHead!!!
Cheesehead! I know folks in Wisconsin who are cheeseheads themselves.
Im portuguese, and when Lyle said 'cable gland' and I look to see what that was I was 'amazed'. gland sounds like glande in portuguese and that translates to.....just google it. I now its a bit childish but i couldnt held myself😂😂
Obrigado for that…
@@PsionicAudio 😁 de nada...I know it was a priceless piece of tech info input....😎
Cheese head -- two words, no hyphen; at least according to Wikipedia.
Sounds great Cheese Head or not
YOU'RE the cheese head, Lyle! Just kidding. What's that big brown rectangular component between those two pots? Is that just a massive silver mica cap?
Yeah.
You are no Cheesehead my friend.
Cheese head chuckles
Cheeeeeeeeeesehead
Head cheese
I don't get the cheese head reference. Aren't they Green Bay Packer's football fans?
CHEESEHEAD !!!!!!!
Man that amp sounds fantastic! Cheesehead is kinda gross if you think about it-….what head has cheese on it? Eww
Well, headcheese for one…
Cheese head screws.
Cheese head lol!
Ok, cheesehead screw.
