When a man and a woman are in the beginning stage of being in love they want to learn everything they can about the other person. They talk on the phone for hours. When they are away from the other person their thoughts keep pulling them back to the one they love. They rearrange their schedule to take advantage of opportunities to be with that other person, in person. The activities they do together aren’t the reason for carving out time to be together. The goal is being together. They want to see the other person’s eyes and be able to reach out and touch their hand.
Consider the opposite. I’m thinking of couples who divorce because one or the other of them are away from their spouse and possibly their children, due to serving in the military.
Jesus loved His relationship with His Dad so much that He wanted us to enjoy the same. So He was willing to be temporarily separated from Him in order to do what was necessary for us to have what He has.
How is it possible that Almighty GOD not only allows us to draw near to Him, He longs for it to be the greatest longing in our hearts? Nothing comes close to time spent alone in His presence! Psalm 16:11 says that in His presence is fullness of joy! In Luke 10 Martha wanted her sister Mary to leave Jesus and come into the kitchen to help her prepare food for guests who would be arriving soon. Her focus couldn’t have been any more wrong! God Himself, in flesh and blood form, was a few feet away from her and she was concerned about hosting humans! Jesus didn’t hesitate in defending Mary. He corrected Martha and revealed something to her. It was so important that Holy Spirit inspired doctor Luke to write about it for our benefit. Mary loved Jesus so much she took advantage of getting to have alone time with Him, in the privacy of her home, to gaze into His eyes. They were filled with love for her! I don’t think she was wasting time talking, even though I’m positive that was part of their relationship. She wanted to listen to Him tell her whatever He wanted to impart. Jesus said she, not Martha, had chosen the better option. He underscored it by informing Martha that, “it wouldn’t be taken away from her!”
God tells us that if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us! James 4:8 A simple bible study I enjoy doing is meditating on all of the verses that use the word ‘whole-heart.’ And seeing what is possible when we do that. Jeremiah 29:12-14a “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord,”
Something I’m extremely grateful for is that after I was born again, I can connect with Holy Spirit at any time. I don’t have to have several hours. I can be running an errand & hear Him speak to me (not audibly) or I can initiate a conversation.
It’s easy to understand why demons entice us with every distraction under the sun in an effort to prevent us from choosing to spend time in His presence. They know we are transform there! We also make unwise decisions about how to spend the time we have been given, all on our own.
If someone you view as important sent you an invitation to visit them, you would probably be shocked, excited, and make arrangements to take them up on the offer. The bible is full to over flowing with invitations from God to everyone of us.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
I absolutely love a story Patricia King shares about a conversation she had with Oral Roberts. She asked him how he balanced all of the responsibilities he had with his different ministries. He explained that he began every day isolated from all of the cares of this world and spent time in God’s presence. Every family member and staff person knew that he wasn’t to be interrupted for any reason. If there was an emergency, someone else could handle it. He valued the blessing that God offers all of us, so much that he made it a priority. He attributed his ability to know how to manage everything he felt called to do, to impartations that came in those times in God’s presence.
Bless you, for bringing this to our attention today. We should all have an longing to know our loving Creator that is passionate, like the human couples who can’t wait to be together. God wants us to desire time with Him out of love, not a sense of duty. No parent wants their adult children to visit them because the son or daughter feels obligated to! They want it to be based on love. May we have an appetite that is only satisfied when we are alone with God. People who are making time in His presence a priority, have the life and love of God in them and release it to those they come in contact with on a daily bases. You are one of those people! God bless you Timothy!
