I agree with Crouchy. I don’t think he is saying there is no such thing as gluten intolerance. I think Chris has missed his point and now Crouchy is just going with it. But I agree. You shouldn’t need to be asked by the waiter/waitress. If it is a problem for you, then it’s up to you to mention it. 👍🏻
The problem with the gluten thing has two sides: On one side you have people with celiac disease who have guts that get destroyed over time if they eat gluten, and who have the shits for hours if they eat it = Real issue, real desease. On the other side you have the people who made it into a fad diet for no reason. Those are the anoying people you are angry with, Peter! They just choose to not eat gluten because they think it will make them more healthy (it doesn't).
Are you seriously comparing the CHOICE of being vegetarian to being diagnosed with a serious autoimmune disease and not being medically able to eat gluten for LIFE? And if you do you are essentially killing yourself slowly. Would you lump vegetarians with those who suffer from nut allergies? Eating nuts may kill the person who is allergic within 10 minutes, but continuing to eat gluten if you have coeliac disease will kill you in 10 years.
Lads, most people (including me) that are gluten free are celiac, which means eating any gluten gives you the trots, big time! It's gutting because gluten free stuff (bread especially) is terrible!!
@@soundsasleep01 Or you just do what I do and don't order anything with gluten in it. Steak, chips and a double vodka and tonic hasn't got any in it. Also I never said restaurants should ask, the responsibility is on you to not order pasta or something that's going to make you ill.
My nephew is celiac and I feel for him (and you also) But I disagree with the words "most people who are Gluten free" As someone who works in restaurants and catering , in my estimation, 80% of the people who want gluten free are not celiac. Most are people that associate a little stomach upset with a near fatality! I'm with Pete on this ,
@@soundsasleep01 but it usually is, though? People with celiac desease are usually very good at keeping away from gluten, and if they can just order something they know id gluten free they probably will. If it's not obvious they might ask wether a part of the meal has gluten in it. And where does it stop? I think most people manage to see the difference between an illness and a preference. Besides, restaurants DO tell you about other stuff already. Many menues have an icon of a flame or a chilli next to options that are spicy, they have letter codes for different allergenes and so on. Furthermore, one of the upsides of asking if there are allergies sometimes is that the staff know more about the food, so they might be able to advice against an option because it might cause you allergies. But main point: most people with allergies will happily take care of themselves at a restaurant.
If the waiter asks about allergies, start rambling off a list of non-food related things, "ooh I have a but of hay fever right now, bee stings put me into shock, latex gives me a rash and Penicillin....well you don't even want to know what that does to me."
Chris - 'i'm going with my head on this one' - Reads out CHE-MNC are odds on for both teams to score, then selects a to-nil score prediction. Best of luck though as great entertainment....
Chris, you're a weasel... 🤣 I genuinely dislike Notorious and Crouchy letting you back in. You've made a total arse of it so far by not thinking logically, and you should take your punishment with grace should it come to that.
An idea for Chris to get extra points: have him guess how many total red cards will be given out throughout the league over the weekend. If he’s right he gets on extra point.
I agree with Pete on this. I grew up in the 60s and there were no such things as foodcintolerance or allergies. You had two choices, eat what was put in front of you or starve and it never did us any harm! Now, everywhere you go in public, such as cafes, restauránts, aeroplanes etc you can guarantee there will be some faddy whiner making a fuss. If they don't want to eat the same as they should stay at home instead of boring the arse off the rest of the customers! Plus, how much unused food must get thrown away because no one came and asked for gluten free.
Hopefully you or one of your family members don't get diagnosed with a serious autoimmune disease in your lifetime. Agreed there are people who eat gluten free as a fad, in fact this angers me to my core as there are those of us who have to MEDICALLY eat a gluten free diet for life with no exceptions. And if we do not adhere to this, we will end up slowly killing ourselves. Please try not to be so incredible ignorant.
Who would have thought 4-4 as a Brentford fan you have to say Chelsea was robbed because that pen that city got shouldn't have counted as I felt Reece James was fouled before the foul on Man City
My missus is sick when she eats gluten containing foods. I won't be offended Crouchy, I'll let it go though, you boys are legends. Also had a dream I met you boys in the pub and it was epic 🤣
Who would have thought of all the things that have been on this show, the thing that I couldn’t agree more on is Crouchy being annoyed by people asking if you’ve got allergies. Simple. If they forget to say they haven’t got an allergy - Darwin!
Having worked as a waiter, its the waiters job to ask about allergies, otherwise the customer gets sick....the waiter gets the blame, likely gets sacked, and the restaurant gets sued.....use your head Crouchy, its just not worth it as the waiter to not ask....as for having a problem with it being broadcast across the table....are you going for a meal with a complete stranger or something? The people you are with should really know what you can and cant eat XD its not embarrassing to have an allergy, and yes it can be very dangerous.....unless you enjoy being violently ill allergies should be taken seriously.....especially for a waiter, no need to blame the waiter for doing a good job, just answer the question and move on...its not a big deal...your just making it an issue in your own head XD
I'm sick of reading comments like this. Hopefully you don't have to deal with a serious autoimmune condition in your life time. If I could eat gluten without killing myself I would. Wanker.
Haha crouchy I am type 1 diabetic John Clancy knows he was in my year and if I was celiac then I can’t have gluten but I’m not so I agree with you crouchy it’s pointless 🤣
From a celiac, i agree with Crouchy to a degree with why do they need to ask if no one has mentioned it. I am an adult and do it myself and do my homework before i go to a new restaurant to see what i can have and i mention it when i order my food. Unfortunately you have snowflakes in society that cant take accountability for themselves and look after themselves, this leads to restaurants being sued for this kind of stuff (dont touch the hot surface "i think i will touch this because i am a tool" thats hot i think i will take you to court) that kind of person. You know the Initialed society spoilers😂. To educate on this briefly, there are 2 sides to it, a person who is intolerant, who is effected by discomfort i,e trots and sore stomach but has no lasting long term effects and Celiacs. Celiac disease is an auto immune disorder so not an allergy so to speak, on consuming gluten the body attacks itself and can strip the bowel of all the good stuff, it also leads to bowel cancer if you continue to injest it, and there are also studies that prove it can lead to sever mental health disorders if your diet isn’t adjusted. Myself i know when i have injested gluten by accident as i have sever stomach pain and the lovely effects of this but also my mentality shifts to being erratic and having mood swings. Hope this helps and keep up the good work, love this podcast.

Fully agree with crouchy on the gluten bs...it's pretentious nonsense. They don't ask if anyone is lactose intolerant or if they have heyfever if there's plants about 😂
Have you heard of coeliac disease? It's a serious autoimmune disease whereby eating gluten means you are slowly killing yourself from the inside. Please don't call it nonsense, I think the pretentious one is yourself. Wholly ignorant. I hope you don't have to deal with a serious autoimmune condition yourself

And, if you're celiac, which most gluten free people are, gluten doesn't only give you the runs, but it actually damage your intestines!
