  • We began our day at the Waterfront in Cape Town where the vibrant energy set the tone for our journey. Boarding the red Sightseeing Bus, we were greeted with excitement as we set off to explore the city's historic landmarks and picturesque streets. The bus provided a unique vantage point, allowing us to marvel at the architectural splendour of the old buildings and the overall charm of Cape Town. Transitioning to the tranquil waters of the harbour, our boat cruise offered a serene interlude, affording us leisurely views of the bustling maritime activity and playful seals basking in the sun. As the day waned, we ascended Signal Hill aboard the Sunset Bus, where we were treated to a breathtaking panorama of Cape Town. Sharing a delightful picnic amidst atop this natural spectacle, we concluded our adventure with hearts full of gratitude for this magical experience. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #sightseeingbus #capetown

If you are a South African, as I am, you cannot but feel so proud to be one when you experience Cape Town in it's majesty as you did today! This is what one would refer to as "a world-class African city". A true jewel. Impeccably presented and spotlessly clean. Your video today reminded me of a tourist day trip in and around Monaco 😏. Thank you for sharing your awesome video once again.

Thank you for these videos! Our family will be visiting SA in June and your videos have been so helpful. I knew we would do the Hop On Hop Off bus, but I didn't quite understand the harbor and canal cruises. Watching you, I get it now!

I'm a South African who has never been to Cape Town! But I really want to see the Mother City as soon as possible. It looks stunning in your videos, like a world class city with so much history and culture. And it looks safe too (although I've heard things....).

At last Curtis had a break from driving. So good to see that Sonia was able to climb those stairs on the bus. A great way to see the sights of Cape Town. Loved the boat cruise. Pulling in to Kirstenbosch gardens reminded me of Curtis's guided tour he did there for us. I was so envious watching Curtis drinking that nice Windhoek Lager. We cannot get them here in Invercargill. What a good idea having your snacks and a bubbly on Signal Hill. Did you carry your chilly bin on the bus all day ? Do they still fire the cannon at midday on Signal Hill ? Can't help but notice that Curtis drove through a red light at the end of the video. 😂

We parked in the Portswood parking garage, directly opposite the Bus Ticket Office, so our coolerbox was in the cool car all day and I collected it just before we boarded. 😁🍾🥂 We heard on the audio tour that the Noon Gun is still fired Monday to Saturday. 💣

Howzit Curtis and Sonia this was a lekker episode, I really enjoyed it, I also used to work in the ABSA building in town. Cape Town truly is a beautiful city and I am glad that you were able to share the beautiful vistas from Signal Hill with our visitor from Perth. To all the tourists visiting our beautiful city, you're all special visitors who we welcome with joy and wish you all the best as you discover our beautiful land. South Africa is truly a beautiful country and your channel is a great ambassador for our country and its people. An idea re your merch, when you launch, is to have a special "howt bay" t-shirt in honor of Sonia's Dad.

Hi you two! Thank you for your time and effort. I've spent much time in CT may years ago (mainly working!) but your tour presented the beauty of this historical city in such a fresh and spectacular way, I wish I could move there tomorrow! The harbour boat tour was something very special. So was the previous episode on Bo Kaap (my comment on that was cut off by sudden higher level load shedding, directly after the SONA to confirm the president's announcement that the power crisis will be ending soon). The seal snoozing in the tire was very funny. Your channel is becoming more special by the day (even though I have only fond memories of the gravel road, blue skies, old stations and churches days). I am ready for the next surprise!
    Keep safe!

You need to give Weißbier ("wheat beer") another try. Forget that it's a "beer", and treat it as its own kind of drink - a bit sweet with a slight tang or something - and no hops. You can buy those in litre bottles in Germany in most supermarkets or at a "Trinkhalle" for much less than you'd imagine. (If you buy an imported one from a South African bottle store, you might have to first find out if you can pay in blood.)
Hmm ... and one you should maybe see if you can train yourself to appreciate (starting by ignoring the word "beer" in its name) is sorghum beer - if they even still sell that? I can''t remember when I last saw African sorghum beer on sale anywhere. Once you acclimatize to it (like a kid who initially can't stand bitter hops acclimatizes to a bitter beer) it's also a nice drink/ meal - since it has bits of grain in it, so it's both. Weißbier is generally higher alcohol beer, where sorghum beer is something like 2%, so low alcohol.
Another hmm ... If commercial sorghum beer has had its day, it might be something for some entrepeneur to have a go at reviving - e.g. for the tourist trade. (The strainers used to remove the bigger bits are quite ornamental, so you could sell a tourist something like a "sorghum small beer" / light ale and a woven strainer all at the same time, if you can find the last person in Africa who still knows how to make strainers.
Last time I was in Malawi they still had beer halls there, so if the art and custom of sorghum beer has died out down here, there's some chance it still lives on somewhere else.
Sell it together with Egyptian beer, maybe? (Might be quite similar to ancient world beers.)
I seem to have gotten distracted there. :D The red bus looks like a fantastic deal for anyone wanting to orient to Cape Town, and see some incredible sights - especially if taking the sunset option.

I want to enjoy what I drink from the first sip (or gulp!) and not have to train my palate and throat to enjoy it. 🍺 I'm not really a hugely experimental guy when it comes to food and drink. I've had sorghum beer on occasion and have enjoyed it, but not enough to flog it and its strainers to customers. 😁 I'm sure it's still commercially available though, but I'm speaking under correction about that.

Lekker!

Hi Sonia and Curtis, this message is a bit late but I dive in and out of your excellent series as time and mood permits, and pick the episodes that most interest me. My comment on this is that it touched my heart because i lived in Cape Town for twelve years in the sixties, when I 'wasted' three year at UCT and spent many a passionate hour at Rhodes Mem! Is the Statue of Cecil still there? Anyway, Cape Town looks fabulous as it always does on a sunny day, not so much in winter and when the south easter howls through the streets. Thank you for your work. Will you be doing something in Windhoek, my home town?

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  12 днів тому +1

I seem to remember that one of the Cecil Johan Rhodes statues was removed, but I'm not entirely sure which one and we haven't visited the Rhodes Memorial up close in almost 30 years. We'd eventually like to explore Namibia too, but that'll only happen when we've seen all the places we can and wish to in our own beautiful country. 🚙🇿🇦

We're explorers by nature and water activities aren't really our vibe. Although I know there are countless other activities and things to do, eat and drink on board these ships, I'm not sure how I feel about being stuck on one for several days. And on a longer one, getting on and off for excursions will be super tiring for Sonia. We may try it out in the future though, we'll see. 😁🛳️
